The Forest is Alive~
Congratulations to Nana for the amazing performance she did in her starring role!! Really, she did a really great job, and I'm sure that she's really proud of herself. ^-^

Last night, some friends and I went to see 森は生きている ("The Forest is Living"), a musical based on the Russian fairy tale Dvenadtsat Mesyatsev, or the "Twelve Months." It's basically a russian version of Cinderella, with the traditional element of gods and fantastic happenings. ^^

Basically, as the story goes, a spoiled brat of a princess (Marina Kuroki) offers a basket of gold to anybody who can bring her some of the elusive "Snowdrop" flowers, even though it's the dead of winter and they wouldn't grow until Spring. So a very poor widow who lives in the forest throws out her daughter (Yanagisawa Nana) to search for the flowers, even though she's doubtlessly going to freeze to death instead. But, just when she thinks that she's going to die, she comes upon the gods of the 12 months. The god of April (Mitsuyoshi Shinoda) falls in love with her and gives her a ring, which he claims that she can use to call upon him any time. I thought that here the story was a little bit weak, since he just.... well, very very love-at-first-sight. But that's how fairy tales go, isn't it? ^^; It was very sweet, at least!!! In any case, he creates Spring for her in a corner of the forest and she finds the flowers, to return them to her 'family'. While she sleeps, her ring goes missing, and in despair, she's sure that it was stolen by her 'sister' (both mom and sis are hilariously played by men!! XDXD), and Cinderella (she isn't given a name in the program booklet or in the play that I can remember, so I'll just call her that) follows them to the palace.

At the palace, an amazed, spoiled, bratty Queen demands to see for herself where the flowers have been taken from... and such goes the story. ^^ I won't spoil the ending, but I will said that it ends in a very predictable way for a fairy tale. Aloni and I both agreed that there should have been a little more romance at the end, though... it kind of reminded me of the ending of Escaflowne. I love romance!! Where is the romance?! But the friendship that blossomed between the Queen and Cinderella, who showed her mercy and compassion at the end, was really pretty. ^-^ And I did like the ending, and the story in general.

My compliments go especially to Nana, for an amazing job!! Marina, also, was believable, so while I hated her character, she did a great job playing it!! Hideaki was hilarious in his role as the Queen's tutor who tended to get left behind while making long speeches. XD;; And that deep voice? Very manly, lol!! (very different from normal, take that as you may! ^.~) Shinoda, also, made a very nice April, and the rest of the cast did a great job. ^^ Also, a shout-out to September, Hikaru! ^o^ Oh, and the animals of the forest, most played by little kids, were REALLY cute!! Especially the squirrels!

PS: Hideaki introduced us to the Tenimyu boys in the cast, yay!! LOL suddenly we became a novelty again, but it was pretty funny. ^^;; But they were all really nice. =D It was nice to see Nana and Hikaru again too! And... Manny was surprisingly there, very surprised. But I was most happy to see Hideaki again. Maybe it's stupid, but he's a great guy, I really miss him!! Go go Hide!! *personal cheering squad* I have tickets to the last show in Tokyo, this Sunday I think, so I want to bring them something....

♥ I really would like to see that. I love fairy tales. I'm a sappy person. I love fluff and sap stories and plotlines. ♥
Man. Once I go to Japan, I have to go to some musicals and concerts, just to see how it really is. ♥ you Hi-chan!

We love Marina!!
The Official Marina Kuroki USA Fanclub is still on the back burners but will eventually come to life.

I really love Marina-chan, she's such a great performer. Please keep an eye open for copies of her "Forest is living" DVD, both of her stages. I'd love to get my hands on both of them, not to mention a copy of the Rock-N-Jam musical she was in after her graduation from Sera Myu. I guess i'm one of the lucky one's since i got to meet Marina and get my program signed by her after her last day as Sailor Moon. She is just too adorable and will be a big success someday. No soft porn photo books for her!!

Go Marina!

Re: We love Marina!!
There is a DVD of Mori wa Ikiteiru (though I'm not sure when it's coming out), but there are no DVDs or recordings of the first Rock'n Jam (or the second, which she wasn't in).

I'm not a fan of hers, but I do agree that she's a really sweet person. I've met her quite a few times and she's always been really sweet. ^^

This entry ALSO comes up in google when you type Mitsuyoshi Shinoda lol.

Do you know if a DVD ever came out for this? It seems really REALLY intersting.

It wasn't as interesting as I made it sound, to be honest. ^^;;; It was mildly amusing, but not all that great.
But yes, there was a DVD released. I'm not sure how to get it, though..
