Fisherman!!
Today I was practicing "I want to be a _______" with some 5th graders and they kept saying "I want to be a fishman!" until I drew this picture to explain the difference. Well, then we said it many times, but the joke was understood. =D See, even if you only understand a handful of words in a language, it's still possible to make jokes if you use pictures! =D Art is the universal language!! (Or some people say laughter or math, but... =D)

Today I had this conversation, which sounds a LOT like other conversations that I've had recently with grade-school kids and/or teachers:
Kid: (looking at my sketchbook) うわぁ~!先生絵うまい!(Your drawings are so good!!)
Me: 漫画家になりたいです~ (I want to become a mangaka..)
Kid: ぜったいなれるよ!(You can totally do it, no doubt!!)
Homeroom teacher: 本当にデビューできるよ。 (You really could debut, you know.)
Me: (*blush*) ありがとう!今年デビューしたいです!(Thank you! I really want to debut this year!)

And remember how I said last month that I thought these two teachers at this school were hitting on me? Oh yeah, they definitely were!! Today I had this conversation with one of them:
Teacher: ジェイミーさん、彼氏いる? (Jamie-san, do you have a boyfriend?)
Me: No....
Teacher: あ、本当に?**先生はどう? (Really?! Then how about ***-sensei?)
(**先生 is the other teacher's name censored XD)
Me: ンンンンンン... (Ummmmm....)
Teacher: だめ? (So he's no good?)
Me: だめじゃないけど... (It's not that but....)

LOL I didn't know how to say it politely... LOL I'm not interested in dating him (even though he is cute.. he'd make a good friend, and he's really cool though! He is quitting after this year so that he can travel the world! I think I'll exchange emails with him), but he's a sweet guy. Because of this conversation, I thought that this teacher had just been playing spy for ***sensei, but later he moved his chair next to me and told the kids around me that I reminded him of Cutey Honey!! (............! LOL!!) And started chatting about how I need to see Devilman and he loves Gundam. XD;; Oh, it gets better... later, one of the girl students ran up to me and whispered that the teacher had been calling me "beautiful!" Ahh, I'm so amused. =D;;;

Enough of school stories for today! This really is my favorite school. I wish that I could go there more often instead of some of the other schools, though they're all nice in their own ways. But I just like the people at this one the best.

PS: I am 80% sure that they place they're going to be holding the practices for the next Tenimyu are on way I usually walk home from Shinjuku station. =D Oh such a small world it is, Tokyo. =D I walk past there almost every day.

PPS: 力 and 方... I always mix them up when I am trying to read something! I am not the only one who thinks they look alike, right? 入 and 人, I used to also mess up a lot, but not anymore.

Any tall buildings near it? Long time ago a poster said she's always ready with her cam to take anything happened in a place near her office XD
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 12th, 2006 07:17 am (UTC)
There are tall buildings in the same building as it, but across from it is a huuuuuuge park, so it would be hard to take pictures that were any good.

Maybe it's not the place? Did she say anything else about the location? This place definitely holds practices for things, and they had the poster outside on their bulletin board, which is why I noticed it. But it might not really be there...

This woman took picture of movie cast entering an office building.
Not sure about the park though ...

In that building, is there any lift door that directly facing the street? Like the one in DreamLive 1 rehearsal clip, where Double Eiji walked out of it?

hey i have a question~ how is it that you come in contact with all these Japanese students so much....are you like working at a school or something? my sister is going to Japan in August with the JET program [if you've heard of it, i dunno] and she's going to be teaching English in Kumamoto Prefecture....
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 12th, 2006 07:10 am (UTC)
I currently waste time by teaching in elementary schools. ^^;; Yep, I know several people who were in the JET program, though I never was. It's a good way to improve your japanese, though it sucks getting stuck out in the boonies most of the time!! (I rather like my city home! ^^)

Haha, fishman vs fisherman. X.D I love your illustrative explanation of the two, hehehe.

As for the whole thing with the sensei, you could always says, "Ima sagashitenain desu" or something to just tell them you're not looking. Or you can always use "chotto." Such a powerful word. X.D

Oooh~ Kazu chan's pretty voice just popped onto iPod. .*_* Makes me happy.

I also mix up some katakana >.<
ウ、ワ、ラ and シ, ツ and ソ, ン I still have problems with them... I takes a while before I found out which of them is the right one...
But mostly I use to forget some of them which I don't use so often, like ヌand ネ。

シ, ツ and ソ, ン

I want to be a fishman!

"don't you mean fisherman?"

No I want to be a fishman with gills and a gaping mouth that flaps *flop flop*

Awwwwww, Japanese school kids are adorable.

Have you ever been Kancho'd though? XD You might change your opinion, lol.
DAC, the curious little catboy_dac_ on June 13th, 2006 07:39 am (UTC)
LOL! I'm trying to decide which is funnier, the kids wanting to be "fishmen" or the teachers acting like school children. XD

You definitely could debut, no doubt about that! d ^_^ b

hi
I am living in Tokyo,too..I have been trying to find someone taller than me to make friends with in Tokyo and I was just thinking about the fact that I was really hopeless and in the wrong place to pursue this dream however I just came across your profile and wanted to try my chance to see if we can get to know eachother on the internet a bit..About me I am a 27 year old male, living and working in Tokyo.. I am 1.75cm..the reason why I would like to meet a lady taller taller than me is I believe that if women were phsically stronger than men, the world would be more peaceful and way safer than it is now for anyone..I dont have a man's pride..I dont really care if my partner is physically more atheletic or wants to wear high heels..I am just a very normal person without any complex and with very normal intentions..The only thing I would like is oneday to meet up with a lady who is way taller than me..I am also a bit curious and really wondering what it is really like walking with a lady who is 10 cm taller than me...hope you will respond to me soon..cheers
if you would like to write to me sometime, here is my e-mail address : julensimon@yahoo.ca

Re: hi
LOL Hello unnamed male working in Tokyo. If we have things in common, I don't mind being friends. But just so you know, I'm not interested as more than friends. So if you're looking for a girlfriend, I'm sorry to dissapoint. ^^;;
