Kushiel's Scion~~~
I am SO, SO behind the times. I'm finally going to start reading Kushiel's Scion, which is the 4th book in one of the most well-written fantasy series that I've ever read. I was a big fan of this series in college, and used to wait on pins-and-needles for the next book. And then I somehow went over a year between the release of the last book and when I finally picked it up! ^^;; Actually, the next book just came out recently according to Amazon, and I don't even have it! ^^;;

Does anyone else love this seies? I really suggest that if you like books that are very wordy and have a lot of advanced vocabulary, and you like fantasy of course, that you give it a try! It's a very girl-power type of series, though, just so that you know. However, the M elements are another good reason. ^.~

I should put together my 'to-read' list, which would consist of books that I have bought over the last few years and not managed to read yet, or borrowed from people. But it would take too long! ^^;; Anyone want to recommend something good? I'm actually looking especially for a good vampire series, though I tend to stray away from the really dark stuff.

Oooh so that is what the series is called! I watched the first two episodes of True Blood.... are the books better? If they're better, then I'll definitely give them a try! (then again it's not like they could be worse, ne!)

Re: book vampire series...
LOL omg yes I think that her accent is REALLY fake and it's a little bit distracting. XD I do like the idea of the world though, so I'll go and check out the first book if I can find it! (will go to the used book store, I have books to trade in! :3)

Re: book vampire series...
Oooh I heard that it was good! But I haven't gotten a chance to watch the last episode yet. ;o; I can't handle those huge mkvs that people release, so I have to wait for someone else to release an episode with anormal filesize. ;o; And I actually don't have a tv that is hooked up to anything but a DVD player, so there's no way to watch it on tv.. >.>;;

Waaaaaah wanna see Macross! (and wanna go to the concert!)

Oh wow, I loved that series. I haven't been following the latest releases at all - now I feel compelled to go out and buy the newest ones. I always felt that Phedre was such a strong and unique heroine. I'm really excited now!

Do it! Do it! We can catch up together! ^___^

oh, wow, thanks for the book recommendation! *adds to list*

Have you ever read books by T.A. Barron? He writes about nature in a mythical setting -- I love his Great Tree of Avalon series. :D

I heard that the Tales of the Otori series is quite good too. I haven't read one of the books yet, but they sound quite interesting -- they're apparently fictional novels set in feudal Japan.

I actually picked up the hardcover of the most recent one and read it before giving it to my friend who turned me on to them, so I could be caught up before I came to Korea. I think the first 3 were better but the most recent is better than Scion.

I admit I didn't like Kushiel. I simply didn't like the main character which made it hard for me to read. The setting & the writing were fantastic though.

I'm currently reading the Blood Series by Tanya Huff, which has a vampire as one of the main characters and a wonderful though woman as the main character. There's also a TV series called "Blood Ties" based on the books that I enjoyed in a somewhat campy way :)

Not at all a vampire themed author, but I fell in love with Lisa See's work. I'm not much of a reader, but when I picked up Peony in Love, I could barely put it down. The same goes for her book Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Both books take place in China's feudal eras when binding feet was a huge thing. And they both have a major focus on the taboo activity of woman's literary skills. She writes beautifully, and I felt every emotion she portrayed within her characters.

I didn't know you read that series! A few friends though and I hear good things about it.

This sound like a good meme. Just picture this:

"10 books you must read to get to know me"

You should really post something along these lines. the intellectuals (i.e. people that read books) among your readers will be pleased ;)

I would recommend loads of books, but I don't know which series you would like though. I mainly read romance, paranormal, supernatural, fantasy, science, medicine, and a whole bunch of other genres. If you are looking for vampire novels, I think you should read Kenyon's dark hunter series. Its pretty good. Although there is a bit of sex in there, but it is still good. Its mainly romance though. :3

What else? I really can't think of anything else. Oh yes, if you like philosophy, I would recommend Elias books. Well, I forgot the name of the title, but I do remember the author Elias. Really good book though and fascinating! :3 I'll try to remember the title and post here later. :3

I haven't read it, but I've heard of the series and the picture on the cover certainly makes me intrigued! Mmm, corsets. :)

Ahh I love this series. I haven't finished the third book yet, borrowed it from a friend and then it vanished somewhere :(

If you're looking for a vampire series I recommend Sherrilyn Kenyon "Dark Hunter" series or Christine Feehan "Carpathian" series, both are favourites of mine :)

I recommend Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman xD It's not going to be released until another 5 days though, but it's very good, all about this boy getting raised in a cemetery ^_^

Hey Jamie! You might want to try this fantasy novel of love, revenge, and cross-dressing:

I read it because I know the author and her family, but it's an enjoyable read anyway!
