Tokyo Nobody!!

http://www.artunlimited.co.jp/nakano/tn.html

I don't really talk a lot about works I like or what inspires me. But I'd like to change that!! I started with my offsite blog, talking about a new jewelry maker and the Bakuman manga.. It was inspired by a friend, actually. So that brings me to this..

TOKYO NOBODY.

I came upon this photo book completely by accident last night on my way home from recording in Roppongi. And wow. Seriously wow. I was immediately in love with this book and bought it.

It's a collection of (supposedly) non-doctored photographs of Tokyo, with nobody in them. Not a car, not a human. Completely devoid of life, and yet.. not. I love it. It's the kind of feeling that I want to give in Denkiki (the short manga that I've been writing and working on prints of). The photographer, Masataka Nakano, says that it took him 10 years to get these shots one-by-one. I really, really think it's amazing. I want to try something like that sometime. Just wow. I am impressed! I definitely will be looking for more of his work!!

Check out "Tokyo blackout" by the same guy. It's kind of similar in that it looks like it's a series shot together, but actually its actually compiled over years and years and years. Don’t know where you are, but Junkudo in Ikebukuro definitely has it~

Yeah, I saw it on his webpage and was hoping to get the chance to pick it up soon!
