Tokyo Tower is dark...
According to my user info page, I've received 49,951 comments. I want to celebrate reaching 50,000!!!!

The 49th comment received ON THIS POST will receive a postcard in the mail from me! (I'm holding back replying until the counter reaches past 49.. I will reply after that! So feel free to strike up conversations!) What will be on it? You'll just have to wait and seeeeeee~~! ^o^/ (assuming that you will consent to give me your mailing address! ^^)

In other news, Tokyo Tower is dark these days.. but don't worry! It's only because the city is trying to save energy. The 6 nuclear reactors in Fukushima that are no longer working (no danger to us, though!) supplied a lot of eastern Japan's power, and without them there is the possibility of shortages and blackouts. (Though to be honest, I think that if only all of the pachinko parlors would shut down voluntarily, there would be no concern.)

But anyways.. thanks Tokyo Tower! It was eerie to pass through Roppongi and not see it all lit-up though.

Well!!! I kinda sorta have some big news! But I can't say anything yet!!! It might be a while, but I will say things when I can. Sorry for the vagueness! *^-^* Let's just say that as I vowed to myself, things this year are slowly, but steadily changing *^^* Things that I can tell you about though, are: I am sloooooowly toning up my body. I'm becomign more flexible, too. At times it is frustrating and I do have setbacks, but I am progressing! I'm very proud of myself! Although I probably won't say too much, since I am already a skinny girl (through a lot of hard work too..) and it seems to upset people. So I suppose I will curb the boasting as much as possible... ^^;;;;;;;;;

I am also slowly but steadily improving my japanese ability! I am not so good at languages, but becoming as fluent as a native speaker is my goal, so I refuse to give up! I'm sure that it will be a number of years, but I wouldn't complain if it came earlier than that... :) (I suppose this is a bit of a pipe dream ^o^;;)

I was planning to volunteer in Ishinomaki (a place very hard-hit by the tsunami), but I attended an information meeting and decided to reevaluate and look into going during the summer instead. There are a lot of reasons for this, including work and other factors. But in the meantime, I am going to a Tokyo-based volunteer information session on Sunday night, and so hopefully will be able to participate in Tokyo volunteer efforts soon! ^^

A little bit more meme...
Day 01: 10 things about you
Day 02: 10 things you love
Day 03: 10 things you hate
Day 04: 10 things you want to say to one person
Day 05: 10 wishes
Day 06: 10 items you can’t live without

Day 07: 10 important people

Day 08: 10 of your favorite songs
Day 09: 10 ways to win your heart
Day 10: Final 10 words.

Keeping it simple this time:
My S/O, all of my real friends, my family, my work colleagues, people who don't know me but still read my blog and cheer me on or care about me ^^, my role-models, Gene Roddenberry, the inventor of milk chocolate, everyone else, and aliens. ^^

So.. to fuel discussion and get those comments up, I have a few things to say:

Here is a funny picture of a perverted tree that I took today, here is a picture I took in the same area the day before, and here is a tiny doodle of myself that I drew the other day.

I am also wondering, does anyone have a kindle? I'm looking for opinions on your experience with it, both the good and bad! I'm considering getting one, just for novels. I just realized that the kindle is not a touch-screen....... well, I am definitely not getting one then. Oops! Didn't even occur to me.

I love how you've made a new life for yourself in a very foreign country and are perusing your dreams, hope everything works out with you and your artwork!

Thank you! ^-^
I really hope so too, lol.

Nothing could be so true. Love who you are and be happy! But also strive for who you want to be. :)

That tree made me giggle quite a bit lol

And I have friends with Kindles, and they said it's jsut not all its cracked up to be. General consensus is that most peopel i know with Kindles are getting rid of them in favor of the Barnes and Noble "Nook" (which is full color, backlit, wifi and all that nice stuff) cuz it's also close to the same price
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:00 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I am still on the fence, though I admit that I've been a bit busy to think about it the last few days, lol.

40+ comments in a row... here I go! (I like postcards!) ;)

I was going to say something on the Kindle, but you already solved that dilemma! Look into the nook, though - the "smaller library of choices" isn't much of an argument anymore.

You did it!!

Six reactors are out? Dang, thought it was only two or three (or maybe I was thinking only two or three plants). And I had to giggle at the idea of all the pachinko parlors shutting down, I'd imagine that those do take an awful lot of power.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:02 pm (UTC)
Don't take my word on which reactors are out or not, lol :D But I wonder if there is a way to get the japanese government on board with the pachinko parlor thing.. hmm...

It's sad in a way, but I like how Tokyo Tower is unlit. Just shows how the little things matter!

That little doodle of yourself is SO CUTE!! I love your style, especially the coloring +w+ Wuah~ I wish I could color that well!

And that tree made me giggle too. XD

*nods* You should do more of yourself with questionable headgear! ;)

I saw a report on CNN the other day how in the cities that were evacuated in the 20km radious around the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants the a/cs are still on and all the traffic and street lights are still on and working...why not turn off all of that? because uhm...that's a real waste of energy at times like these?

it's good to see people participating though...tokyo tower included and heh yeah the other day I saw a guy with a demonstration banner on one of the photos from shibuya holding a "TURN OFF PACHINKO PARLORS" sign... we have a big discussion about energy over here, too... many people turning very actively against nuclear power plants (ours aren't the youngest either...and we're not safe from earthquakes either) but then there are stupid arguments like "but wind energy will destroy our landscape" ~_~ really, I'd rather have a windmill in my face than the threat of getting cancer from radiation or having to move away forever... aah, politics...

and...WOAH UFO
*looks at picture*

lots of love and success in attaining your goals! I will be rooting for you!

P.S.: I miss you! :(

Wow - that's a lot of comments! Terrific :D

I've never seen Tokyo Tower except in pictures when it's all lit up - it's interesting and a little awe-inspiring to see it dark.

I'm so glad that you're happy about how you look, and that you're getting better at speaking Japanese *^^* I would love to be fluent in the language, but that may take some time :D

Also, I'm glad that you're considering volunteer work - it really shows how kind and caring you are :)

XD That funny picture made me laugh!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:12 pm (UTC)
It is a lot harder than I thought to learn a language. I sure was naive as a kid!!

I went to a volunteer meeting today. It was really interesting.. I hope some of the ideas work out!

I've often wondered why so many businesses leave their lights on overnight. It seems like a shocking waste of electricity to me. If it's a security thing, attach the light switch to a motion sensor for crying out loud!!

Our tulips haven't come up yet - it's still too cold!

I agree! Most potential customers don't even walk by to window-shop at that hour anyway!

Out of curiosity, what Tokyo-based volunteer efforts have you found? I live in that area and would like to get involved, but don't quite know where to start.

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:21 pm (UTC)
Really? That's great!!!

I have been looking for a while, but finally decided to try and get involved with Peace Boat's activities. I've been to a few of their meetings so far! Here is their site: http://www.peaceboat.org/english/index.php?page=view&nr=19&type=22&menu=62#volunteer

If you email them asking about information for volunteering in Tokyo, they should get back to you in a few days with some information on when their next meeting is and how to get involved ^^

Wow, Tokyo Tower dark... how odd.
I'm glad you're safe, but why did you draw an octopus on that sketch of yourself?
Hi-chan (火ちゃん): Jellyfish smilinghinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:22 pm (UTC)
Because I love octopi! :D It is a very little-known fact about me. I was planning on getting one for a pet for a while, but I decided to wait until I was settled in a permanent house before considering it again. ^^ (I also want some jellyfish!)

I briefly stopped by Shibuya the other day and it was sooo strange to see it not all lit up. Pretty eerie.

I laughed at the tree picture, because I'm a five-year-old deep down inside, and the doodle of you is super cute! .^__^
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:23 pm (UTC)
Ahaha, thank you! XD

Yeah, it is really weird, isn't it?!

-That tree is funny.
-That doodle is cute. I still continue to love your style.
-I stopped commenting on your entries at some point because you had hundreds of comments (when you were promoted by lj) and I figured my comment really wasn't saying anything new.

That picture of Tokyo tower just kills me though. Sigh.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:24 pm (UTC)
Aww! I still read every comment, whether they are saying anything new or not ^^
Jadehisuiai on April 22nd, 2011 12:04 am (UTC)
I know you've probably mentioned it before somewhere, and I should probably just search for it myself... but what do you do for staying in/getting into shape? ♥

And wow, Tokyo Tower looks odd without being lit up.
That tiny doodle of you is adorable ♥, and tehe at the UFO, the one on your Ameba blog is awesome too XD
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 24th, 2011 02:26 pm (UTC)
Aww, thanks! XD

Well, I think that it's more of a question of finding out what works for you. A few years ago, it was biking at night and strict dieting that did it. Then I switched to just eating healthier. But now I want to shape up, so I'm eating healthy and trying to restrict my calories, while doing the couch to 5k running program and stretching/yoga in the morning.

I am going to probably add biking at night though, because it's not really working well enough at the moment. I think I need to be a little bit stricter with myself.
