Oh dear..... namabumanama...
For the first 8 months of my Tokyo life, I used to work for a company called NOVA. It's kind of notorious in Japan.. not only is it HUGE (biggest english conversation school in Japan), it treats employees like a huge company usually does. Some people have wonderful experiences, and some have terrible (as I did). Despite the varying opinions, I will say two things: Most people get treated like a tiny completely replaceable cog in a wheel (with Nova, true), and many employees say that NOVA stands for "NO VAcation." Also true. Nova's like a plug-and-play system-- basically anybody with half a brain (and eligibility for a work visa) can walk in, be trained for two days and work there. Anyways, I was more than glad to leave them for (somewhat) better things. Anyways.. I HATE NOVA. <-- got that out of my system! :D

Anyways.. last night, I had dinner with my longtime looooooongtime friend Ami-chan ♥ Maybe there's more to the story than that, but I won't tell. ^.~ She's been in Japan a year now, and I can hardly believe that it's been almost that long since I've seen her last. ;__; We had a good time, shopping and having dinner, then walking around and musing about the still-packed Krispy Kreme here. But we didn't want to stand outside for 2 hours waiting for doughnuts..... Man, it's been nearly a month since it opened, you'd think that they'd be less-packed by now! But unless you go early morning, there is always a several-hours-long line out in the freezing cold out front. So, no. ;__; (And besides, they don't have danishes!! What evil is this?! I just want a frickin' raspberry or lemon danish here people! Is this too much to ask? Please, Japan?)

I digress again ^_^;; The point of this post was to say that we found a NOVA usagi video game in a game center!! WTF? The NOVA usagi is this flourescent-pink bunny with a BEAK (but it IS officially a bunny..... err...). It's insanely popular here for some weird reason. Oh, and even better.... even though it's the mascot for an english school, it doesn't speak in english. It makes these weird "numanamanuma" sounds. Oh, and it's MEAN. I saw a commercial where it got really pissed off at a bus full of people and started running around screaming with red eyes. Yeeeeeeeeeeeesssssss..... great advertising for the english school. -_-;; *bangs head* But according to the NOVA orientation when I first came over here, that mascot was the #1 character in Japan for a short time. Go figure. There is no accounting for taste, really. --;;;;;; BUT I tried the game out of pure WTF-ness and it was pretty much an english test. LOL I beat all of the high scores, then gratefully left the room forever, never to return! Once was enough. ^_^;;

And in case you're not disturbed enough, I drew this the day before yesterday while the internet peoples were here putting in my new hikari-fiber internet (yay for it being cheaper!). I like it, though it disturbs me... (yay for copics though!) Luce is one of my characters that I used to RP a couple of years ago with my darling Trey. Now.... it's my last day of vacation, and I've been summoned to do some more OU artwork. So here I go! =^-^= Don't want to go back to work tomorrow! NO! Kyozetsu suru!

OSHIITISLUCE. ♥ is that mamo's blood? D:

and i remember the nova bunny. i'm sure you showed it to me before. D:
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 16th, 2007 06:58 am (UTC)
I do believe that it very well might be~♥ I signed up to play him in a multi-fandom RP, and though I don't have a lot of time for it, it's pretty fun leaving suggestive Luce-y (Lucy? wtf) comments all over the other character's journals. ♥ Oh, the days.... One day, I want to turn that story into a manga. There is so much to work with there ♥ (Any chance you want to write it for me??)

Nova bunny is scary. :O

Oh I know nova, my friend chiharu told me I should go work for them when I moved to japan. Do they pay for relocating lol?
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 16th, 2007 07:24 am (UTC)
No. ^_^; You have to pay everything yourself. The only thing they pay for you is your baggage deliver to the airport, your train ticket from the airport to your house (only if you choose company housing).

Hi hi~ Sorry to bother you with my stupid questions, feel free to ignore me if you want. ^_^

So, I was wondering, when you moved to Japan, if you already had a place to live/place to work. I'm planning on moving back to Japan (I studied there as an exchange student for 11 months last year) & am curious to know what the best way of actually getting settled there is. I think I'll be doing the JET program for a year once I graduate, but after that I don't know. Do you have any tips? ^_^;;

I'm done embarrassing myself now... Thanks~!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 16th, 2007 07:26 am (UTC)
It's okay. ^_^ Yes, I had a job (with Nova) when I came over and they helped me get settled in (okay, they didn't do anything buy pick me up from the airport and give me information, I had to settle myself in..). But if you're doing the JET program, they take care of most everything for you, so I wouldn't worry about it. ^^ The only concern is that you can't stay in Tokyo if you're in JET, which sucks. ;__;

My cousin and his wife goes to Nova. . . as a student. X_x I sat there with them for 30 min trying to make a convo with them in English and it got NO WHERE. x_x; I was all "you go to school for that?"

I would want to teach English in Japan sorta, but at the same time 99% of the schools won't want me. XD I'm too Japanese-y for their tastes. HAHA
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 16th, 2007 08:37 am (UTC)
LOL! They must have a lot of money. Nova is so expensive!! :O But actually, they cater to all levels, so your relatives are probably just in the lower levels. If they work at it, they'll get better. ^^

But you could get a muuuuuuuuch better job than teaching english in Japan! You're fluent in Japanese or close enough, so you could easily do a translating job or something even more fun. ^_^ No need to teach english when there's so much more out there, ne??

XD i've never been too sure what to think of companies such as NOVA and such.. i'm still planning on doing it if i hafta, but i dunno..

btw, did you ever e-mail me back? XD if you did, i so never got it.. *sweatdrop* my e-mail has been pretty bad with me the last few days.... I need to know what way to get in contact with you so we can hopefully hang out this saturday~! ^___^ <3~

I see that bunny all over the place... kind of strange to see it in a game, though. I work for one of the other not-quite-but-still-pretty-big English schools in the children's offshoot. Luckily, the people I work with are cool, so I'm having a pretty good experience so far.

p.s.-sent you a mymixi msg this morning ^^

It makes these weird "numanamanuma" sounds.
LOOOL :x Like 'The Sims' language?
I loved the draw ^_^
I don't want to go to school either so... well we're even u_u
Anyway good ... work? LOL***

*still has nightmares of the pink beaked bunny*

*hides behind her couch*

(sorry for the random entry ^^;...)

Lol, NOVA is becoming pretty scary to me...ugh, I don't like mascots turning red-eyed and going crazy like that. Who thought up of that kind of commericialization? XDDD
sailorstarsun: gekokujosailorstarsun on January 16th, 2007 08:20 pm (UTC)

I played the NOVA game while there....and lost. .^^;; And I was ranting to myself "how could I lose at the ENGLISH game!?!" .^^;; But of course it's because I don't know enough Japanese. ;P

haha, I remember seeing that bunny somewhere while I was in Japan over the summer. I think I'll be going for the JET program instead after I graduate.
and oh my... krispy kreme... *drools* But yeah, a two hour wait is too much, even if the doughnuts are really good!

Basicly Nova sounds like ALL KINDS of weird and not so fun. :/

I have never ever had anything from Krispy Kreme though D: I kind of want to go to one just for the sake of it.

I quite like your drawing! XD Don't be disturbed~
Chiakichiaki777 on January 17th, 2007 04:25 am (UTC)
Mmm I could sue nova for discriminatory hiring practices too, but that's beside the point. They are terrible people.

Also, mmmm blood licking hotness. XD

hahah NOVA...I never knew that it was so...not that nice ^^;;

I love their commercials though, no matter how much they have nothing to do with learning a foreign language xD;; Have you seen the one where a guy is trapped under a bunch of metal poles and cries for help to a Japanese lady? (who says she can't understand him and then goes into a NOVA classroom) lol

....a NOVA game?! WTF??!

Oh...wait...hold on a sec. I think I saw one of those in a game center when I came to visit >.> I thought, what a demented looking character, and didn't think much else about it.
