Death Note movie!

Seriously... I have not seen a movie THIS GOOD in a LONG LONG LONG TIME!!!☆☆☆

I loved the Death Note manga, but I REALLY loved the movie! Wow, I just mean... wow!!

I was a bit disappointed in the new mary-sue character until... holy crap. THEY DID IT!! THEY MADE LIGHT EVEN MORE EVIL!! I mean, wow... wow!! And the last scene.... AAAAAAH SO COOL!!

やっぱり月とLの最後の場面スゲ~ェ!!! I am seriously totally in love with this movie. I am SO going again!!! Wed. is Ladies' Day, you know!! ♥

As they told us at the end, the follow-up movie is in November. I can't wait!!!! I heard that there's going to be three parts instead of two, but I haven't seen any confirmation. At the pace that this goes though, it could definitely stretch into three movies at least. And trilogies are a very japanese thing to do... Let's hope! ^^

I thought that the new character, Saori, was a complete waste of time and couldn't figure out why they put her in, until the end. I didn't like her at all, until she DIED! At that point, I realized that by including her in, they'd made Light even MORE evil!! In the manga, he uses people freely and expresses it, but he didn't do this, which tipped the barrel. OMG! ♥ to the screenwriters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically, to explain, Saori is Light's girlfriend, from before he found the note and continuing up until today. Most of her scenes were ones where she was thrown in Misa's place, even though Misa is actually in the movie (though not a lot yet). Saori, for example, is the one on a date with Light when he's being followed on the bus. She's the one that is with Light when Naomi finds him at school and over-questions him. Since they're slightly out of order events and L doesn't meet Light until the end of the movie (SUCH a GOOD scene!!), L doesn't show up at that time.

So, really, Saori seemed so useless, a lot like that stupid Mary Sue from the PoT movie. However, noooooo!! I'm glad she was in there!! At first it seemed like she was there to make Light a little more human, a little more feeling, something which I definitely did not want!! But in the end, it was the opposite!! Even though they were dating and she was completely in love with him, Light used her in the end to kill Naomi!!!!! In an elaborate Light-style setup, he used the Death Note to stage a huge ordeal where Naomi kidnapped Saori because she believed so strongly that Light was Kira, and held her hostage. As he wrote (we find out later what he did), when Saori tried to run to him, Naomi shot her and Saori died in Light's arms as he screamed at Naomi "Why did you do this?! Why her?!?! I'll never forgive you!!" like anyone would (totally all fake on his part!!). Then, Naomi, overcome with grief, shot herself in front of the police. Light had written everything down to the exact time that Saori would die in his arms! He even kissed her as she was dying!!!!! GAH WHAT AN ACTOR!! Light!!!!! I was so impressed!! As he was sitting on the museum interior steps afterwards telling Ryuk exactly what he'd done and written, he was so much more evil-seeming than ever before!! Oh wow, I hadn't thought it was possible!!!!!!! SO COOL!!! Ryuk even said, "wow... you are a devil..". It was very impressive. This is what he used, standing on the steps. to petition his father to join the search for Kira. He said that he could never forgive Kira for causing this mess, and so he would do anything to join the team. His father agrees, and bam... who actually walks in, but L?!!?!!! Their meeting, finally!!!! He said that he was glad to have Light on the case and glad to meet him finally. L definitely knew what was going on and seems certain actually that Light is Kira, and his challenge is to hold an identical bag of chips to the one that Light had been eating in his room and eat them, standing there in the museum. It's an intense moment, to see Light and L square off like that in front of his father, the challenge unspoken between them. Wow. So very powerful, and an AMAZING ending to the movie!!! I knew the ending was coming, but literally, the whole theater erupted in loud talk as soon as the credits started rolling! I can definitely see why!!! Even now, hours later, it is still an intense theater memory, to think back on it. It was scenes like this that cause me to name it as one of the best movies that I've seen in a long, LONG time!! Far better and more intense than Nana (which I loved), and a whole separate world of amazingness from Cinepuri.

More notes:
About L: OH. MY. GOD. He was the BEST choice for L!!!! He was PERFECT, from looks down to L's every little mannerism!! And so sexy in that L sort of way!!! He had it down perfect, he must have really studied the manga to get L so right!! And wow..... even I didn't want any sugar when I walked out of this movie! L's obsession with sugar was so obvious when seeing it on the screen that it was pretty sickening. Making shishkabobs out of doughnuts was quite the trick!!

About Misa.... Her actress wasn't a good choice, looks and voice-wise. She has the right body for it, but they didn't dye her hair, so it looks completely and totally wrong. She doesn't look lolita-ish at all. Her voice also is completely wrong. It's too deep and not right for the character. However, her acting was actually really good aside from that. She seemed to have Misa's mannerisms down very well!! I only wish that she'd been able to change her voice appropriately and they had made the effort to make her hair look right. It was styled right, but if the actress hadn't wanted to dye it, then she shouldn't have been given the role. In this movie, she only finds the death note at the very end, when the shinigami saves her, but she hasn't picked it up yet. Ryuk can see the shinigami following her apparently, though, because he shows interest in her when she shows up on tv.

About Sota's character.... ROFLOL he cracked me up, he was a VERY good choice for the role. XDXD; Tenimyu fans, be proud of him! =D

About Ryuk...... NONONONO. I'm sorry, but the CG was so bad it was laughable. His voice was perfect, but the CG-lighting and animation was so bad I wanted to die. It kind of hurt. Some people might be able to laugh it off, but having studied 3D animation for three years, and seen things in class that were far better than that, it kind of was painful to watch. I hope that they improve on it. A better texture map on his skin, in specific, and better lighting and placement would be nice. And DEFINITELY a better animator (or rigger..) for his body. It was quite jerky at times. But yeah..

And the scene on the train where Light killed whatsisname. Wow, I mean, wow. YOU GO LIGHT! And the engrish in the death note they quoted was rather amusing indeed. I loved the scenes of random white foreigners dying too, it was pretty amusing. I want to volunteer to be one of the next random white foreigners to die in a scene in the movie! XD

BUT YES. SAIKOU!!! It was an amazing, intense movie! I never for a moment expected something this good when I walked into it. I want to go again, and the ONLY other movie that made me feel this way in Japan (they are so expensive!! I paid 1800 yen... x.x) is the PoT animated one. This was 7x better, at least. If not 100x.

As a side note, I was so into it that I went and bought the Red Hot Chili Peppers' new album right afterwards. I love them anyways, and now every time that I listen to the first song, I think of this movie. =D Ahhhhhhh amazing!

PS: I have given in and am watching Japan's next match in the world cup. Go Samurai Blue!! サムライブルー☆ファイト!!

That's what I'm really curious about! I've only seen him in Battle Royale, but his chara there is completely different from Raito, so I've been looking forward to seeing how he portrays Raito's personality.

I will be praying for Death Note, the movie to come out on DVD. I really would like to see it! ♥ But for the world cup, I'm still cheering for Japan, Korea, France, England and the United States (even though they suck!)!
Next soccer match for Japan will be Brazil. Hopefully, they will beat them. I pray. I really do pray!
