Happy Birthday continued~
Part 1 was here. ^-^
I love fireworks!! It's been a long time since I've done them, though I see them quite often in the sky here. But for my party, we did sparklers and other fireworks that were on these strings... you're supposed to hold them and just, uh... sparkle? LOL I'm not sure, I've never seen them before but my japanese friends were all excited to see them. ^^

Anyways, here are some of the pictures that various friends gave me from the party. ^^ As you can see, a GHOST visited us!! How lucky and fun that a ghost would want to join in the festivities! ^^

I ran around stupidly and said that I wanted to become a fairy... Well, who doesn't! ^.^

Bigger version of the above.
Ma-chan does some fireworks too!
I think this picture is really cute ^-^
Strange little hanging fireworks.
And again.....
Adrian with hot dogs. =D
Group picture 1
Group picture 2 (silly version)

And for good measure.... GHOST?!?!?!! I think my touch light is haunted!! Obviously the camera wasn't moving, so......!!!

I've been reading the manga Life (in japanese though) and today ran through vol. 5 and 6 in a hurry. It actually surprised me with it's HUGE hints of yuri later on, and I can't help but hope that it pans out (please!!). It's a little annoying to read about characters that just refuse to stand up for themselves, but later on she starts to get a backbone, and I find myself yelling at the page for the main character to do the right thing finally. Any manga that gets me so into it that I yell at the page is a good one in my book!! I should head back and buy all of the remaining volumes tonight, but I don't want to read manga all evening when I should be drawing.... ^^;;;; But I guess it's like a singer listening to music, right? Study. ^-^ And japanese study too, since I'm learning a lot of things..

ha ha. you are such a camera person. you're always posing. i think you'd make a good model, or something.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on August 7th, 2006 12:00 pm (UTC)
A lot of people tell me that... but I think that I don't put enough work into my appearance to be a model. ^^;;; I suppose that I'd do it for friends, but I don't think that I could ever do it professionally... (watch me change my mind one day... x.x)

Lol. It looks like a ray beam is trying to zap you to an alien spaceship! And sparklers are fun. Used to play with them on new years as a kid ^^

^^ nice to know you had a good birthday party~ I didn't congrat you so far (sorry~) Happy Birthday! (even when it's awful late)

I'm reading 'Life' too (in german) but so far it's only out till Volume 2 -_-'' About the yuri aspects, I already realised some sort of it in the first Volume where the main character thinks that her friend is quite cute/beautiful (if I remember right it was the first Volume...). To know that there will be more in the later Vol. makes me quite happy. We have almost no yuri as german publication =C I think the only manga that really goes in that direction and WAS published is Utena (and I don't really like that manga ^^')
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on August 7th, 2006 12:04 pm (UTC)
Volume 3 had maaaaaaajor yuri-beginning hints, in my eyes. ^^ I was quite excited reading that (Eda can attest to it)! I think that volume 5 and 6 have a lot more hints too...... though every time I think that I was right about their feelings, I get thwarted.... ^^;;;

There really isn't much out there that's actual shoujo-ai. It's too bad, too.... I see a bit of yuri, which is easy to find if you look around, but the more romantic stuff, it's pretty much nonexistant except in short stories.

*_* Okay now I'm gonna camp in front of the next bookstore till Vol. 3 comes out. (That won't be long, maybe... 2 weeks?! *lol*)

We will get a series with light yuuri the next months (I think it was november) but that's it. As for boys love they publish everything they can find o_O''' I mean, lots of it is really good stuff that was requested by fans like mad but 'Kiss' by Eiki Eiki (her first Manga) really wan't necessary (maybe sounds evil but that one really isn't that good...)
Instead they could have published something else.

(The only publisher that brings Yuuri on a regular basis is the '18+ Verlag' and they really only bring heavy stuff... and you can't get their publications in normal bookstores, only online or at the comicshop -_-)

Yay, glad to know you had a fantastic birthday! \(^_^)/

I love those sparklers~! They were a childhood staple for me - we'd play with them every Chinese New Year, and they're super fun to wave around :D

LOL, that's a strange picture alright! It'd be pretty cool if a 'ghost' really did stop by ne?

By the way, it's the Hungry Ghost Festival month, and today's the 14th lunar day, which is the peak of the festival, where people (especially shopkeepers) conduct prayers and burn offerings to the spirits :)

What's the Hungry Ghost Festival? It sounds interesting!!
r e irei_desu on August 7th, 2006 06:37 pm (UTC)
According to the chinese lunar calendar, the 7th lunar month is traditionally when ghosts are released from hell, and allowed to roam the earth for 30 days. During this time, people may appease/help the 'hungry' ghosts by offering food and incense, usually by the roadside.

Businessmen/traders usually have a more elaborate offering. The idea is to appease the ghosts in the hope that they won't 'disturb' their businesses during the month. Some even set up a special area, with huge incense burned daily and various food and fruits offered. There's a huge paper effigy of the king of hell, which will be burned on the 14th day of the 7th month, along with hell money and other items. There used to be chinese opera shows as well, but these are rare now I think.

More info here :)

This year's also special because there are TWO 7th lunar months due to a quirk in the lunar calendar. However, only the 1st month is observed.

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on August 7th, 2006 04:34 pm (UTC)
He is cuter than me, though... so to fix that, should I make him uglier or myself cuter? I'm not sure if either is possible, lol...

Maybe the ghost likes to party?

Not that this is on topic or anything, but I'm thinking of studying abroad in Japan next fall. I'd prefer the Tokyo school, but chances are I'll probably have to go to the Nagoya one (the Nagoya one only requires 3 semesters of Japanese, which I've taken, & the Tokyo one requres 5 :\)
Chiakichiaki777 on August 8th, 2006 06:55 am (UTC)
ahh california and the whole "no fireworks" law things.... I miss sparklers, they're so much fun to just fool around with. And bottle rockets too! mmmm.
