Akemashite Omedetou!! Happy New Year 2008!!

Happy New Year!!

Panorama: (click for the larger version)

Kaminarimon, the front gate to the shrine.

Some toys and snacks were for sale in the vending stalls:

Pretty lights everywhere! ^_^ The whole night was alive!

Some stalls to buy snacks:

And the pagoda.. ^^ So pretty!

Who could do without fish on a stick?!?!

Oh my, it's 2008 already! This year just flew by!!

I celebrated with a few good friends by having dinner and going to ring in the New Year at Asakusa shrine. Nice and relaxing. What did you do?

2007 Q&A:

Where did you begin 2007?
I was with some friends (several of whom were the same as today ^^) in Shibuya Hachiko crossing counting down. ^^ Then all-night karaoke!

What was your status by Valentine's Day?
Mmm chocolate!! What was the question?

Were you in school (anytime this year)?
Sure, though not as a student. That will hopefully change this year!!

Did you have to go to the hospital?
When I cut my hand open, I had to go. I have a BAD scar now. Japanese doctors are so bad I wish that I could sue because they did NOT do it right.

Did you have any encounters with the police?
One stopped me to ask me for my bike registration, just because I'm a foreigner! How annoying! Also, I gave several lazy cops who weren't doing their jobs in my area. I can't stand that.. it's illegal to smoke on the street here except in designated areas, but I see people walking past the police box and cops smoking and they don't do a thing! Aaargh!! >.<

Where did you go on vacation?
I went to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hakone, Mt. Fuji, and traipsing all over China. XD

What did you purchase that was over $500?
Plane tickets to China.. I think that was it!

Did you know anybody who got married?
I don't think anyone did this year... except possibly my sister, but I can't remember if it was 2006 or 2007.

Did you know anybody who passed away?
Not in 2007 I don't think..

Did you move anywhere?
Yep, I moved from Shinjuku to Mitaka. Nice choice! ^^

What sporting events did you attend?
I don't think I went to any. Sports aren't really my thing.

What concerts/shows did you go to?
I think this year I only went to concerts that involved my friends... some of Junko's and some of Hikaru's. I went to a few of Hikaru's plays also, Nana-chan's play, and Tenimyu/Bleach myu (was that this year?) and such as well. ^^ I can't remember any others, though I'm sure there was a few. ^^

Describe your birthday:
You can read about it here: http://hinoai.livejournal.com/630628.html

What's the one thing you thought you would not do but did in 2007?
Keep my retarded job.. I really did want to change it, but I didn't have the courage to drop it. This year I will do it!!! I also took on a baito in a field that I never thought I'd baito in, and liked it!!

What has been your favorite moment(s)?
I can't choose, there are way too many!! ^^

Any new additions to your family?
Nessie. ^____^

What was your best month?
This one, by far! China was amazing and I had such a great time!! Though this year had a lot of really good months. ^^

What music will you remember 2007 by?
L'arc~en~Ciel's "Daybreak's Bell" is the one, I think. ^^ As well as the Kodomo no Jikan op, "Rettsu! O-himesama dakko!". They both were songs that I really loved toward the end of the year. ^^

Made new friends?
Yep!! I met so many great people this year!! ^^

Favorite night out?
Ehhhh.... wow, I can't choose at all! Maybe possibly my birthday?

Overall, how would you rate this year?
Well, the year started out really badly, and I wonder if that had something to do with my lack of productivity. But slowly and surely it became a really fun year, and I think that I came closer to truly finding myself than ever before. I'm really happy about that! ^_^ Though it did seem to go by too quickly with the exception of the last few months. It was like I blinked and 2007 was over. This coming year is going to be a lot more productive, and the real start of my new life! ^^

Other than home, where did you spend most of your time?
Hmmm.... work, I guess?

Change your hairstyle?
A million times. XD Well, not too drastically but I tried out a few different colors and combinations. I still don't know what I want, but I'm fairly sure that I'm going to try to go back to brown for a while. ^^

How old did you turn this year?
27 ^^;;

Do you have a New Year's resolution?
Yep!! Quite a few! I'll write those out next!

Do anything embarrassing?
LOL Little things here and there, for sure. XD

Buy anything new from eBay?
Nope, though I did use yahoo auctions and amazon.com among other sites, I think. ^^

Get married or divorced?

Get arrested?
LOL!! Sorry but no. XP

Be honest - did you watch American Idol?
Of course. ^__^ But near the end I got bored and only fast-forwarded through the episodes to see the parts that I liked... I really like the auditions the best!

Did you get sick this year?
YES. Over and over again, and there is something seriously wrong that I am going to get checked out as soon as I get the money..

Been snowboarding?
No, but I would like to go! I will ask some friends if they'd like to go this winter. ^^

Are you happy to see 2007 go?
I feel a little bit like I wasted the year, dreams-wise.. but now that it's over, I have the motivation to really move on things! I think that I can't really say that I'm happy to see it go, but no sad either.

Here are my resolutions for 2008!
I have a lot of them, but they're all things that I think that I can accomplish!

+ Make at least $50,000 in non-teaching jobs
+ Travel to two countries that I haven't been to
+ Make a You-tube tv show
+ Go down to 150 lbs (my high school weight)

haha wow. well when you say you've wasted this year dream wise, i have to say that you are living my dream life. darn you.

i would kill to be in tokyo to welcome 2008. :-) pretty lights.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 2nd, 2008 02:03 pm (UTC)
LOL It's funny because it was never my dream to go to Japan. I just kind of decided to go and do it one day, a few months before I finished college. So I set up things to take place right after I graduated. It was a really good choice for me, I think. ^^

I know that you can achieve your dreams too, if you try hard! ^__^

I would like to ask (I'm pretty interested regarding my future) how much do You pay for Your flat? Don't need to ask if it is a secret I just want to know what I should expect.

And these fish on sticks XDDDDDDDDDDD

And why do You think Mitaka is better than Shinjuku?
about this dating, woman or man XD
how is it like to get Japanese driving licence? I mean do You have an American one?

I have new New Year's resolution: read Your journal more frequently XD
You like singing? (one of my dreams...) I would like to start learning piano too! Why do You need it? I would use it to pursue my career! And also write a song? Yappari XD
Only five novels?
[random] well in Poland it is still 2007 now XD [/random]
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 1st, 2008 02:09 am (UTC)
I actually live in a large house with two roommates. The share that I pay is 60,000 yen. Fairly cheap for Tokyo, actually. Most of my friends living alone pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 55,000~80,000 yen per month for rent, plus utilities. There are also massive mandatory deposits and gift-money that has to be paid to move into a private apartment.

I like Mitaka better because it's still the city, but it's more rural than Shinjuku. There are parks, plenty of things to do and go shopping, but it's not constant activity like the other places.

Haha, like I'd answer that in public.

I have an American license, but to get a japanese one I have to take the tests to get it. (written and driving, plus fees)

I love singing, but I can't sing well at all. I'd like to learn how to sing well.

Japanese novels are very hard for me, and usually I give up. So I'd like to put more effort into it. ^^ English novels, I sometimes read more than that in one month. XD
Idyllka: haruhi smilingidyllka on January 1st, 2008 11:06 am (UTC)
sorry about that dating question, didn't mean to be nosy, I just remembered sth.
I thought that other country's driving licence is enough, well...
I was asking about these flats cause I wanna prepare mentally. As for Polish it is pretty much but well if there will be Euro here, there won't be such a gap. I hope so...
I thought that if You are aspiring JLPT 2 it would be enough to read it!
As for singing: hobby or debut \(^__^)/?

Happy New Year 2008!

Wow, I´ve never been to Asakusa at night, it sure looks great! Sounds like you had a great New Years Eve ^^
I did party with some friends of mine. We had a great time and YUMMIE food (too much food, but who cares? XD)

I don´t make resolutions, but I have a huge goal for this year: I´m going to Japan and I hope I can stay there for 12 months. I´m very anxious about it, because I´m pretty sure that I won´t be able to find a job (although I hold a working visa for 12 months and a master´s degree) - anyway I`m totally looking forward to it.
WOAH! You have a lot of goals for this year! I hope you can achieve as much as possible!! ^^/
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 2nd, 2008 02:07 pm (UTC)
If you want just any job, I'm sure that you can find one teaching english. They're REALLY easy to get, especially if you're already here in Japan and can interview with a lot of people (and even moreso if you're not picky about the pay/hours/benefits/etc). You can definitely do it!
超ちゃ人: Bleach: Ishida sexy (*q*)chochajin on January 4th, 2008 04:36 pm (UTC)
Well, I´m not sure if I´d like to work for an eikaiwa - but on the other hand I don´t know if public / private schools would be better. That´s why I want to try out different kind of teaching jobs.
But I´m not coming with a huge amount of money, so if I can´t find a teaching job, just any job has to do ;___; .....
Well, I guess they´re easy to get for NATIVE-speakers which I´m not - obviously *sigh* - but I´ll try :)

I know you´re not very fond of being a teacher in Japan (^^')
