Shiba-zakura (Lawn o'flowers)

Sakura on the ground just might be prettier than sakura on the trees... is it just me that thinks that way?

Kimberly invited me to go see the Shibazakura in Saitama with her, so on Wednesday morning we woke up bright and early and trekked out to see the gorgeous fields of flowers! They are well-known among japanese people, but not so much among foreigners. We didn't see any other obvious out-of-towners (so to speak) there. But really, one of the nice things about Japan is that they consider flower-viewing a bit of a sport in itself. There's hanami of course, where people gather beneath the sakura trees just to drink and party, despite the fact that it's still quite chilly out in the beginning of March. But before that, roughly around the end of February, where people gather to watch the plum blossoms. And of course many other times around the year. There are always festivals and huge crowds at the big shrines/parks to celebrate. ^^ I think, this year, I want to go flower-crazy!! Anyone want to go with me???

There is even a website for this particular area: http://hanasanpo.jp/index.html

I love nature.. and flowers are something that I think can appeal to everyone, no matter where you are from, no matter what age you are, no matter what gender you are... *^-^* I wish that I could share it with my someone special, but Kimberly is pretty darn special herself, so it was a ton of fun =^___^=

And of course we took a few pictures!!

Kimberly and I on the train. She beat me in color-fu that day, for sure! I must not lose!!

Pretty flowers on the way to see pretty flowers!

Here is what the shiba-zakura look like close-up. ^^

It's me! I wish I had worn something colorful! (and I am really glad that I brought a hat!)

Again, me! XD

Aren't they gorgeous?

And lots more random pictures of the two of us.. XD;;

Self-serve syrup for shaved-ice.

I had blue hawaii, green apple, and peach ^^

And the most delicious thing ever, Shiitake-yaki!! (Grilled mushroom) Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! I think this is even better than grilled squid, and that is saying a lot!

Lindsay (starrbeam) after her dance performance. It was really cool!

RtoL: Eda(dilettantka), Lindsay(starrbeam), Hannah(akahannah), Me, Tiffany(lizstarsky). =^-^= Fun fun!!

It was pretty sunny with the bright sun beating down on us (though only in the mid-seventies, so not too hot although it sure felt otherwise), so we didn't stay too long, and I had to be back in Tokyo to see Lindsay's dance performance in the early evening.. all in all, a wonderful wonderful day! On Thursday, I met up with M and we watched Avatar and had possibly the best pasta that I've ever eaten... I THINK I UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE LOVE PASTA SO MUCH NOW. It's not the starchy bland pasta, it's what is ON the pasta (right?)!! This is kind of a big revelation.. next time I go to this restaurant I will take some pictures. =^-^=

Grilled mushrooms are awesome, well mushrooms are always good in my book, though I agree that squid is yummy too =3

Shiba-zakura (Lawn o'flowers)
that`s amazing... over here the flowering trees are holding on to their blooms unusually long this year, seems like. Either that or I just never noticed in past year. Maybe this year I just feel everyone can use a bit more beauty and grace in their lives...

Flowers are great. The tree in my backyard burst into bloom a few days ago, but we got hit with a big spring snow storm yesterday. The blooms were still growing strong though, even under the snow! It looks awesome so I took pictures. Flowers are stronger then most people think. ;)

Those look like what we call Sweet William here, it's a pretty popular ground covering.

I know when I come at the end of June/early July I'm hoping to enjoy the Ajisai in Kamakura. I positively adore ajisai and it should be in season then. ♥

I totally agree, flowers rock. Tulips are the city flower here in Niigata, and you can find them EVERYWHERE now. I love going out for walks and seeing flowers everywhere! Since I can't have pets I'm also planning on slowly filling my apartment with flowers and green plants. For some reason they just uplift your spirits ^w^

Such beautiful pictures taken! Hey could you recomend an apartment complex in Phoenix? If I remember you did live there for a bit right?

Re: Lovely!
I did, but I can't recommend anywhere nice, gomen! I was just a student, so I lived close to school, I didn't really look at any place.

Wow I may have to agree the sakura on the ground could be prettier than sakura on the trees.

I think you did well with what you had on as it make you stand out more.

That shaved-ice self-serve syrup looks so good!
