Japan is expensive!!

Yes...... Those melons are 1280 yen..! That's roughly $12.00 a melon! I mean.... they're cantaloupes and honeydew! They sell for a few dollars in America.

I've been meaning to post about this forever.... Fruit is SO EXPENSIVE in Japan! Strawberries routinely sell for $5 for a small pack... you know, the same price that I could often buy a half a flat for in Washington! Apples and pears often cost a few dollars EACH for the cheap ones. I mean, wow.... it's so high, it's almost unimaginable... o.o;;I could buy 15 apples for a few dollars in Washington... I won't even go into the insane cost of cherries and watermelons... o.o

I am sad for my wallet! I really love fruit! ^^*

O_____O So expensive!!
I practically live off fruit.
Cherries are usually expensive at my store (well at least the more expensive fruit than the others)...so thinking about the price in Japan...*cringe*

waaaaaaah! now there's graffiti on the picture!
...damn, I should fly to Japan with a suitcase of melons to sell and my tuition would be paid!

Washington is different though! Apples and pears, strawberries and cherries (not so sure about the cherries but they're grown here in Oregon and we basically grow the same sorts of fruits) -- all can be grown there and are usually in abundance during different seasons so they get to be so cheap.

Oh! Have you had the musk melon? I've been told by my Japanese professor that it's highly prized.

EH? Maji de? I thought the yen conversion nowadays was $1 = 116 yen, or something, so I think that the melons would cost about $12, right? I dunno, I could be wrong! But still, it's so expensive!!! Maybe Japan doesn't have enough fruit farms like in America?! Oh man, I wonder how much watermelons cost there, I love watermelon D:

Damn. x_X ...Strawberries, it seems to depend, really. Usually it's whether they're in season or not, though generally I see them as an expensive fruit, compared to most. Then again, most berries are on the pricey side. I saw a 1lb thing of blueberries the other day for $6 or so. >_____< I could go and pick that many, for a third of the price!

One of the extravaganza of living in my country, for them, is making fresh fruit juice as much as they pleased. At least that's what I got from watching my sensei-tachi =). One of them even had his first avocado juice here (he said his family usually cook it as part of veggie soup).

They still cringe though whenever they see us happily eating durian >:) (how much this smelly fruit cost there?)

ahaha durian ^^
strange that there seem to be no middle ground for it. either you love it or you hate it.

Usually maybe cause it's imported?? I maybe wrong but I think it's because the earthquakes factor and farmers are unwilling to risk their crop by raising the fruit themselves unless it's for short term. That's why so any are expensive
Glenburning_batsu on June 1st, 2006 07:10 am (UTC)
I hope you mean $12.00, not $1,200 :P *assumes she forgot the decimal point*
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on June 1st, 2006 07:18 am (UTC)
Yeah, I just forgot the decimal point. ^^ It's there now! It's still WAY too expensive!

Those are really expensive ones...XD...Fruits are expensive too in my country..especially if they are not in season.

*pats your back* But I hope you enjoyed your fruits since it caused you a lot just to buy them. =)

Jeez, thats expensive. o_o Fruit here is generally cheap, though banana's are really expensive and really green right now due to a fire or something. I think i'd stop eating melon if i lived in Japan. XD

Bananas are really expensive because most of the supplies were destroyed in the cyclone that hit Queensland a few months ago, not because of a fire...just thought I let you know ^^;;
