Okinawa part the last (days 3&4)!!
Catching up..... this is the last of my Okinawa picture posts! In order to get it over with (since I don't have a lot of time), I decided to combine the last few days into one post!

We went to some iiiiiiiiinteresting places! Like the Pineapple park, Goya park, Okinawa World, and tons of other interesting places!

Erin, me, and Eda at Zakimi castle ruins (en route to the pineapple park) ^-^

A random ad... XD

Graffiti... XD

And the scariest thing in Okinawa.... the Nago Pineapple park mascots attacked us!!! o.o!!!

Poor Erin...

And next, we went to the Goya park! Just a simple goya-growing plant, but

Or... an alien world???

Those gourds were HUGE!

My lunch... Goya taco-rice!

The goya juice wasn't quite so good, though..

LOL, guess they use real milk in this ice cream?

The biggest aquarium in Japan..... honestly, I was WAY more impressed with some of the other aquariums in Japan (especially the Enoshima aquarium), but it was really big... ^^;

I made a new friend!! Although I feel really sorry for them having such boring tanks..... not cool at all!

We watched the sunset... it was so beautiful in Okinawa above the ocean..

The next day (our last), we headed off to Okinawa World!

Where we explored a cave (so refreshing!)..

...tried new fruits, like this mangosteen (it looks like litchi but tastes like a mango!!!!),

or this passionfruit (my first time having it raw),

or this dragonfruit (no taste)!

And this fresh sugar cane!! Mmmmm!!!

I think once was enough for a lifetime, but it was good!!

But then... I kind of want it again...

The habu, a famous okinawan snake, is supposed to have healing properties.

Especially when inbibed in alcohol?

"habu" a nice day!

Next, we went on a nature walk that just started up recently. It was nice, but really a little bit too expensive to really recommend it.

Can you guess why this area was made into a shrine for the god of manly... err, something. I can't remember. But you see what I mean, right?

A few random pictures from Erin... ^-^

Hey Jamie, this is Gini. Just wanted to let you know that I'm friending you. And that I'm hoping that we can get together and eat some spicy food soon! I'm going to Korea next weekend, which I think will spoil me a bit. XDDD;;

Uwaa. Wow, such awesome pictures. And yay for sugar cane! I have to say the habu freaks me out... but then, that's because I'm afraid of snakes like woah. Even dead.

Nice color pictures, as always :)

I'll BET that cave was refreshing, particularly in summer. I visited a copper mine in the UP during the summer 2 years ago and it was so cold in there we had to wear jackets (not to mention the hard hats) and it was quite a treat.

When I was a kid (in Japan) there was no air conditioning in ANYONE's private homes or on trains or anything, and so summer was just miserable a lot of the time. But near my house, in the mountain there were tunnels left over from WW2. They were all sealed up, of course, so we couldn't go in. However, in the bricked up entrances they had some bricks that weren't solid but rather metal grates, to let the mountain "breathe."

These were AMAZINGLY AWESOME, because in the summer naturally cold air was always blowing out of them. So, you could just stand there and twirl around enjoying the wonderful coldness.

Also I notice the SPAM. Makes me wonder, do people in Okinawa eat a lot of SPAM like they do in Hawaii? SPAM musubi, quite the thing!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on September 14th, 2009 04:30 am (UTC)
They do! I'm not a huge spam fan (it's okay..) but the spam musubi was interesting..
