T__________T Wizard magazine not only charges outrageous shipping prices, they don't ship to Japan. I miss comics, so I was thinking that I could at least read about them. I can't even find a customer service contact address to address a complaint or request to. ToT *cries*

I don't think they're discriminating. Copyright makes those kinds of things difficult. There's also the whole language thing. Offering the service without being able to offer support in the country language feels risky to some. Almost no Japanese companies ship over seas, even if people can pay and speak the language. I can't imagine how well the new Tenimyu online shop would do with international shipping.

I would just get it shipped to a friend, and add in the order notes that you'd like shipping to Japan.

Oh, I definitely have to disagrree. Saying "you can get it, but you can't" is discrimination, right? Regardless of the reason, it still is what it is.

As far as support, I would think that it's natural to expect that support for an english-language publication would be in english only. But not everyone expects the same things, I guess.

I do think that Japan is very discriminatory in their shipping practices in general. It's probably because they just don't want to deal with the expense or hassle of shipping abroad, but that doesn't make it any more discriminatory. It's just discrimination based on geographic location as opposed to race or gender et al.

It's one of those copyright things. Countless jobs are created through international copyright and distribution. Just giving a quick look through, where does it say no Japan? I only see mention of "foreign countries" and the fact there's going to be customs out the ass. It really sucks though. @_@ The amount of red tape and stuff just to get books and movies from another country is ridiculous. From the looks of things, give it another decade or two, and the whole idea of copyright is going to be so different to what it is now, because like you said, this is a very global village world, where we need access to things in spite of where we live. (I'm looking at you Amazon, let me order normal priced food damn it!)

OMG I feel your pain with Amazon! GAH the times that I've seen such delicious snacks, only to find out that I can't have them. T-T *makes grabby hands*

Ah, with Wizard, it says on the shipping page that "we only ship to these countries" and Japan is not among them. T-T sad. I wonder how much it costs at Tower Records (I've seen it at the Shibuya store). It was $14 at Kinokuniya, which made me want to shoot someone. ToT

I just order it myself and get it sent to my parents, and then it gets forwarded. A bit annoying, but meh.

Well, you could always email them and ask if there's a reason. If there isn't one, tell them you're looking for a subscription (if you are. From other comments, I'm assuming you are) and see if they'll help you out. They might have just not had the demand yet.
And if not... while it would be a hassle, the Kinokuniya price might be even with shipping + customs. Hopefully Tower Records is cheaper.

IF you order through the kinokuniya shop online, they would deliver, and I don't think it would be that much over cost. Its worth looking at.

You mean it's a lot cheaper in the Kino online site? Since they charge $15 in the store, I thought it would be the same..
Momokoxelloss_poo on July 9th, 2009 03:21 pm (UTC)
You can always check. I know at least for some of the books, its cheaper to order online because of the version of the book they have in the store is the more expensive one, whereas I get it for cost via the site. And also since I usually buy several things, I get free shipping. They never charge for international shipping. You can check though. I'm not sure about magazines.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 9th, 2009 03:33 pm (UTC)
Thanks Sarah, I'll check it out! ^^

Do you mean a foreign site for Kino? Can you link me? I didn't even know that they had a foreign site, since I always only see the japanese one when I do a search...
Momokoxelloss_poo on July 9th, 2009 03:37 pm (UTC)
No. Just the regular site. http://www.kinokuniya.co.jp The foreign books are usually special order so they take a little bit longer to come, but I'm not charged any special fees. Its just the normal conversion fee.

Great! Thank you! ^o^/
