Chinese visa GET-O!!  Wǒ huì jiăng yìdiǎr Pŭtōnghuà☆
My friend Adrian picked me up the entire set of Kodomo no Jikan figures (including all of the variants)! I'm so happy!! I've been looking for them for quite a while, and now it feels like my collection's complete. Okay, that's not true, there will ALWAYS be more (I am currently trying to get the new Aerith figure from the FF7 potions). Mamiko accuses me of being an otaku, and maybe she's right.. LOL :> I'm a girl otaku, eep! Well, we all have our vices, right? Mine happens to be chocolate and cute anime.

Aaanyways..! Life is pretty good recently, if as hectic as ever. I feel as if I have a thousand things to do, and no time to do them. Work, work, work, and then I've been getting really tired from work (maybe it's the cold weather, or maybe it's the new cold I seem to have developed..), so I can do little more than work and rest. :x Then my weekends are filled with friends and busy duties of mine. I am happy to report that I now have my Chinese visa, and my plane ticket, and I'm planning away! I am getting really excited about China!! So I'll most likely ramble on and on about it in my journal as it gets closer to departure (December 15). Duìbúqì, qĭngwèn. Nĭ huì jiăng yīngwén ma? (<--yes plz?) Wǒ shì Měiguórén.

Seriously, I am really loving (Mandarin) Chinese! I can only say a little bit, most of which I'll promptly forget upon entrance to China, but it's such a beautiful language! There are so many nuances, and the pronunciation is both really difficult and absolutely amazingly gorgeous, that I think that I'm addicted! I'm definitely going to continue to study this later on, and perhaps even take some intensive courses in China at some point in the future. I'd really like to be conversational in a few years from now (gotta master japanese first, and I want to take back up Spanish).

Well, tomorrow Eda and I are making a pilgrimage to a far-off shoe store in hopes of finding something! I really need some new shoes! (curse Japan and their tiny feet!) Wish me luck!! In three years I've never found a women's pair that fits, so I'll need it!

Places to visit while in China (based in Beijing):
The Forbidden City
The Ancient Observatory
Beijing Happy Valley
The National Aquarium
SHOPPING!! (of course will take advice of Chinese natives on where to go..)
Tiananmen Square
Big Bell Temple (maybe)
Old Summer Palace
Chairman Mao Memorial Hall (maybe)
Hot springs (I'm not sure where, though)
Temple of Heaven
Purple Bamboo Garden (Zizhuyuan Park)
Hou Hai lake
Laoshe Tea House
Temple of Azure Clouds
White Cloud Temple (maybe)
Beihai Park

Side trips:
-Great Wall (just outside the city)
-Shao Lin temple (I really want to go there.. the origin of karate, oh yes!)
-Xi'an (Will be going in a small group, I believe?)

Mandarin is a lovely languague. Being Chinese myself, it does helps when I want to learn other Asian languagues like Japanese and Korean.

I hope you have fun in China. Some of the food there are really spicy. You have to try the dumplings there and Pekin Duck.

Ooooh, I LOVE spicy food ♥

Is there anything super-spicy that you recommend I try?

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on November 30th, 2007 11:29 pm (UTC)
I photographed them in front of my window in the morning, so the light was really strong. ^^

Shaolin was very beautiful. Who am I kidding? EVERYTHING was beautiful!! You will have such a great time!

Haha.. I copied the phrases off of some websites. They're the ones that I have learned in my audio program, but I had no idea how they were spelled, so I had to find them and copy them! XD I probably sound horrible.. XD

Oh! No toilet paper?! That's pretty scary!! I'll make sure to pack tissues, thank you!! *clings*

Haha, yeah.. I was actually corrected on that by my coworker. I'm like, "I'm learning chinese!" and she was like, "well, which one?" It's not habit, I guess.. Do you know which one is considered the main one to speak? Is it Mandarin or Cantonese (or another dialect?)? I didn't realize that Taiwanese was considered Chinese though!

Awww, thank you =^__^= I dunno if I'll really hear that though..... :>

Waaa, a trip to China. My sisters have gone to China, but I have not had the chance yet. I hope you have a great time. I've been thinking about learning Mandrin or Taiwanese as well. I think all Asianic languages are pretty and the Chinese group has such a variety of voice tones to use.

I wonder what I am going to get most into buying over in Japan if I get accepted to the JET Program. Probably if anything, plushies. I love plushies. Luckily, I probably won't run into a shoe problem as I have small feet. When I went to Japan back in 2000, I was the only person in my group who could find shoes in Japan. I guess sometimes it pays to be petite.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on November 30th, 2007 11:45 pm (UTC)
Hehee... plushies are so addicting!! I'm lucky though, most of the plushies that I want aren't sold in the stores (anime characters, mamegoma, onsen manjuu, etc), so I don't have to spend too much money on them..

CHINA!!! I just went back this summer and it was just so amazing! Any chance you're going to stop by Shanghai *is my fav. city in China*? As for Beijing, I think they are pretty famous for their Peking Duck? *went there once 6 years back* and I think there is a large bargin market near the Heaven Temple...don't know if it's still there now...

HAVE FUN!!! Don't worry about speaking Mandarin, my experience is that at least 50% of the people working near tourists spots know the basics of English ^^
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on November 30th, 2007 11:46 pm (UTC)
Unfortunately no Shanghai this time. Since my friend lives in Beijing, I'll be staying there with him. ^^ But I got a 1 year visa, so I'm hoping to go back next year to Shanghai and maybe some other places that I'll miss this time. ^^

Oh nice! Have a great time in China! My sister in law is Chinese, so i've been meaning to try and learn some of the language myself because one year, i'll be going there as well to meet the rest of her family. My brother went there early this year and really enjoyed it.

So i'm sure you'll have a great time there, too. ^_^
