Giant Gundam and Happy birthday twins!!!
I'm back from Okinawa!! Yays!!! What a fun trip! Hot, humid, sunny, and dirty! Just the way I like it (except for the humid part)! But I have one post to make before drawling on and on about Okinawa...

Right before I left for sunny Okinawa, I spent some time with friends. It feels like it's been forever since I've been able to do that! It was hot and sunny as well (it seems summer has finally arrived in Tokyo!), but a lot of fun! I love the heat, although I could definitely do without the sweat... ^o^;;;;

So! Spent some time at Aloni and Michele's birthday, wandering Shibuya with Adrian, and then heading off to see the life-size gundam again in Odaiba with Trisha and the gang! Fun fun!! Just going to deposit a few pictures, and then I will get to bed! Gotta film in the morning! I will talk about/post about sunny Okinawa later!!

Some girls in yukata in Shibuya.

Me! XP

The birthday girls!

They sure gave us a lot of spoons! (we were at The Outback in Shibuya... yes, the steak place!)

Ale is so pretty!!

Trisha and me on the way to see Gundam!

Gundam this way!

Ees big..

Finally a better shot of the dinosaurs guarding the bay!

I said ees big..

LOL, I think this picture speaks for itself.

Yessir... I mean, ma'am?

Oh, sir..

I see..

A gundam has a pretty cool bum =D

We stayed for the sunset. I just wanted to see the Gundam lording it over the bay =D

The Tokyo skyline.. isn't it pretty??

Erin thought so!

More Tokyo skyline, lol.

Gundam x moon =D

And that's all she wrote! =D

The first picture is my fave. The kimonos are beautiful and it's the first time I've actually really seen one worn on something other than anime :P

Also the LIGHTING effects in that photo are very very nice.

I'm impressed with that aspect generally in most of the photos here, it's making me want to learn better editing myself.

I went to DC recently on vacation and got to see cable TV, the cartoon network (I think - whatever channel shows "Family Guy") had some ad showing the giant Gundam, it was pretty neat to see.

Hi, Jamie!

I discovered you blog through the LJ spotlight a few weeks ago, and I must say, I love it! Your thoughts on daily life in Japan are entertaining to read and really make me want to visit there. Luckily, I'm going to Tokyo in May 2010 so I'll have a chance to see what mainichi gaijin de Tokyo is really like. ^^

You have some beautiful pics of Okinawa. I hope to go there too someday. But I really liked seeing the Gundam pics...not really a mecha anime fan but it was still cool to be able to see life-size Gundam.

Adding you to my friends list because you seem cool! <3 Hope that's okay.

Love the pictures of the life-size Gundam.I wish that I was able to be in Japan for the whole Gundam celebration.

I didn't know that they had Outback Steakhouses in Japan.Have you ever been to Jackson Hole? They talk about it a lot in NANA.

I have! It seemed like a nice place. A place that I would go to often if it was made nonsmoking!
Cosmic Kath: Britneycosmic_kath on July 30th, 2009 03:14 pm (UTC)

They don't have them in Australia, but I had a damn good laugh after downloading the PDF menu and sending it to my friends.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 31st, 2009 03:19 pm (UTC)
Haha, what parts are funny to you? I've always wondered what real Australians thought of our poor approximation!

Hm some of the Gundam pictures aren't showing;-; I'll check back laterXD

Omg, that Outback is expensive! I was going to eat there until I saw the prices>>;; haha Is it any different than an American Outback?

That first picture is soooo gorgeous!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 31st, 2009 03:20 pm (UTC)
It's pretty much the same as the American version, down to having english menus.

what a great day! I really enjoyed seeing your photos!

this one is so lovely

Thank you! I thought you might like that one! ^^

I think some of your links are borked.
I find it funny how there's no such thing as an Outback Steakhouse in Australia. Probably the closest thing to it is TGI Fridays ;) I did enjoy going to OS in Japan though for something different!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 31st, 2009 03:21 pm (UTC)
I fixed them now!

Very nice! What did you filter the fuzzy bright pictures with? A blur and upping the exposure?

I think some of your coding is messed up, it didn't LJ cut the pictures and half of them aren't working (got a 404 when I went to a few).
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 31st, 2009 03:28 pm (UTC)
They're all a little bit different, but what I usually do for those kinds of pictures is:
- resize/crop the picture to it's final size
- duplicate the base layer
- set the top layer to screen (or sometimes another setting, depending on what you want)
- gaussian blur the top layer. Just choose the amount of blur based on what you like the best
- flatten the image
- adjust the levels to bring the real blacks back in (drag the left slider and play around with the others a little)
- Sharpen (it takes the blurriness out of the picture, but leaves the 'glow' in, if that makes sense..)

All finished! =D I love the effect, and you can play around with this sort of combination to make soft or glowy images. I also love using it without the blur to make skin tones white, and colors bright (to make colors pop, do all of the above, and then bump back up the saturation)

Ask me if you have any questions, ne! I want to see what you come up with! (I really want to do it to more of our old cosplay pictures. I did it to a few and it really looked neat!)

Hello, glad to make your acquaintance...
Finally a better shot of the dinosaurs guarding the bay!...

Los Angeles Harbor in Southern California has "dragons" such as these...:)

Some of the pictures do not work. I really like the Gundam ones. Thanks for sharing them. I wish I was in Japan :) Take care.

X3 I like the kimono girls~~~~<3 Maybe they had some kind of ceremony? Or do they wear them everyday?
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 31st, 2009 03:30 pm (UTC)
They're actually summer yukata (a lightweight version of the kimono).I doubt that anybody aside from old ladies wear them everyday. It's most likely thhat these girls were heading to a summer festival, although they could have just wanted to dress up.

The kimonos look really lovely.

It's nice to see these slices of life and makes me think that there is the possibility I would be able to go to Japan one day (after I get a lot of money and a visa).

Lol @ Gundam crotch. That photo was the equivalent of an 'upskirt' shot. XD

Still, I so would have loved to be there and see the life-size Gundam. I was never really into Gundam until 00 came out. I started watching it because some of my favourite seiyuus were in it, and then I got hooked!

Tell Konomi-sensei that if Shin Tenipuri ever gets animated, he should try to get Miyano Mamoru and Shinichiro Miki. I'll probably be married with kids by the time there's enough Shin Tenipuri chapters to turn into an anime. Oh god, I hope my favourite seiyuus will still be working then!

We have Outback Steakhouse in the Philippines too. It was great when they first opened here but now it's overpriced and the portions got smaller. ToT

This is going to be completely out of left field but...

I have two tickets to WOMB Cruise (http://www.womb.co.jp/cruise/) that I won't be able to use. :( The event is cruising around Odaiba for a couple of hours, listening to DJs and eating free food. I went to it in May and had a blast! I'm sad I won't be able to go.

I'm trying to find someone to whom I can sell these tickets. The original price is 4000 yen, but I'm willing to negotiate. I'm also willing to travel to Kichijoji or wherever to do the transaction - to make sure that tickets are received on time.

So, if you or anyone you know are free on Saturday, August 8 and want some tickets at less than the original cost, let me know. ^-^;;

I bet it would be fun cruising around with a huge Gundam in the background.
