Itsumo arigatou♡♡
Wooooooow. Just, wooooow!! =^-^=

I was really surprised at how many people commented on my last post, saying that they are wishing me luck and supporting me in my quest to become a mangaka here in Japan.

It's so touching.. I honestly, still can't really believe it. I kind of anticipated some negative feedback from people about leaving Konomi-sensei, but there was (almost) none. (!!!) The truth is, I was an assistant for almost a year and a half, but that's not my dream. It was part of it, and getting that job is what made me think that it's really possible, but my dream is to do my own stories, share my own art and stories with everyone.. and maybe, hopefully, create something that people will love and enjoy!! I want to thank everyone for giving me the confidence to work my hardest on it! I want to thank my friends for standing by me, and of course Mako-chan for guiding me right now. ♡ He is being really strict on me, but that is a big part of what is making me work, right now! *^-^*

So, just an update.. I have started working seriously on Denkiki.. the problem being that I know very little about web design, so it is taking FOREVER. Uuuuuuugh. I don't have any money to hire a webpage designer, so I'm doing it all myself. SOOOOO SLOWLY. T-T But it is getting done, step by step. I want to make a schedule to get it all done, but every tiny little thing I have to figure out, so it feels like a road trial. Such a simple idea, too, lol. Anyways, until the site is done, hang on there, you guys! I hope that you like it, even in all of it's simplicity!!

Aside from that, well, I have work here and there. But ever since I quit the manga job, I've been WAY behind on finances (my salary was basicallly cut in half when I left that job, and my apartment costs more than half of what I make, just in rent!). This is really, really stressful, as it makes me think that I should be thinking of little jobs that I can get to earn money. But it would take me away from what I feel that I need to do the most (write manga scripts). *sigh* I will make it work somehow, some way! It makes me unable to go and see my friends much anymore. Which sucks. Maybe I will think of something else, but for now I'll try and work on my manga, and maybe something will come to me! There is nothing that I can do but try after all!! Besides, I should be on a more strict diet anyways-- I really, really want to wear a bikini this summer, but I doubt that I will reach my goal without starving myself for a few weeks.. Darnit.. I have to be more strict! I can't starve myself, I am already wanting to eat every second of the day all of the time anyways (because I love the taste of food)

I guess the other big thing is, prints and stuff. I'm sending them out bit by bit. The only shop that I knew that sold the plastic protectors that I HAVE to use to package them (they definitely won't get bent this way) closed, so it's hard to find them now. But I will! I found a few of another brand in one place, so I'm going to try them out. *crosses fingers* I hope they work! You'll get an email when yours is sent out, promise!!

And the picture at right... I made coffee jelly today!! It's super-low calorie (the only real calories are in the cream), so it's a pretty good dessert!! And since I'm low on cash and I already had coffee and gelatin, I decided to try making my own!! OMG. YUM. I will post my recipe for it sometime, if people want to know! But before that, I want to try to make like green tea gelatin and stuff.... *bounces* YAY for CHEAP ass and possibly even healthy (!!) desserts!! Now if only I could find a zero-calorie creamer ^^

Back to work!! For now, gonna try and finish up another manga name tonight! I have to leave the house for newspaper work tomorrow, and before that it's the post office for me! Kyaaaa~~~~~ ganbarimasu♡♡

Congratulations on your progress.

I also recently ate coffee jelly and love it. Japan has thought up so many clever treats that I just don't know how the US did without them!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 13th, 2010 11:57 am (UTC)
Yeah, it surprises me too!! But then, the US has so many things that Japan doesn't as well (like cheese in a can!! And Tillamook cheese spread! And hot dogs. Why Japan do you not have them?? ToT)

I was really wondering what in the world was in that cup. Thought it was some type of cola with ice cubes, the cola foaming after you pour it down on the cubes. So wrong I was, rofl. But I'd gladly like to hear your recipe, I enjoy coffee in various forms (not just in plain black) and ass an ex-student who's unemployed at time, I do enjoy simple tricks.

As for bikini issues - don't be too strict on yourself. I know why people require getting in shape before wearing those but not everyone is suitable for them, no matter how much they worked out/were on a diet. You're slender-built so I think bikini could work on you though, but remember to find the type of stuff you feel comfortable in. Some people won't make it in bikini which consist weakly of strings, not real good straps. Ok, a lingual failure here but maybe you know what I mean. But definitely not the choice of every body figure, people think it's a must but it really isn't.

Do you exercise btw? Is it possible for you to get around on bike, do distances work for you in that sense?

I encourage you for the financial struggle. Having just moved to my own I relate to these things a lot now. Wish you luck with your career-to-be
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 13th, 2010 12:00 pm (UTC)
The thing is, I want to wear a bikini... really, really badly. Well, I could always wear one, but I want to feel good wearing one, if you know what I mean! Plus, I want to have a body that I am proud of... and since I am turning 30 this year, I feel like my time to look like a hot young 20-something is going to be over soon. T-T (unless I get plastic surgery) I would definitely regret it when I am am 100 years old, if I didn't take the time to llook young and sexy while I could! Since I can't later on.. I hope that makes sense!

And yes, I do work out, by riding my bike. But it's hard to motivate when I don't really like it. I started karate recently too, so hope that helps.

A quick note, I'm a web designer actually. I've been doing professional corporate web design for nearly 10 years. If you need some help let me know. Perhaps you can come down and I can help you out with as much as I can.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 13th, 2010 11:55 am (UTC)
OMG, would you seriously be willing to do that for me? I don't know how I could repay you!! (Can you do word press themes? Stylesheets I especially have problems with.. x.x)

Lol. But seriously I'm glad you finally had the balls to do it
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 13th, 2010 12:01 pm (UTC)
LOLOL Actually, I did get a few messages like that, if you believe it!

Do you mean webpage design in terms of layout or coding? Having a flair for layout is something a bit more personal. I know I like some layouts and not others and my husband's opinion does not always mesh with mine.

If you mean in terms of coding/html/scripting. I'll ask his advice on some good website tutorials and if he can recommend anything. I remember when I was trying to learn how to set up frames and iframes and learn some css he had some great suggestions, though I believe he now prefers something more straightforward and hates all types of frames. I can't remember everything I learned since it's been a bit since I built a website so will have to review for my eventual new one.

I think quite a few homeowners here in the US have gotten themselves in the same financial situation as you where their salaries mostly just cover their mortgage. Personally, if I was in your situation I'd feel more comfortable trying to find something additional, but with the non-erratic hours of working for Konomi so that you can still make a schedule so you can work on your manga and have time to do things important to you.

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 13th, 2010 12:05 pm (UTC)
I am alright in terms of visualizing what I want it to look like. It's getting it from paper or photoshop to a final version that kills me. I only know the old-school html, and have no clue about this whole stylesheet and php thing. Urgh, I wish that it was more obvious, and I don't have the time to study it in depth.. T-T

Ganbarimasu!!! In both money and website. I can't think of any part-time jobs that I would really like to do aside from tv or modeling.. so I am trying hard to get in shape and then I will register myself with every agency that I can!

Re: website, thanks in advance for any advice that you can give, Rachel! ^^

It's hard working self-emloyed. You're going to be very wobbly, financially for a while, but it'll settle down once you find your feet. You should probably take on freelance work to help keep you afloat. (But I do realise you have the acting caree as well). It's good to build up a client base during this time, and while you may really want to dive into your Manga work, make sure you can support yourself first! You could also consider teaching english part-time for extra money?

I freelance, and I'm also trying to steady myself and build up a client base so I know exactly how you feel! It's a pain in the bum, but as long as you keep a tight schedule (make daily / weekly task lists and keep a diary! Plus records of your finances and ingoings/outgoings etc etc) then you'll do fine. More than fine from what I've gathered from your blogs. You're highly motivated and very, very gifted.

And a great cook o__O That jelly looks amazing! How did you make it?
Kimyunni on June 13th, 2010 12:14 pm (UTC)
OH!!! Also where are you? There's a VOICE-ACTING company in Tokyo that takes non-japanese people :) It's a good agency from what I gather... here's the link! http://www.dagmusic.com/English/

Wow, I'm so excited to see your manga in it's finished form! :D It's great that you're focusing on it! Do you have a story yet? Any idea what it's going to be about? ^^

Dude... how are you unable to wear a bikini? you're so thin!!!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 13th, 2010 01:12 pm (UTC)
I am thin, but I have a terrible stomach. Until it's somehow flat and non-flabby (etc), then I can't wear a bikini. :( You can be thin, but still have terribly unseemly shapes. Nobody seems to believe that.

Wahahaha, Good to see you working hard! ^^, good luck with aiming for a bikini body! Try and build up some stomach muscle I guess...? To look toned in that area. :D

(Aha... It's winter right now where I am, I should be working hard to achieve a toned body by summer.)

If you would like, I can help you. I'm not an expert or anything, but I have a pretty good knowledge of web design, css and html and java and some flash. I don't mind working for nothing lol.

oooh, coffee jelly! yes, please do share your recipe. I love it and have been spreading the love in my office, but it's so hard to find over here, and when you do, it's awfully expensive. :(
arthurfrdent: kermitararthurfrdent on June 13th, 2010 04:56 pm (UTC)
see? ask for help in any way, and people will pitch in with suggestions and/or tangible help... best of luck ;)

so a couple things that you mentioned maybe not as seriously... how about some kind of SuperCool Jamie-San's Things Not To Miss in Tokyo guidebook?

Or? just occurred to me... how about a walkabout-podcast that would be your voice to go along with the book. Kinda like a museum guide, in your voice and about your kind of interests... that people could buy when they visit Japan. Included with the book or on it's own.

I know that wouldn't be a small undertaking, but I think you probably have the connections, and definitely have the smarts to do something like that. Seems like it would feed off most of your talents, and it might be interesting.

It's a thought anyway. ;)

Take care of yourself... you might have noticed we are rooting for you ;)

OH! I do hope you enjoy your time becoming a great mangaka! It's such an exciting experience and when you publish your stories, will definitely have to check them out!!! ^^

Hola Jamie~

If you want, I can help you with your website. I'm not amazing, but I know enough to make a decent website. ^.^ I don't charge anything either :P

I'll be out of town until July.... but contact me if you're interested! :D
Meganhk_panda on June 13th, 2010 09:13 pm (UTC)
I hope you bounce back when you debut your manga! It's good to know that you're spending time working on your manga. I remember when you were working for Konomi-sensei you didn't have any time at all :( And the coffee jelly looks yummy. Oh and like what the other people said, if you need any help on your website I'll be glad to help. I took a lot of computer science and web designing classes :D
