Here is a partial picture of my new kitchen! I am so ecstatic that the KITCHEN is bigger than my entire apartment right now. Oh the things that I will make!!! Mmmm I cannot wait to devour anything and everything that is delicious. Ooooooooven, I can finally get an oven this summer!! <3<3<3 Also adding to the need-for-kitchen list: ice cream maker, sno-cone maker, normal-size fridge, microwave, rice cooker, crock pot. Hmm what else.. Maybe a popcorn popper? (I actually have taken pictures of most of the house but they didn't turn out well so I'm waiting until we get the keys and then I'm going to go in and photograph everything. Documentary time!!)

We are SO getting this house!!! Still haven't signed the lease yet, but it's definitely going to be OURS. I'm so excited!! But really stressed. Ami and I are both stressed. Both of us are handling a suddenly rather larger job load on top of financial issues on top of moving. I'm handling setting up the essentials (internet!!!) and the office should help with power and water/etc, and I'm also trying to arrange moving details. An AMAZING friend offered to help us, so we're hitting him up hard for the use of his time on moving day. Which looks to be Saturday, June 2nd. Going to seriously breathe a HUGE sigh of relief after this move is over, yes. Though after the move there are a kajillion things to do still not including unpacking and settling. New work routes to figure out, have to update alien registration cards and register with the city, have to get a bike sometime, tons of lines to wait through everywhere, get oriented with the neighborhood, settle old bills left over from move, etc. It never ends, really. Lists work really well for me getting things done, so I'm starting one already but ooooohhhhh man. It's daunting!

In other news, I'm feeling better, though not completely by any means. Still really tired all of the time, but baby steps, right? Thank you everyone for the well-wishes! It definitely helps! =^__^=

Ooooh~! That is a nice kitchen! I hope you two get the house! I know you've been wanting to move for a long time, and finding nice places like that is hard to find/get in Japan, isn't it? Ganbatte ne!:DDD
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 02:02 pm (UTC)
It's hard to find a good place like that within the good areas in Tokyo within an affordable price that allow foreigners, so we're really lucky! It's a really rare find!! ^^
Kira_Shadowkira_shadow on May 16th, 2007 01:54 pm (UTC)

want me to cook for you when I come over?
I'll bring ingredients and stuff =3

(wish I could help with the moving...but T-T too far away~)
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 02:01 pm (UTC)
Yay, that would be awesome!! ^^

Glad to see you are so enthusiastic about your move, can't wait to see the photos :P

Certainly sounds like you've got a LOT to get done, but it will be worth it once the paperwork and the moving is all done *hugs*

If you do get an icecream maker, let me know, I tracked down a recipe for sea-salt icecream [note the KH2 reference :P] (I know it sounds weird, but from what I have heard it is meant to be quite nice, I'm going to try making some myself this weekend >_>) I'll send the recipe to ya ^^
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 02:00 pm (UTC)
Yuuuuum! I heard that they have sea salt ice cream at Disney Sea, so I'm definitely going to try it there. ^^ Though if it's good I'd definitely like the recipe!! Oh I can't wait to go, I've been wanting to go there forever, but just lacking the money to go...

You can make popcorn in a regular ol' pot. That's what I do.

And you can make frozen custard, which tastes MUCH better than ice cream and doesn't require a machine, just a stove and a freezer ^_~

What I would love to get is a yogurt machine. Japanese yogurt is way too sweet for me.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 09:15 pm (UTC)
That's true. But I'd still like a machine. If they're as cheap as America, then I can get a fairly good popper for less than 2000 yen and for ice cream maker? I definitely want to try frozen custard!! But ice cream is one of my favorite things and homemade is the best, so I definitely have to go that way. ^____^

LOL I always thought japanse yogurt is way too sour for me. But I didn't know that you could make it yourself! Awesome!! :O

Anyways, enjoy your new home! ^o^

Yay! I'm glad it worked out~ ^__^ I actually just extended my work contract by a month, and I get Obon off again, so I might end up back in Tokyo ^^

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 09:20 pm (UTC)

Ooooh, congratulations!! Can't wait to see more photos <3

Are you going to take a photo of the outside too? or is that too personal for you to put on lj (?) just wondering what a Tokyo house looks like! Do you get a garden and/or some outside space too?

exciting! ♥
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 09:22 pm (UTC)
Yep, I plan to take pictures of everything! But it was dark when I visited so I didn't really get a chance. I can't wait to see it again! As soon as we get the keys I'm running off there!

There's not really any yard space at all, which is normal here. But you take what you can get. I'm going to grow something somehow. ^^
akibare: なんだこりゃakibare on May 16th, 2007 04:06 pm (UTC)
Wow, your kitchen is larger than mine. In fact, I have a fridge that is old-Japan sized, so, smaller than modern J-fridges, because it's the only thing that would fit, I had to order it specially from GE. When I removed the fridge that came with the house (an old, small sized American one) it had been crammed so tightly into its corner that (1) the floor was unfinished underneath since someone in the 60's couldnt' be arsed to move it, (2) walls were not painted behind for similar reason, and (3) the plaster had rotted out behind from lack of ventilation, so Ihad to redrywall part of the kitchen. Yay. But, the new one is all good... and the old, too-big (but still far smaller than anything sold normally now) fridge has a happy second life storing tofu in progress down at the Co-Op.

You can make popcorn in the microwave, too. Just pour some plain bulk kernels in a paper bag, roll over the top, and 'wave them for 1 to 3 minutes (stop it when the distance between pops is more than one or two seconds). It won't have ANY oil on, though, so for taste then you'd want to toss it in a bit of oil and sprinkle some salt or spices on it. Quite good.

I myself am a fan of the rice-cooker and crockpot, that is how I bring my lunch to work every day. I run the crockpot on the weekends, and get a week's worth (or two) of stewed chicken or whatever, which I take to work with a separate container of rice and some steamed vegetables (just steamed on the stove in the old style metal basket). I have a giant crockpot for families of 12.

Will you have your own laundry machine, then? Probably the best thing about buying a house for me was, laundry in the basement. No more riding my bike to the laundromat.

The smallest apartment I ever rented (around 1990) was just a six-mat room, with a "kitchen" of 1 mat or so, that had a sink and one gas spigot for gas conro only (so cooking was doable). The toilet was shared down the hall, and we had to go to the city public bath. On the way to the bath, was a laundromat, so I'd do my clothes while I bathed. Best part though, there were lines and lines of machines, the standard tiny J-size, and then, in the corner, for some unknown reason, ONE huge, avocado green, Speed Queen, with the metal name plate on it still saying the name of a laundromat in NYC.

It was the same price as all the others, but twice the space. Because it only had English instructions, no one ever wanted to use it, so I always did, it was great.

The landlady of that place sold Amway, too, so I could get free samples. Ah, cheap livin'.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 09:27 pm (UTC)
I want a big fridge. ;o; I'm glad this place has space for it, though we can't afford one right now so we'll probably end up with a tiny thing again. The one I have now is only maybe a foot high, seriously.

We do have space for a washing machine, though we don't have one yet. We're going to have to find someone that's giving one away for free, hopefully, and pick it up when we move.

Haha! NICE! X.D I can attempt to assist you in creating concoctions in the kitchen this summer. X.D *can only cook rice.... with a rice cooker*

Looking forward to more pictures of the place!

Your kitchen looks really nice. Newer than mine too. Though is that some type of foil wallpaper next to the dishwasher? Why is it there? Oo and are those secret cabinets on the floor near the sink?
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 16th, 2007 09:28 pm (UTC)
The wall is actually aluminum there. I don't know why they do that in Japan but it seems pretty common in the kitchen..

LOL I have no idea what those are. Guess that I'll find out after I move in!
