As we are ushered into a new age..
"With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children' s children, that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end. That we did not turn back, nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon, and god's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."

Minus the references to "god", which is arguably unconstitutional.. it was a fitting end to a great speech. I really do have high hopes for you, Obama. And I hope that you deliver upon them in the next four (or eight) years.

Equality. I long to see more of it in America. And what shows up in America, will slowly trail around the rest of the world. For better or worse (quite often worse), America is a world leader, and where we lead, we are often followed. Let's lead it for the better, and help in some way to create a world that is better for everyone, not just for our own citizens.

I long for the days where I can choose to marry a woman, if I so choose to. I long for the day when someone from Mexico (for example) can come and live in the US in peace, if they so choose. I long for the day, one day, where we face the galaxy, the universe, and what lies beyond with a united front. Not just as America and France and England and Japan and Brazil (etc), but as Earth. When we eliminate poverty and famine and open up borders in help and not only choose, but want from our hearts to help people in need the world over. When we really, finally create the utopia that gives everyone the opportunities that they deserve, and realizes life for the wonder that it can be. I will do my best to work for that purpose ♥

Obama, I hope that you help us all make friends, the world over. That is my hope. And I will do whatever I can to help make it happen♥ ♥ ♥

I'm really happy for America, and I really hope that his promise of change is fulfilled. I wish the sceptics would just hold their breaths and wait and see instead of dismissing him as an empty suit when he's barely even in office though - he's the president for crying out loud, even if they didn't vote for him the least they could do is give him a chance. If he proves to be a colossal fuckup by the end of his term, then yeah, by all means, hang him out to dry a la Bush, but till then....

Mmm yeah, I haven't read anything by his skeptics, since I'm not all that interested. But they don't have a choice, so I guess they'll just have to sit along for the ride. I know how frustrating that can be, but hopefully Obama will show them a better world and they will lighten up. ^^

Sounds like the future earth described in Star Trek! :)

It should be easier to move to the united states. After helping someone go though the process I can attest it is a giant pain in the ass and takes way too long.

I do not think just anyone should be able to walk across the border, but there needs to be less restrictions.

Yeah, basically the future Earth depicted in Star Trek is the one that I'm striving for. <3 It is a good role-model, I believe. ^^

Mmm, I am personally of the belief that we should be one Earth, not individual countries, therefore any borders are not supposed to be there. As a citizen of Earth, anyone has the right to live where they want to live. It will take a long time before that kind of situation is able to be realized though, I believe.

The one Earth idea is good. The problem then becomes, who gets to decide the laws. I hope it is not the USA.

A standard currency would be nice. :)

I like the idea of a standard currency as well. As well as a standard language (taught to all as a basis for world communication, though I would never want any other languages to die out or never be used. Language is so beautiful, and multilingualism is something that should be promoted ^^).

I think in that case, something similar to the House of Representatives would be best, a ruling council with each country (where country functions similar to a state in the US or a Province in Canada). Possibly eventually with a "president of Earth" type title when we are all ready. ^^

A Star Trek fan too? Spiffy!

Anywho, I have an overall good feeling about Obama. Granted, he's not a god that can make all right with the world with the wave of a magic wand. Still, I like that he has the optimism, and the desire to make the world a better place. :3

And, even if he won't be able to create a utopia, here's hoping that he'll do his best, and pave the road that will lead to such.

Yep!! I'm a big Trekkie! Or well, I've watched one series or another for most of my life, so it's been an almost constant presence while growing up. ^__^

Yes, I definitely don't think that Obama will be a miracle worker who can do anything, but I have high hopes that he will help things start moving in the right direction. ^_^

It was a really beautiful text. So wonderful see that there are people who really mind with this kind of things. ^^; It means the world really can change, I think. Because the only one who can change the world are the people!

I'm sure this will not change on Obama's presidency. Cause I think this will not change in just few years, I think it will get a lot of years to change. But I believe Obama can be the person who give an begin, right? ^^;

*nodnod* Very well said! I agree that we have to work to change the world ourselves, and I have faith that people can do it, if we work hard to inspire others. ^__^

It will take a long time to change, but I hope that Obama will start the tide that helps to change the world. ^_^ With our help!
