Welcome to my apartment♪♪
I recently finally started decorating my apartment (I want colors!! This is all Kimberly's influence.. ^^)

But in any case, people always ask to see my apartment, so if you'd like to see it as it is now, here is your chance! ^^

It is basically a one-bedroom type apartment, though it's all connected by flimsy sliding doors, so it's not really the same. You can't watch tv or anything without the entire apartment hearing it, so it's not really possible to share unless you don't mind arranging your life around someone else! (okay for a lover, I think ^^)

There's also a balcony, though I didn't take any pictures of that since it's not exciting! I live on the third floor and have a nice view (out the windows--the balcony is mainly for laundry and it faces another building). ^^ I'm really glad that there's nobody above me, so I don't have to deal with any noises. The highway nearby makes a lot of noise at all hours of the night anyways!

There you have it! ^^ I still need to make or buy curtains for the living room, but I can't find any fabric that's perfect yet.. Oh well, one day! I might repaint it too, but it's a hassle, so probably not, lol. What do you think? I've lived here for about a year, and have another year left on my contract. I will stay here unless something big in my life happens, like marriage or something. ^^ (even then, I might stay or use it for my studio ^^) I don't have a desk at the moment, so I do all of my drawing on my lap or at the table. My computer (the PC, not the net book) is connected to the tv atm, so it's pretty unobtrusive, lol. I do need a desk, but I'm not sure where I'd put it! And I can't find one that I like for a price that I also like. :3 I am not big on disposable crappy furniture (hence why I also don't have a coffee table, though I definitely need one!)

Wow, our aesthetic is so much the same :) Bright colors, and little cubbyholes full of art supplies and books!

In my case I have a house so built shelves all around the room, but yep, full of books and art stuff :)

My own desk is a solid core wooden door (light wood color) on top of two black file cabinets. It's the best desk I ever had. Large (3 feet deep for a standard door!), and sturdy, and yet somewhat modern fashionable too, due to the shiny black file cabinets. On top it has a vinyl sheet, with photos and maps and art reference underneath.

I've loved the idea of a desk made out of a door for a long time!! But getting a used door isn't really an option here and a new one is more expensive than a normal desk! XD;; I guess I'm stuck checking random places and ikea until I find something that strikes my fancy! =D Something unusual or eclectic would be nice, though who knows where I will have the room to put it XD

^w^ YOUR APARTMENT IS SO CUTE~ ♥ Stop making me want to move to Japan! xD

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 9th, 2010 06:52 am (UTC)
LOL, but my apartment doesn't look like most japanese apartments =D;;

O___O Did you paint the walls yourself? Btw, I like that golden sun where the pipe from your AC goes out.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 9th, 2010 06:52 am (UTC)
Yep! Thank you!! ^^ It's not done yet, but I haven't added to it in months XD

So cute! I love the colors! .^__^ It looks a lot more like a real home than my empty little apartment. .^^;

Your house is so colourful compared to most Japanese homes!

Your apartment is so cute, it looks so homey! I love the giant sun on the wall :D

Thanks! I randomly decided to paint that one day when I felt depressed XD

Cute place!

I just signed for a 1K in Asagaya yesterday, so you're giving me some ideas for my new place! Shame I can't paint the walls though!!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 9th, 2010 06:54 am (UTC)
Yeah, it's so rare! I took this place because they said that it was okay =D I am never going to take a place where I can't paint again!

LOVE your room with all the manga next to it, as well as the sun wall (: If you plan to live there even after the contract is up, i say GO FOR IT ^^ even if you don't, if it's not too much trouble and money, its enough to repaint (:
You must really like the place, I see a lot of ^^s in it (:
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 9th, 2010 06:55 am (UTC)
Thanks! ^^ There is actually surprisingly little manga there-- I am always going through and giving it away! XD;;

Actually, painting here is REALLY expensive. The gold paint (one can!!) for my bedroom cost $350!! That's more than normal, but you can't get very many colors and it's usually about $50 for one big can T-T (it's really hard to find non-shiny ones especially)

LOL I put in a lot of effort and organized everything last week! =D Before that it was a mess XD

Well I can tell you are having a blast. Also love the color schemes for your apartment.

Re: Sweet Pad!
That's because I love decorating (my own spaces)!! ^^ If I had an unlimited budget, oh the things that I could do!

I remember that this is the 3rd apartment/house I see that you've lived in. All in all in how many different apartments/houses/etc. have you lived ever since you came to Japan?

And also, wow that's a HUGE apartment!! How can you afford that in Tokyo??! (O_O'')
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 9th, 2010 07:00 am (UTC)
This is the sixth place I've lived in here. =D If you don't count the studio, which has felt like home sometimes. I've certainly spent enough time there!

And it's not huge... It's just a 2K. It's out of the main city (suginami-ku), so it's less than $1000/mo (I am having a hard time paying rent but I can make it just barely). It's less than either of my friends are paying for one-room tiny places over near Tokyo/Ueno.

And I REALLY wanted a 2-bedroom, which I guess would be a 3K here, so that I could have guests stay over whenever I wanted without it being an inconvenience. But I couldn't find one near Kichijoji for my price range (and I refuse to live on the first floor, it's too dark and too dangerous). Japan has such small houses T-T I can't wait until I build my own place-- it will seem a lot larger!

Beautiful place.

Is that water dispenser above your sink normal? I'm trying to follow all of the tubes and figure it out. I'm particularly curious as to where that blue one wonders off to.
akibareakibare on May 9th, 2010 05:28 am (UTC)
It's normal as far as I know, from decades back and living in quite more poor environments :)

But yeah, you have water pipes to the house, heated only to the minimum to keep it from bursting (which in Tokyo isn't a real problem anyway) then for warm water it heats there at the unit at the sink, you push the button and the gas comes on and it heats the water for "hot water" and it comes out when the water is heated.

Blue one is probably thick rubber and going to the gas outlet.

Personally I wish I could have it at my own house now too (I live in Illinois in the US now).

Back in the day renting single rooms (no toilet!) myself there was always a gas outlet, you hook up a stovetop that's basically a glorified bunsen burner. But the hot water heater hooked up that same service.

Also, where is the bathroom? :( I remember viewing one of your other apartments and the bathroom/shower was so interesting!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 9th, 2010 07:06 am (UTC)
LOL, I didn't take any pictures because I haven't really decorating them at all! I did paint the bathroom silver though =D I will post them when I'm finished! ^^
