Un-invalid-ing myself ♥
Lately, I've finally come off of whatever illness I had. ^^ I feel a little weak sometimes, probably because I spent so much time in bed that I lost a lot of muscle. ^^;; But now to make up for it!! ^o^

Today, actually, I was kind of upset because I had to spend the day waiting for the guy to come and put in my new hikari-fiber internet. But he didn't come and I started to fall asleep from the boredom and then suddenly they called me at 7. 7 pm, when they were supposed to come between 1 and 3!! Oh, I was so mad at them!!! Then they're like "we just can't come today, sorry for the inconvenience. We have to reschedule." My god, if they're not going to come, can't they tell me BEFORE I waste all day waiting for them?? I've been sick for my entire vacation and there is only a week left, and now that I can go out, I have to waste it on nothing. -_-;; Mrar. They'd better not do this next time!

Lately I actually haven't been doing much. On Sunday, I met up with Nitas and her sister while they were in Tokyo, and on Monday I spent the entire day in karaoke with Chelsea. She's going to come with us to Burimyu this Friday, so that should be a lot of fun. =^__^= So, I met three really great people for the first time this week!! I think that makes this week a success! =D By the way, they have the "Hallelujah Sayonara" from Bleach myu in karaoke now, I am so amused!! It's great fun to sing, though it's so short! =D

I've been trying to take care of myself and it's really cold out, so I've spent a lot of time inside making good food and catching up on my reading. I'm currently still struggling through Switch wo Osu Toki, and making a slow way through the so-so Council Wars series. I love fantasy/sci-fi, but in the last few years I haven't read anything good!! Are all of the good sci-fi/fantasy authors dead? If anyone has any recommendations for new books, let me know! And I'm slowly making my way through .hack//infection for the second time. It's probably because I only have three PS2 games in Japan (this plus the 2 KH games.. ^^;;), lol. But I always loved that series, especially the first anime. I'm in a nostalgic anime mood recently too! ^o^ I caught up on Nana, but I really want to watch Key the Metal Idol, Maison Ikkoku, and Serial Experiments Lain again. One day I'll buy the DVDs and watch them again. ^^

Well...... it's that time again. Soon, my job will be over. In about 2 months, actually. I can renew my contract, of course, but I will be stuck in a job that I don't really care for for another year. I *could* technically leave mid-contract, but because I love and respect my employers too much, I wouldn't do that to them. It would definitely be a big mess, since the employees in the job that I do are really self-sufficient. The company arranges our schedules, but we do all of the planning and preparation from beginning to end. So I'd have to pass all of my ideas and notes on to someone in the middle of the year if I quit then, and it would be a big mess. Frankly, my notes aren't the best. So......

I'm thinking that I won't renew my contract. But that leaves the question open: What am I going to do for money? How will I live?

What I want to do is become a mangaka. But there are a lot of problems with that right now. Not limited to, but starting with that I do not have the japanese skills necessary to write stories. I am going to try to get around it with asking friends for help or hiring them in the future, but it is basically an uphill battle.

Don't mistake me. I WILL do it, and I am damn well going to do it this year. But in reality, starting a career and becoming stable by March is not very viable. So, what to do?????

My original choice was to enroll in a japanese language school and use a scholarship to pay for everything, including my living expenses. I was told that it was possible, but I think that the person that said this had their facts wrong (to put it nicely), and it's just not that easy, and mainly because I am no longer enrolled in a college. I already have a degree, and all of the scholarships are for people enrolled in a separate degree, etc. So... scrap that.

Right now, I'm still planning to go to school. Tuition to language schools for fulltime programs (3-4 hours a day/five times a week) is pretty expensive, but I have looked at a lot of schools and am currently looking into reviews to see which is the best for my money, and location is also a factor.. Most programs are in the morning, so if I do this like I want to, it will take up my mornings starting in April. And a lot of money. I'm putting aside money already, so I think that I can scrape by, and while it's a lot of money, it's one of the easiest decisions that I've ever made in my life revolving around money. This is something that I REALLY want to do...... so... here's to becoming a student again!! I'm not really looking forward to being a student again, but I do love to learn and this is going to be good, I think. Plus, it's AWESOME for my future career. ^__^

However, since I can't live off of nothing, I'm having to have a job again. I don't know what to do. Teaching is NOT for me, so I am personally dame-ing that. Plus, I don't want to work on weekends, so that does cut down a lot of options. I'm thinking of seriously looking into acting. I've never really done acting before (Nana2 does not count!), but in a way, my job every day is acting, and seriously, you don't have to be good in Japan to do it. You just have to be willing to make a fool of yourself. I'm not sure if it will be for me, but I'm going to look into it and see what can be done. Because I am a foreigner, I can probably get work. But I'm definitely looking for other options too. I'm really worried, even if I don't seem like it, but I will make it work! Somewhere in there I have to make the time for manga too, and that's where the problems are. But I believe in myself!! I can do anything, right? Somehow, it will work out, I'm sure. =^__^=

Good luck!

Best of luck to you! I'm sure you will figure out something. Acting is a lot of fun, but it's also extremely time consuming. Whenever I had shows going on I had absolutely no time for anything else lol, but it's what I love to do so... I didn't really mind.

Well, what type of Science-Fiction/Fantasy do you like? I have a lot, so I reccomend a lot (since Sci-Fi/Fantasy is my main genre of novel reading). Most of them are series, varying from 3 to 7 books, though there are some that are one book long. And also, do you like "children's" sci-fi/fantasy or are you just looking for adult novels? And in your books, do you like if it has things that could be considered real-world based, or complete sci-fi/fantasy where its nothing like earth at all, or do you not care? I'll put up a list of recc stuff later, as I'm going to be late to leave for work soon and I still need to eat. :D

Good luck though with finding a job! You can do it!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 9th, 2007 11:14 pm (UTC)
It's my main novel genre too ^____^
Mmmm, I prefer adult sci-fi/fantasy nowadays, though children's is okay too. ^^ I loooove series, as long as they're good.

Whether Earth or reality is involved doesn't really matter. ^^ I prefer heavily fantasy to pure sci-fi, though I like either if they're good. Elves are usually good reading material for me. Mmmm, to set an example, one of my alltime favorites is "Shadow" by Anne Logston. I've been looking for other books like that series, but haven't been able to find anything. I also really like the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey, the Dark Elf series by R.A. Salvatore, and the Landover series by Terry Brooks (though I hated his other stuff). Oh! Also the Psion series by Joan D. Vinge, the Miles Vorkosigan series (I forget the author atm), Petaybee and Freedom series (McCaffrey), and the Kushiel Trilogy (Jacqueline Carey).

In contrast, books that I really haven't liked included anything by Terry Pratchett, or any of the more long-winded people (I suddenly can't remember names..... too early I think, lol). But books like the Lord of the Rings bored me completely. ;__; Oh! I also LOVE ElfQuest if that makes any difference. ^^ Even though they're not novels per se.

totally unrelated...
I'm probably leaving Japan at the end of February so if you want to get your magnet and meet and stuff, it should be soon.

*too lazy to email on phone and it's 3am anyway*

Re: totally unrelated...
Leaving?? Wow!! I want to ask why, since it seems so sudden, but I'll ask in person. ^^;

I definitely want to meet up!! When do you have free time?

So go for it (acting); you have friends like Nagayan that can help you finding an acting school or something like that.
And for the mangaka job i know that you're really into it and it's only a language obstacle; i really believe that you will do it early or late, but i know you will.
Miharuru ( ミハルル)miharuru on January 9th, 2007 08:26 pm (UTC)
I think you should really concentrate in your manga :X If you write everything in hiragana and don't use kanji at all you can't publish? u-U
For the money thing you could try and make a little virtual art shop when you sell things like those book markers and stuff like that. (It's not a great idea.. but..LOL it's an idea)
But in someway if you're feeling like acting then do that XD If you really don't want to teach, there's nothing you can do about it, you don't like it then don't do it, period. There's no way you can find a part-time job in japan?
Anyway Believe in yourself and FIGTH-OO! ^^
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 9th, 2007 11:21 pm (UTC)
Kanji isn't the problem... it's that I can't write a story in japanese. I'm nowhere near fluent. I'm going to have friends help, but it's very hard still.

Acting is the only part-time job that I think I can get and would like.. really, since I can't work in japanese, I can only do things like bartending and such, but I don't want to work at those times and not on the weekend. It sounds like fun though!!

It was so much fun at karaoke on Sunday! You could totally make it in showbiz XD I have to tell my employer six months ahead of time so they have enough time to get the paperwork ready for the next teacher >< I will probably not renew, but I'm thinking of coming back after my contract is over and splitting an apartment with one of my current coworkers so I can study more, too. Good luck with everything! ^^

♥ I wish you the best of luck in the future! Although you don't like teaching anymore, maybe you can work at some business company or something. I don't want you to be poor and living off on the streets.

I know you can do it! ;o; Work hard! You can make it!
+babymoss on January 9th, 2007 09:18 pm (UTC)
Maybe you could do a bit of part time English teaching- just to make sure you earn enough to live- then you could pick when and where you work? I'm not sure if you'd be able to make much money doing that but it's an idea. You could do the acting/ modelling stuff as well alongside it~ the more work you get the less you'll have to teach. The learning Japanese and manga has to come first for your own happiness but I'm sure you can find a way out of English teaching. *believes in you*

You could make an online site selling your art work? I'm sure a loads of people would be interested in buying it. Or even use a site like Ebay. People will obviously pay a lot of money for original art work.

Hmm, I guess the problem is finding enough hours in the day to do all you want. Sorry, not much help, huh! ♥
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on January 9th, 2007 11:23 pm (UTC)
Yeah, several other people suggested selling artwork online too. I wish that I could do that, but I really don't think that I could make enough money... I'd need about $2000 a month to cover living expenses and food and live comfortably (plus my tuition at school on top of that). It just doesn't seem possible.

It's kinda "cliche" right now, but I also wish you the best of luck. I hope that you can find a job that will be satisfying and sustains you until you reach your dream. Ganbatte~ :3

Remind me to tell you what I think of Naganuma when I've been for a bit (though I'm at beginner level so it might not translate).

It's pricey, though - 200,000 per term plus books.

Ah bad picturs bad picture XDDD ...actually...that was probably the best one...
Can`t wait for Friday! And BEST song ever in Karaoke...pretty much the only one I knew 75% of the lyrics from.

I hope the everything with your career choice works out. Good luck. If it`s meant to happen it will...everything will work out in the end. It may not be clear now, but give it a month and you`ll find a solution to your problem.

Maybe you could do modeling too because, you always look so pretty!
