haha. The Mayo must haunt you wherever you go.

When I first saw the title of this one I thought you were going to talk about okonomiyaki for some reason. I'm obsessed. Even though I haven't been to Japan but as a Japanophile(kind of), I just HAD to try making it myself... though I didn't get to do an all out since my mom is strict vegetarian, no fish, squid or anything!

Hmm, maybe I can get a friend to help me film at an Okonomiyaki place sometime. That might be fun! ^^

^u^ I would love to see something like that, for sure!

Lol; Ordering pizza in Japan sounds fun. Most interesting food I had when I was there was Pizza Ramen.

But I guess here's an idea/question/something I want to know about Japan? How's the dating style like? In most dramas I watch I usually just see the students doing a huge date group (a bunch of single boys and girls bring their friends and they each interact with who they like) or something, and have you had a chance to do something like that yet?

Hmm... questions. Something about the legal issue you just mentioned in the end about filming outside. Or whether everything is "midget" sized? I'm 5'11 or 6' depending on who measures me ;) so I guess you would be able to tell me, if they make like kitchen tables/sinks and such stuff kinda low?
I'm planning/hoping to get an internship in tokyo this summer for 8 or so months as part of my education, so I'll definitely come back with more questions later.

I'm with this comment!
Please please please do one on the sizes of things. I want to participate for a year with JET or something similar and I want to know what it's like for a tall person (I too am ~6' tall)

35 bucks for a pizza! Wow. Is food in general that expensive? I remember you saying apples could be expensive.

Future ideas: are bathrooms in any way different from North America?
Could you do a Japanese beauty product segment? I guess filming in a drug store might be too difficult and might make the staff annoyed. But shopping in Japan is definitely something I'm interested in.
Perhaps film a trip on the train sometime?

Wow, youtube won't let me comment on your video so i'll post my reply here lol.

Hi Hi-chan! I love your videos, you are the only person I could watch that makes 9 minute youtube vids haha! I can't believe Japanese people like mayo on their pizza! And if they don't like it...they eat it anyways? D: Gross. I would totally try that lasagna pizza though...and I absolutely love broccoli on pizza. You should do a vlog about Japanese toilets. I happened to find one in Snottsdale and vlogged about it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELjJtAHj-4Y
*hug* miss you!

God, I wish Pizza hut here in the states had some of that type of pizza. X'D I love mayo myself, so it wouldn't be a problem with me~

Another Idea that you could do, and I thought would be really cool, is possibly do like a another weird food item that's only in japan~!

I'll happily third it.

It's weird, mayo really took off like crazy in the last decade or so in Japan, didn't used to be like that!!! Terrible news for me though, I don't like the stuff either, and people in the US even think I'm weird for it.

One of the grossest pictures I've seen ever was in an old issue of AERA magazine about the mayonnaise boom, and it was... a bloody mary, with a big ol' dollop of mayonnaise in it. EWWWWW. Just EWWWW.

A lot of those pizzas sound delicious! But so much for Pizza being a cheap food like it is in the west! Yeeeesh, the prices!

ewww Mayo on pizza. I don't think I will ever try that, Yoru got a cute voice. XDD

Also watch your first video as well. YAY RYOMA. I wish you the best in becoming a manga artist.

whenever i go to japan, i'm always flummoxed by gift-giving customs. specifically, i give japanese people gifts and they won't open them, or if the gift's not wrapped, they barely glance at what it is and then gently set it aside. OR i confuse THEM by receiving gifts enthusiastically and thanking repeatedly (but that's what i was taught to do!). can you talk about what kind of gifts you give and receive and what you do or others do?

Yo Jamie!

I was really happy when I found ur blog 1 week ago.
Since reading ur WTBAMangaka series I'm feeling so much more confident when drawing.
Its not like I'm bad at drawing but u gave me a different point of view in the whole move to japan and live ur dream thing, it seems so possible now :)

Btw I hate mayo too so I totally feel what ur sayin in ur vid, I was laughin so hard when u mentioned the curry xD
Here in vienna they somehow manage to hide the stuff in every sandwitch&burger I buy too...gross

What else can I say :-? Yeah I would love to hear something about the new manga laws and if it somehow affects u and ur surrounding. Heard jump fears to be pushed into the 18+ corner.

I really believe in ur dream and wish u best luck.
Greets from Vienna

and sorry 4 the bad english ;-)

Okay, usually, when we make pizza at home, we eat it with kewpie mayonnaise too BUT only with certain toppings. Why? Because kewpie is something of a phenomenon in this house. Everybody loves it with everything.

I'm going to back you up with curry and mayonnaise that's just what the heck no.

Also, I once saw a pizza with potatoes and mac and cheese on it. That looked gross. I was hoping to try different kinds of pizzas in Tokyo this spring when I go, but that's expennnnsive so I'm going to try one or two, definitely going to try the squid one o3o

I love your video fridays by the way :) I'm always excited to see them

Mayonnaise is evil. Period. Evil globs of malodorous, phlegmy, gelatinous mess.

I just wanted to write that I love reading your blog! I am from Australia and visited Tokyo for the first time in 2010 and I LOVED it!! I also noticed the crazy pizza they have there and your video was so funny to me :D
Maybe next time you could make a video about some Japanese customs, or maybe some things that you can only get in japan.. or even Hello Kitty or sanrio hehe
Anyway, I love your blog.. I wish I could live in tokyo too! Maybe one day.......
Bye :o)

In conjunction with your vending machine post, I thought it would be kind of funny to do a video tour of the vending machine. Pretty much a video of you walking to the vending machine and pointing out anything interesting along the way. Then a 360 view of the surrounding area of the vending machine. That way we all feel like we have been there too.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 15th, 2011 02:02 am (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion!

It's a great idea, but I don't want to reveal where I live (in case of stalkers), so the surroundings will have to remain a secret. ^.~

Lol I loved the Mayo rant :P
I've been told Japanese were rather conformist and don't exactly get the idea of change sometimes. I've gotten quite a few Japanese pen pals the past few months and I love talking to them about your articles. My friend Junko and I rofl'd at your impersonation of a cashier when you ask to change an order lol. I've been following your How to be a Mangaka articles and we love video Fridays. Keep it up we ♥ ya!
