Touring Akihabara with Patrick Galbraith
Today I had a special opportunity to take longtime friend Patrick's special Akihabara tour! We've known each other for what feels like forever... though I guess it was really only about 3 years ago that we first met, lol. We used to work part-time together at DHU in Akihabara, giving tests =D Actually, last Wednesday, I did a guest lecture for his manga class at Temple University, on my experiences so far in the manga world.

BUT ANYWAYS.. it was a lot of fun being able to take his Akihabara tour!! I've wanted to for a long time, but never had a chance, and then he stopped giving them due to time constraints... So now TV Tokyo asked him to do a special tour for them and he needed guinea pigs.. so here I am! I was shocked to arrive and find several other friends taking part too, lol!!! Tokyo is large, but the world of foreign otaku is kind of small. =^-^= To be honest, I've hesitated to say that I'm an otaku these last few years (I want to move into the pro world), but thanks to Patrick and Mako and a few others, I really don't think that you need to make such a distinct divide! I do love anime, after all, and these days, especially manga!! ^^

I also learned A LOT. Patrick is a really, really, really huge fountain of information! I have no idea where he puts all of this info... Wow!! I wish that he was giving the tours still, because some of that information is just invaluable! Speaking of information, I managed to snag a few of the Tokyo Realtime Akihabara and Kabukicho tours from Max himself. ^^ Anybody want to join me? You need to have an mp3 player, and we can listen and walk the tours together.. whatcha think? I want to take a lot of pictures and write good reviews, since I've heard really good things so far. =^-^= Any takers?

Anyways, a few pictures from the tour!!

He was taller than me!! Umm, I think Ken from Fist of the North Star...?

Me and Rei-chan getting cozy!

I can't lie, these things kinda freak me out.. the weirdest thing was that they had samples of the skin on little cards outside.. It was so lifelike!! nomg.

Gettin' dorky now! Or were we already past that? These are the new Evangelion headphones.. too bad they are too expensive for my tastes!

Patrick explaining about Canned Ramen. Oh yes.. =D I've had it before (for Pop'n Press)... it's not so bad!

What is going on?!?! Tune in to TV Tokyo to find out! It was quite awe-inspiring ^^

Alexis with some of the aforementioned ramen. It's made with konnyaku, so it doesn't lose it's shape! :O

Patrick and I, um... KAMEHAMEHAAAAAA?

By the way, the tv show is called "出没!アド街ック天国" (Shutsubotsu! Admatic Tengoku = Appearing frequently! Admatic Heaven), and it will be on TV Tokyo, September 4th, at 9pm. I'll try to remind everyone later on! From now on, I'll be better about reminding people when things of mine are on the air!! =^-^=

I've been meaning to get in touch with you so maybe the tour would be a fun thing to do. I am up for it whenever your free. I mostly work on weekdays but am heading on break soon. In case you've forgotten, I'm that girl from infinite frontiers. ;)

What is your pc email? I will have to convert the CDs into mp3s so that we can each listen on our mp3 players as we walk ^^

LOL! That Shutsubotsu! TV show on 9/4? I may be on it too! X.DDD Last week after the public recording of Tokyo Anime Center RADIOw (every Tuesday at the Tokyo Anime Center in Akiba), they had some cameramen come in to film the personalities and the audience. I was sitting 5th row center, so I think they definitely got a shot of me. .^^;;;;

You two are doing what we call "charging up" or "looking constipated".
I think the former sounds better.

OMG XDDD I want to watch this when it's on, and the walking tours sound like they might be a lot of fun. I find that even though I've lived here a long time I know very little. ^^

and I think it's okay to like "otaku" stuff as long as it's not your entire life. And really, even if it's your entire life, that is OK too since it doesn't harm anybody - I just can't really relate to people who don't DO anything else.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 12th, 2010 02:51 am (UTC)
Okay, let's do them in a group of three with capriciouswind? I'll send you both an email as soon as I get her address, and we can figure out a time that works best for the three of us ^^ I'll send you both the mp3 files too ^^

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 12th, 2010 02:52 am (UTC)
It's not bad, really! There is curry and stuff too, so I suggest you try it! You'll regret it if you miss out!
