These days..!!
To be honest, I haven't been going anywhere or doing anything recently!!

Except yesterday, when I went to see the Blue Men Group!! ♥ It was for work, but I had a great great time! What an interesting show!! I'll be writing about it for Asahi Weekly, so when that comes out I'll let you know =^-^=

Other than that, my days have been mainly
1. Japanese study
2. Reading (rarely)
3. Drawing
4. Cooking
5. Trying to do one of the above and failing.. lol

One thing that I've noticed lately (I just took a break from inking something to write here) is that it's really difficult to get started, but once I pass that hurdle, then I'm in heaven just drawing and drawing for hours!! I like the original sketching of ideas, and inking and coloring the best right now... can't stand doing detailed pencils (even though they're necessary), because it just feels like such a WASTE. Everything gets erased.... does anyone know what I mean? I hate wasting things... I just want to head straight to the finished product!

I wonder if it all stems from being a dreamer....

Btw, just a reminder, but my formspring is always open to answer questions! It's a little bit like FAQ, I guess.. It's here: http://www.formspring.me/jamielynnlano

I just wanted to say, I really love reading your posts. I don't comment much, but I'm in the audience, clapping wildly for your success and sympathetic to your challenges.

I deeply admire your success as a manga artist, and I'm grateful that you share so many aspects of your professional and personal life, living in Tokyo.

So I guess this is the post where I say, Thanks, Hinoai! I'm over here in Canada, always wishing you the best.

oh, and I know exactly what you are talking about, wanting to get right to the finished piece - and erasing beautiful pencils can be terrible! I work in animation, and it hurts me to see some beautiful, classic cartoon work in storyboards get actually thrown away because the show will be animated in choppy, blocky Flash.

I know what you mean. I always hate doing like "needless work", especially if I know it is something that will just get erased or turn out bad anyway ;P
I want to see more of your art, you have not shown anything for a while now ^^

I know what you mean. I don't like drawing backgrounds but if I want to be the best artist ever I have to draw backgrounds. The life of an artist is.... I don't know what it is.

You know... the Blue Man Group just reminds me of Suliban from Star Trek: Enterprise.

Just thought I'd say that.

I'm the same way. It's like torture to start any project (art, cleaning, etc) but once I get going I enjoy myself. :)

Hi, sorry to comment suddenly like this.

I’m currently doing a Masters at a University in England (where I’m from, although I actually live in Tokyo), and I’m working on a research project looking at the way people use language in their blog posts. I’m particularly interested in the way people might promote themselves, or their work (manga, for instance), but also in the way people describe their everyday lives. I’ve been following your blog for quite a while, so I was really hoping you would maybe give me permission to use a sample your blog, and include it in my course work? Of course, I’m happy to omit names etc if that’s a problem ~

Thanks for your time,

Julian K

Hi Julian,

Sure, you're welcome to use any part of my blog that you like in your project. Don't worry about the names-- they're written publicly here, so I don't think it would be a problem. ^^

Good luck with your project!

Thanks a lot! That really helps me out ~

Good luck with your own projects, too!
