For Sana-chan <3
So, I did an art exchange with my friend sana_chan, the other day (though I drew it tonight... just now ^^;; I'm laaaate~). I really like how it turned out-- We each drew each other, and it was a really fun exercise. I don't think that I've drawn this nice of a "character study" (lol) for a long time. ^.~ You're a good subject, Sana!

Here is the full version // Here is Sana-chan's drawing of me <---isn't it cute? =D

I've been trying to develop more of my own "style" recently. Something that I really like, and feel incorporates all of the things that I'd like to say with my artwork, and also looks finished. It's a little hard, to pin down something that I think best expresses my thoughts/feelings. But I'm starting to get a good idea. =^-^= Ganbarima~su!

So, in other news, I spent all of today looking at apartments with Ami-chan. It was interesting, and we almost rented a house together!! But it was just too expensive to move in. One thing that I really don't like about Japan is that it's customary for the owners of the residence to ask for "reiki" and "shiki", and not in small amounts. There's no such thing as the things that I considered normal in renting an apartment before (ie- first month free, etc). In this case, the rent on the place was about $1200/mo. But with reiki (gift money. And no, it's not optional and of course you don't ever get it back. wtf) of two months rent, and shiki (deposit) of two months rent, plus another month's rent for 'pet insurance', first month's rent, and various other smaller fees, the total to move in would have been just short of $10,000. Yes, and this is NORMAL in Japan. I just can't understand it. I'm still looking for cheaper places, but they're pretty hard to find that don't ask for reiki/shiki. So, yeah.... I want to move into a bigger place, but I'm not sure with whom (I've talked to several friends). I know the general location, but it's pretty hard to find something that fits the bill. Oh yeah, and the realtor called a huge list of about 20 places today that fit our description, and all but two told him that they would not rent to a foreigner. Discrimination. And yes, it's completely legal here to do that. I had to go throughthe same thing 2 years ago looking for my current place. It's TERRIBLE. I can't stand the legal discrimination that goes on here, and I am definitely going to join the group that I heard about from Ami-chan that's fighting to make it illegal. GO anti-discrimination, yay!

I need money. Have none. ;O; But first I need sleep!! Have a meeting for work tomorrow and of course, have to hit up the stores for the new Nana (Olivia inspi' Reira) album. Not sure how I can buy it though... ~_~

OMG JAMIE!!! *hugs* It's so wonderful!!! Uwaaaaaa thank you SOOOO much!!! *o* I'm totally making an icon out of this >D

I've always thought you had an amazing art style! I really love the way you draw and color.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 27th, 2007 05:56 pm (UTC)
*hugs* I'm glad that you like it! #^-^# I had a lot of fun doing it, I have to do things like this more often, I think! ^^ Your hair was so much fun to draw~~ I love hair that's wavy like that... wish that mine was, but it won't stay wavy for more than a few minutes. ;__;
Sana-chansana_chan on February 27th, 2007 06:22 pm (UTC)
Aww, but I love your hair! You know... it's the same exact thing for me when I try to straighten my hair lol. It won't last for more than 10 minutes T___T

And about the apartment situation... I wish you all the luck in the world! Finding a place to live has got to be the most frustrating thing ever. richiied and I have been searching for months, and only recently we finally found something that's going to work out. It's so expensive though, moving and all. Not only do we have to pay for rent and everything at the new place once we move, but also we had to pay rent at our old place too just a week earlier >>;;; guhhh no moneyyyyyyyyyy.

But gosh... $10,000 just to move in? That's ridiculous O_o. You can buy a car with that.

Just to move into a house (not an apartment right?) for the first two months is about 10k in dollars. Just for the first couple of months of moving in and I'm assuming it's not furnish O.O. Jee willies, that's more than the housing costs in California, particulary in the OC. Geez, with 10k I could pay about a half a year to a year's worth of rent for an apartment.

2 out of 20? That's like 10%. Geez, and it takes about 5 years to become a citizen isn't it? At least that's what I heard around in some Japan guides. Maybe you could have a friend who happens to be a citizen to rent the building under his or her name, unless that is illegal over there. Hmmm, it's like modern day slavery (w/o the owning part) and the 1900s-1970s in America during that time.

That is a pretty nice drawing you got there. Did you use copic markers for the coloring?

By the way, have you watch the Oscars? I'm not sure if they preview it over there but I would thought so because of Babel...if you haven't, I recommend you to watch this youtube clip where Will Ferral/Farrel, Jack Black, and...Jack O'Reily? were performing a comedy musical skit. I think that's the title of the clip, "Comedy Musical Skit". It's pretty funny ^.^. "Fighting the nominees for best actor!"

Yeah, it was for a house. But a lot of the apartments around here can cost that much also, depending on how big they are. I'm paying more attention to the reiki and shiki from now on. :/

LOL I'll look it up tomorrow. ^^ I never have really watched the Oscars because they're too long and boring for me, but sometimes they really do have funny moments. ^^

$10,000 just to start renting a house?!? You could put down a deposit to BUY a house for that much here in New Zealand >_

I used to draw a lot but now I don't have times anymore (-__-;) (University requires too much of a time you've got) But I always have time to admire other's and that's very cute picture!

Great art as always. ;)
Don't really know what you're talking about with this "own style" stuff, nor do I see any problem with the way you've been drawing all these years I've known you(and prior). But not being able to draw myself, I guess that's something I wouldn't really understand. ^_^;

All that extra money you have to pay is crazy. @_@ Gift money, higher than month's rent deposit, and a month's rent as "pet insurance"? WTF? @_@ Crazy Japanese.

Here's to hoping that the discrimination gets banned & it becomes easier for you there. ;)

I know I am way late in my reply to your post, but you do have an amazing talent!

As a way to practice, you can probably charge friends/people to draw them as an anime character ^_^ I know I would pay ;) just an idea.
