4/30 Naked karaoke..
You know spring is here when sakura wine shows up in the stores, right? (No, I've never had it, I don't drink much)

All that I can think about is love these days. It's so all-consuming. But I just want to have somebody in my life whom it's okay for my heart to go pitter-patter at. I didn't look for years, and it never found me. These days, I tried to look and just got hurt and hurt and hurt. Now.. well, it hurts but I don't know. I do wish that I could take a day off from the hurting, so that I could get things done. But if you've ever been heartbroken like me, maybe you can understand how paralyzing it can be. Can anybody recommend a movie? One of those feel-good girly movies that just make everything all right, ala The Princess Diaries, or Music&Lyrics.

Actually, I want to tell a funny story. This is one of the (many) weird things that happened to me after I came to Japan, and maybe actually one of the least offensive. It was fall 2004, and at the time I worked for the huge english megaschool NOVA. A big group of us were having a going-away party for some of my coworkers, and somehow we ended up at a karaoke place, way late into the night.

All of us were having a private party in a large room, and suddenly one of my coworkers, Dean, came running in and shouted over the music-- "hey, there's naked guys in the next room!"

Winnie, my closest friend there, and I probably had eyes as wide as saucers. Okay, it's like a train wreck. You know that you shouldn't look, and really you don't want to see a bunch of naked, hairy boys in a room (well, maybe YOU do, ;) ), but at the same time, you can't NOT look. Right? Of course we RAN next door and gathered up our courage, and opened the door... AND.....

HERE IS A PICTURE OF RANDOM NAKED BOYS IN A KARAOKE BOOTH. Don't say that I didn't warn you. That there is, well, some not very shy boys. And yes that picture is nearly 6 years old. I wonder who those guys were.

EDIT: Comments locked due to excessive spam o.o;

As we stood there gawking, because really, what else can you do in a situation like that, some of the guys pulled two of my coworkers into the room with them and shut the door. Wtf? I, being the big large tough white girl that I was, went in to rescue them, and we retreated, giggling up a storm, to our room.

After a little while, as we were getting back into the music, one of the aforementioned naked guys came into our room clad in nothing but boxers (very very low-riding boxers, mind you o.o), and began dancing in front of the karaoke screen.

I DIED LAUGHING. I mean, wouldn't you? Nobody knew these guys, and it was pretty absurd, you have to admit.

Our manager shoo'd him out of the room, yelling, and I quote, "put on clothes you f*cker!" When she turned back to us, she held up two fingers about an inch apart and said loudly, "he was f*in' tiny!" (She liked to cuss. She was a very colorful woman, from Australia originally, whose main pasttime in life seemed to be to get drunk and pass out on other people's floors every work night.)

And the rest of the night ended without incident. What a night it had been, though.. I don't think that I will ever forget it, and I have photographic evidence to prove it!

And now I wonder what to write about tomorrow.. I am still trying to get out of depression, but at least this story was amusing to think about.

Wow! You know, I thought I had awesome Japan stories... but I think I need to bow down to this as being perhaps one of the coolest Japan stories ever!

You know, thinking about it... wouldn't you hate to be the person who had to take them their drinks. XD Or even if it was them getting it themselves... still... XXXXDDDDD Maybe you weren't the only ones getting an eye-full that night. XD

Heck I'd volunteer to bring their drinks. ;)

that's hilarious!!! hahahaahha.

if you're looking for a good pick-me-up movie, i really like Bring It On. It's this cheerleading movie with Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union with a lot of fun songs, not the greatest plot, but it's really upbeat!

LOL Actually, I can sing the entire opening sequence without missing a line. "We're sexy, we're cute, we're popular to boot!"

I've seen it that many times. :D It really is a great movie, isn't it?

Naked karaoke sounds hilarious and the picture is hilarious. Oh random Japanese men.

Is there Sakura Ginger Ale this year? :3 That is my all time favorite LE I've ever had in Japan, though those Kit Kats from this year were surprisingly delicious.

Personally, I adore the Wedding Singer, it goes from the heartbreak of having your heart ripped out to one of the sweetest endings I know. Also, Never Been Kissed was the cutest thing. I think I might just like Drew Barrymore. And when I want a long romantic watch, I sit and watch the A&E Pride and Prejudice. >>;

In terms of love, I will be honest, you're at a huge disadvantage because you're in Japan. What Japanese men want in a relationship and what American women want in a relationship does not really coincide well, and I think a lot of Japanese men do tend to look at foreign women as a notch on their belt and not as serious relationship material. I know maybe 4 foreign women who have had serious relationships in Japan. 1 was to a Japanese woman (and they're getting married this summer! ♥ ), one was to another American they happened to meet in Japan (they got married, had 3 kids and seem very happy together), an acquaintance friend JET, who actually left the guy and he wanted to marry her and she was not interested and she eventually dumped him, and a at one point good friend who married a Japanese guy. They're still together but the relationship has had problems through the years, but she is completely devoted to their daughter.

It's much easier for American men to find Japanese women, what both are looking for is much easier to mesh together.

Have you thought about trying to actually meet foreign men in Japan?

Actually, the Wedding Singer is another of my favorites. I really love Drew too.. nearly anything with her in it I end up loving. Have you seen 40 First Dates?

I've known a smattering of both types of couples, some of which worked out and some didn't. I'm not really interested in foreign men right now, for a lot of reasons. I'm going to continue to look for a japanese guy. There has to be more than one out there that is sweet and caring and right for me.

Well, this was a surprise first thing in the morning. I'll be giggling to myself all day. XD

As for movies, I'm partial to Ever After with Drew Barrymore. (Honestly I'm partial to anything with her in it. ^^; ) Although I think Secondhand Lions is my #1 personal feel-good film. There's not much romance, but it still leaves me all warm, with a few happy tears.

I do hope things look up for you soon.

That story is sooo funny. And the Sakura wine looks so tempting right now. There's a huge specialty wine store near me and they have a whole Japan section. I'm really thinking about trying to get some right now... o_o

You know what movie ALWAYS makes me really giddy and cheerful, no matter how heartbroken I feel?
Mama Mia.
Not sure if you're into musicals, but this movie just always puts me in a good mood. I even have it on my Ipod. It's very much girl-power and full of love and happy times.

That is one funny and memorable story ^_^

I am sorry you are heartbroken :( that is always sad and it is definitely paralyzing. My recommendation is to watch Under The Tuscan Sun, I LOVE that movie!

Why, pray tell, does this not have a WTF Japan? tag?

For it needs one ;)

Oh my, this reminds me of one time at uni, when a bunch of naked guys burst into random lecture halls and started singing and dancing. No one really knew what they were on about, though it was suspected to be a campaign for this fruit drink called nudie. Anyways, it was amusing, and like how the lecturer was totally unfazed and kept talking XD

I was going to recommend Bring It On but I see someone already did =P Since you mentioned Princess Diaries, I highly rec Ever After~ if you haven't already seen it (another Cinderella plot but she does all the saving XD)~ And if you don't mind old school musicals, Hello Dolly is pretty happy =3
