11/30 Sakura...
I mentioned this before, but last Monday I went to see the sakura in Shinjuku with Eda. It was pretty cold, but the sakura were pretty. Usually they bloom really fast and trees turn completely pink within a week, but the weather suddenly turned freezing again this week, and the sakura really haven't bloomed much! I'm kind of afraid that they are going to all die off without blooming.

Isn't that sad? Sakura season is the prettiest time in Japan, PLUS it heralds in the coming of non-freezing weather. I guess this year is different.... um, isn't global warming supposed to be happening? T-T I am still hoping for tropical weather to take over Tokyo...

Sakura chou dessert from Takashimaya.

Me.

Eda.

Flowers (not sakura) and buildings.. this is life in the city!

There is also a fake waterfall in the park, so we took a few pictures.. (why won't my hair grow longer? T_____T I want Miley Cyrus hair like now.. tired of growing it out for years and getting nowhere x.x)

Eda loves the waterfall?

It's the infamous coccoon.. Waiting for the exit of the pod people!

And the mushroom building. This is the Metropolitan government building, btw. It has a gorgeous view from the top and it's free to go up in. I love the cafe in the West tower.

It can't be just me that thinks this is phallic. Very very VERY phallic. What else could it be and why would they put it in a public parK? O.o;

Eda likes it though..

I sorta do... okay, not really, but I'll pose.

The cute little bunny that let me pet it..

Sakuras and future sakuras..

Oh my.... SERIOUSLY?? I know I am a bit of a prude.. I do feel that anatomy should be taught of course, as should very detailed sexual information. Porno? Fine (for adults). But I feel like something like this statue is erotica (naked well-endowed woman with huge nipples naked holding an also naked young boy with his legs wide open and detailed genetalia. Isn't this child porn anyways?), and it should not be there. I don't want erotica viewed by children any more than I want porn magazines viewed by children.

No words....

Tomorrow I have filming for Pop'n Press, so it's an early bedtime for me..

Those sakura photos are lovely. And i saw the rabbit! Adored!!

And i kinda agree on the statue...not the right place to be putting that there. What's the decription on the statue? I mean they must have explain the relevance for it to be there...or its purpose???

I didn't get close enough to read it since there were ladies smoking underneath. T-T

I know it was a joke about the global warming thing, but, for those people who really don't understand how this winter can be so cold if the earth is warming:

http://www.reporternews.com/news/2010/feb/10/expert-variations-part-of-climate-change/
But more important to current conditions is that the first and “most obvious” sin of climate change, Hayhoe said, is an increase in “extreme events,” something she said can be seen on a global scale.

“We see a pattern that is happening across Texas, that is happening across the United States and is happening across the whole world,” she said.

Heat waves, drought, heavy rainfall, and yes, even snowstorms and blizzards, are getting more and more frequent, she said.

Personally, I don't feel there's anything overtly sexual about the statue (the 2nd one). It's just bodies... To me, they're frolicking/enjoying sunshine, or water, or something like that. It's not like it's a statue of a naked man with an erection and holding a little boy or anything.

Wai~ That desert looks really nice! Is it like a muffin with pink icing? Well, it doesn't really look like a muffin... But it looks yummy!

As for the statue- it could be worse. I think it's fine to put something like that in public.

It's some little cream puffs covered in a weird icing ^^

The images are great.

About the statues, I don't see anything wrong with them.

They're statues of naked people...like all of we are. They're not doing anything sexual, but hey, everyone has his own opinion.

But I loved this post...I wish I could be there to. And the rabbit...adorable!

Taking vitamin B makes your hair grow. I usually find it marked as "Biotin", which is all different kinds of vitamin B with numbers by them. = P My hair and fingernails grew very fast and healthy when I used to take the stuff.

Thanks! I will try that =D (though heaven forbid my nails grow any faster.. they go like crazy!)

watch your split ends....split ends are hair CROOKS!

the statues.....are a little over-detailed to be child friendly, i think.

what a funny bench....i do NOT want an explanation from the artist, LOL

glad the gloom of last month is lifting.

Haha, I just noticed that there was actually a heart on the ice cream! Love these photos- and the statues are quite interesting, though yeah, I can see how they could be portrayed sexually.

It's actually the shape of a sakura petal =D

I don't see that statue as erotic at all -- it looks like a celebration of life/fertility/motherhood to me. The pose is probably meant to represent reaching for the future, or something like that.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with nude statues in public places. After all, we're all naked underneath our clothes, and there's nothing shameful about that.

The statue of the mother and child doesn't strike me as erotic. It seems to tell a story, more than anything. The large breasts and nipples are very appropriate to a woman who is breast feeding. The child's position seems simply to make it clear that the child is a boy (which is very much the ideal first born, correct?). The whole thing looks like an idealized "Mother Earth" to me.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on March 31st, 2010 01:08 am (UTC)
Ooh, I didn't think that it could be a breastfeeding thing! Do they really get so big?? I was sure it was something sexual since they are sticking out like crazy.

Normally I'm content just to lurk your blog -- lovely photos & interesting stories you've got here, really.

However, as a fellow artist I feel the need to also stand up for those statues. While the first does look somewhat phallic at certain angles, it also just looks like a chunk of carved stone. It doesn't move me, but neither does it overtly offend me.

As for the second statue, I don't think it's fair to label it as erotica. The nudity seems to be completely artistic in nature, and I would have assumed it was a mother and her son -- moreover, their expressions definitely aren't carnal, and they don't even seem to be looking at each other.

That's all, really. I hope the sakura do alright and flourish, so that you might enjoy more outings around them. :]

I'm wondering, on the phallic statue. What do you think that the big 'bridge' (for lack of a better word) is? When I saw it I immediately thought that it was like, a big phallus being shoved into her face, lol. I can't see anything else, so I'm wondering what others might think it is =D

I'm hoping the sakura will start at the botanic gardens here [Denver] by the end of the week... we'll be flirting with 80F tomorrow, before a little cool wave moves through on thurs... glad you are out and about.
