Happy 6th Jappaniversary!! *^-^* (+meme cont.)

On September 15th, 2004, I left Seattle-Tacoma airport, and the next day I landed in Narita, Japan. My first time abroad (unless you count the one time my family walked across the Mexico border into Tijuana to see what it was like), and definitely my first real experience with a foreign culture!

I don't know what to say.. So many things have happened in the 6 years since then. I've went through homesickness, sickness, losing friends, heartbreak, loneliness, confusion, frustration, anger, fear, sadness... but I've also turned my world upside down. I had no idea, for example, that Taco Bell didn't exist everywhere, or that supermarkets in other countries weren't open 24 hours! It seems silly to think that I thought like that before, but that was just the way things are, lol.

I really recommend travelling abroad to everyone. Whether it's backpacking or first class, whether you have to work your way along or can afford the best straight out, it doesn't matter. Just go somewhere and keep your mind open. It just might change your life, like Japan has changed mine. I'd like to think that I've changed for the better, and I know there is a long way still to go. But I'm a work in progress, and ready for all that Japan has to offer me for the next six years! Here's hoping to my 7th year in Japan being the best one yet!

Cakes that sweet sweet Mako picked up for me ^-^

My hometown (!) friend Kristina came to celebrate!! So did Eda and Mako, who declined the photos, lol. =D;;
We (well, us girls) made ghetto burritos.. mmm, mexican food!

Pardon the hideous expression on my face, lol!!! But it's the only picture that I had. ^-^ It was such a great little party!

Eda stayed the night, and we watched Vampires Suck, laughed our heads off (that girl seriously had Bella's actor's acting down SO WELL it was creepy! And too hilarious. XD I used to love the Twilight books, but when I reread them recently, they didn't seem all that great. The first one was the best, though, as always. Breaking Dawn was a laugh fest. XD Oh well, I will still treasure them.

On another note, I recently reread Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (for the movie!) and it was a LOT better than I remember it. Tastes sure change. I'm salivating for the movie, and I think it comes out in Japan roughly the same time as in America. I can't wait!!

Day 04 - A habit that you wish you didn’t have.

Oh my.. well, this one is actually pretty easy! This is something that I work on every day, in fervent hope that I don't end up a hunchbacked old broad one day, not even needing to bend over to pet one of my 35 cats. That's slouching. I've done it since forever. It made my abs weak (which makes my back hurt when I stand up straight for a long time, oi), and it made my shoulders round.

I wonder why I did this. I usually tell people that it's because everyone is so short that I have to stoop to hear! But once a friend told me (you know who you are!) that it sounded like I was blaming everyone when I said it like that.

..! I had never thought of it that way before, but I can see that. LOL, I didn't mean it that way. I'm not sure what to say now. Height difference was the main reason, and an intense shyness, so I wanted to disappear. There was also the whole "growing boobs but don't want to grow up!" thing, too. :D If I hunched my shoulders and wore big t-shirts, then maybe nobody could see my boobs! LOL.

I really, really didn't want to grow up. Something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I'm 30, in Japan, with somebody that I really love, surrounded by a lot of amazing friends, and slowly and steadily working to try and make my dreams come true. There are times that I think about "grow up" things like marriage, kids, building a house, saving money, etc, and I even feel like I'm ready. Other times it's so scary that I can barely think about it.

But really, does doing any of those things mean that I'm grown up? Or even better, does being grown up mean that I'm no more fun? I don't think that it has to.

*~_~* Right? I'm curious about what you guys think! Even if I do those things, I want to travel with my friends and make the most out of life! Growing up now is a lot better than growing up used to be, maybe ^-^
