Nana in Shibuya, Party, manga, etc. ^__^
I have been a little bit busier this weekend, which was nice. ^__^ It took my mind off of how lonely this vacation is without Miyu here to hang out with all the time. ^^;

Last Friday, I went to Shibuya to have a small going-away party with Andrew and his friends, since he's going to Canada soon (for vacation only!). ^__^ It was really fun, and I met a lot of new people! ^^ I haven't been able to see Andrew for a long time, so that was great! There weren't enough girls, Ayaka and I decided, but it was okay anyways!! I don't have enough guy friends as it is, I need more. ^__^ It was nice to get to use a little bit of japanese again too. (I still suck, but I've been studying majorly and maybe it's paying off a little bit..)

Look at the anime advertisement for Nana!! (top picture) It's on the HUGE billboard in Shibuya that's used for advertising things like Arashi and Star Wars!! Suuuuugoi Yazawa Ai!!! She's my idol. ♥

On Sat, Eda, Erin and I headed to Shibuya again.. this time to check out Kua'Aina's burger goodness! I've been there before with co-workers, and before when we went to Kamakura with Pappy. But this time was just as delicious as ever!! If anyone's in Shibuya or Kamakura, check them out! Mmmm, their avacado burgers are DELICIOUS!! I'd really been craving a hamburger for a while, too. ^^ Now I'm craving thai food (again), though! ^_^;; After lunch, we headed to karaoke for the first time in a while and I tried some Kat-Tun songs! XDXD Ooooh man I couldn't remember which one was which just by the title, so I ended up singing "She Said" and "Butterfly"...... ^____^;;;; I need to learn how to rap in japanese! And I didn't know the lyrics, but Eda said that I did pretty good anyways! =D (Aside from the rap! XD) It was my first time trying to sing Kimeru's "Honnou" and "Pleasure of Love" too!! Honnou was really hard, but Pleasure was doable! ^__^ I still wish that they'd put in "Dream Lover" though. ;_; Oh!! We sang "Koori no Emperor" and "Do Your Best" from Tenimyu too!!!! Now they just need to put "Oresama no bigi ni Boogie Woogie" into the song list and I'll die from laughing! =D

Soooo... in other news, I decided to stop by the bookstore and pick up a few new mangas, just to see what's out there that I might be missing. (mostly because I am too timid to spend so much time that it takes to read a manga in japanese for me). But surprisingly, they weren't that hard to read! Yeah, I had to marry myself to my dictionary, but it actually wasn't bad at all! If the book is easy, I can get through it quickly!! So anyways, I picked up shoujo teen stuff, because it's generally easier. I got:

Bokura ga ita ("We were there") by Obata Yuuki: The special announcement on the jacket said that this was being made into an anime coming out in July. I think that I might enjoy the anime better, since I tend to like shoujo anime a lot... but I found the anime a little bit boring, actually. I only read about 1/4 of the way through before putting it down. It's a pretty standard story, where the main girl (Nanami) starts a new school year in a new school, hoping to start a new life. When she gets placed in the same class as the hottest guy in school that it seems that everyone has a crush on, she's surprised that when she meets him, she hates him right off the bat. It's obvious that he likes her a la the same way that Domyouji liked Tsukushi in Hana Yori Dango, and he treats her the same way, by picking on her a little bit. But it's toned down a LOT, since this isn't a rich prick kid that you're dealing with. I will probably try to give it another chance, but I didn't see anything too entertaining about it.

Love Celeb by Shinjo Mayu: Ooooooh, Mayu, where do I begin with her mangas? ^^;; She also wrote Kaikan Phrase, which actually, I really liked what I read of. (I think I read up through vol. 5) This was still overly sexual, but far less Mary Sue-ish than Kaikan Phrase was... but only because it starred an actress and not a 'normal' High School girl. Basically, this bit-part actress, Kirara (slang for "virgin"), wants to get to the top. But she finds out that suddenly, she's got to sleep with this really high-up producer to get a big part! What to do?! She doesn't want to do it, but when a huge big-shot actor (who is incidentally really hot) takes a liking to her and decides to seduce her, will she give in? It's Mayu Shinjo's story, so she definitely will (and often), but I didn't read all the way to that part, just skipped around after the first chapter. Her art has REALLY improved, but this story didn't really catch me much. ^^;; I guess you can't really expect much real plot from comics that run in Sho-comi, can you? ^^;; (Sho-comi runs "sexy" comics for high school girls.. They run "Boku no imouti ni koi o suru" too, which I like, though) I would give this series a C+ if I had to rate it. ^^;

Life" by Suenobu Keiko: Finally, a manga that I finished in one sitting!! ^__^ It wasn't totally gripping, and the main character was TOO emo, but I did like it enough to finish it! I think this one is coming out in english soon, so I recommend to check it out! It's about a really co-dependent girl named Ayumu, who is trying to get into the same top school as her best friend Shi-chan. She resorts to measures like stabbing herself in the back of the hand to stay up to study! But it turns out that when she actually applies to herself, she's really good at studying! She manages to get in, but Shi-chan doesn't.... When Shi-chan, unable to cope with her jealousy at her best friend's sudden turn, whirls on her and exclaims loudly that she hates her more than anything, Ayumu is unable to cope. She turns to cutting herself on the wrists to let herself try to experience the pain that she thinks the rest of the world (mainly Shi-chan) is feeling. She thinks it will make her a nice person to go through that pain. When the new school year starts, she's all alone, but although she shuns new people, she's befriended forcefully by a sweet, outgoing girl, Manami. But it turns out that Manami isn't really a good kind of friend to have..... I recommend this series, shoujo-fans! ^^

Lalala, that's all, really. Sorry this was so long! Can anyone recommend any other good mangas? I think that I'll pick up the next volume of Life, too. ^__^ I want to see where it's going!

:D Sounds like so much fun!
I'm not much of a Nana fan, but I LOOOOVE Ai Yazawa's fashion designs. They're absolutely beautiful.

And you got to sing Kimeru songs on kareoke >_<;; Lucky you!

I agree with you about Mayu Shinjo improving.. A lot. I especially love how she drew the guys in Love Celeb. Before they looked unproportional and now they're like.. Perfect!! ::Heart::

:( I'm not much of a shoujo fan so I can't really recommend anything. I think Hot Gimmick is good but that just depends on what you like I guess. I wish someone would direct ME to a good manga once in a while >_<;; I end up reading a lot of stuff that I have no interest in, but I guess it's still good to be more open to different stuff.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 17th, 2006 03:00 am (UTC)
Ever since the beginning of my karaoke days, we've been singing Kimeru's You Got Game. =D But I'd never tried Honnou before (last summer they put in his whole new album). I noticed that his next single also goes in Karaoke on the day that it comes out! (There is a list of the songs that come out every month) So fast, lol!!

I like the style that she uses for the face and hair of the guys.. but I still think that she's got a problem with the bodies. That, or maybe she just likes really muscly guys? Because they're a little bit too stiff and too tringle-y. Does that make sense? But her drawing in general has really improved!! I can't wait to see how mine will change over the years too, doing regular mangas. ^^

I've read Hot Gimmick. ^__^ I really love that series! Well, I read up to a certain point, at least. LOL I stopped when I came to Japan. When I get my english books shipped over, I'll have to pick it back up where I left off. ^^

What kind of manga do you like? I can probably recommend some good ones in whichever genre that you like. ^^

Oresama no bigi ni Boogie Woogie WOULD be hilarious to sing! XD That song is amuuuuusing. Kat-Tun's She Said is really really catchy, huh? *__* Butterfly was cool too. XD

You should try Shinsei Doumei Cross! By Arina Tanemura. I hate a lot of shoujo series', but this one was good, from what I remember. :0! I read until the het started becoming more evident. XD

Next time I want to try Kat-Tun's "Gold" and "Harukana Yakusoku" next time. ^^ I think they'll be easier. =D

Thank you for the rec! Actually, I've already read Shinsei Doumei! =D I was a HUGE fan of Arina's work because of Fullmoon, and followed her through the beginning of this series! One of these days, I'll try to catch up on it, I only read the first 2 volumes. XD

I want to go to a karaoke place, but I fear the ones in America are not like the ones in Japan AT ALL! I still want to try it though, but first I'll need more friends who actually like karaoke XDDD I'd DIE laughing if there were any TeniMyu songs here XP

Hmm, I haven't read any good manga lately. Though I do want to catch up on some of the ones I haven't read in a while, like Death Note and Prince of Tennis XDDD Though I really like Hana-Kimi, Ouran High School Host Club, and MeruPuri. Those are much love ♥
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 17th, 2006 04:48 am (UTC)
I love Death Note and Tenipuri, of course, but I haven't read any of the others. XD Mostly because they came out in english after I moved here, though. ^^;;; I keep meaning to get around to reading them!!

Wow, what a nice billboard. XD

AHH KARAOKE! I can't WAIT to Karaoke KAT-TUN songs. I've been waiting for it for the longest time. Haha, I love singing "You Got Game" everytime I karaoked too. ^^ ....?!!! What?! They have those Tenimyu songs in karaoke now?! When I was in Japan last winter, they only had 2 songs, if I recall, from the first myu. Wow, I seriously miss karaoke a lot.

Ah, I like Love Celeb a lot, actually. I think I remember seeing Life before but didn't pick it up. I can't wait to go manga-hopping again in Japan. ;;
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 17th, 2006 04:47 am (UTC)
Last Winter they finally got a few Tenimyu songs in Karaoke!! ^__^ Since then, they've been adding more and more, but it depends on where you go too. Big Echo seems to have the most! ^^

Arashi
I'm SUCH a MatsuJun fangirl- and recently started listening to Arashi stuff. They're so talented- and easy on the eyes!

I've watched the three main series MatsuJun's been in, "Hana Yori Dango", "Gokusen", and my fave "Kimi wa Pet".

But, that's so awesome, to think that billboard had Arashi stuff, but has Nana stuff. Sugoi!

When I get out to Japan, you'll have to point me in the direction of Arashi/MatsuJun cuteness ^_^
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 17th, 2006 04:45 am (UTC)
Re: Arashi
I love MatsuJun too!! ^__^ All because I saw him in Kimi wa Petto, too. =D I think he's really talented!

That billboard must cost millions of dollars to advertise in. It's one of the busiest spots in Japan!!! o.o That's why Yazawa Ai is my idol... I aim to be as successful as her one day!! ♥ I wonder where she comes up with her ideas! I hope that one day I can meet her!!

I actually felt the same way about Bokura Ga Ita, until I read further... Now I have a sort of hate-love relationship with that manga. Because it's not actually a manga that gets stuck with them being the same age all through the manga, but actually deals with them growing up etc. But at the same time I'm sort of vexed about the character growth of the main character, but.... ah... So, I'd say it's actually pretty interesting, I think I should re-read it (though I only have up to 8 I think, 9 came out just after I left for Sweden D:)

I'd totally recommend ラブ☆コン! :D It RAWKS.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 17th, 2006 11:35 am (UTC)
I might give Bokura another try, since it's coming out as an anime and all. ^__^ And Lovecon looks really sexy! Gonna try! ^^

mmm that's a nice billboard :3

Uwoah~ that´s really great for Ai Yazawa O_____________O; *gazes at the huge advertisment*

Oh yeah ! I LOVE Shinjo Mayu ^-^ I´ve read a lot of mangas and I love 'em all!~

Well, when it´s about shoujo mangas I would recommend Legend of Basara or Hana Yori Dango, I guess :)
But there are SO many good shoujo mangas out there ;___;
Oh, I especially love Obana Miho *_* (Pochi, Andante, Kodocha, Partner, ...)
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on April 17th, 2006 11:34 am (UTC)
I hope that one day I'm as successful as Yazawa Ai! ♥

I've noticed that Shinjo Mayu's work tends to be really.. Mary Sue-ish. X.x;;; That's the only complaint that I have about her stuff. Otherwise, it's not bad. The stories can be really engaging, at least at first. ^^

I've read Hana Yori Dango... XD I think I'm the earliest fan of it, I used to love it right when the anime started airing in Japan. =D Way before it was fansubbed. XD; Basara.... the art actually scared me off.. ^^;; And I tend to like more modern things usually. I'll try something of Obana Miho's, though. ^^ Maybe I'll like the Kodocha manga better than the anime. (I couldn't stand the anime.)

OMG, such a big NANA picture in Japan! *.* Why don't we have such big pictures for a Manga/Anime in Germany? >.<
I guess there would be a huge traffic jam 'cause I would stop by just for admiring ^^;
Saa, I would like to go on reading with Paradise Kiss..

oh, shinjo mayu. i like her work ^_^ i bought kaikan phrase, which is so different from the anime (which i found quite boring, they took so many things out from it), i also like haou airen, love celeb is sitting in my comp. haven't read it yet though.

I saw 'LIFE' at 7/11 and skimmed through it...it was pretty good ^_^

Once again, the first thing that caught my sight was your pictures... I really am a sucker for photographs, aren't I? XD The angle that you took the billboard was good and he billboard itself's really pretty! I never actually read Yazawa Ai's Nana, but her drawings are nice. Not to mention her clothes design XD *luffs them* How I wish that my country has got such cool billboards as well... *wistful*

Aww!!! Karaoke in Japan!!! *envies* It's a pity Singapore doesn't have many karaoke places that have up-to-date japanese music. Worse still, the only one I know of had it's last update in Feb - and even that wasn't updated fully! *whimpers* Imagine my seeing three TeniMyu songs and the squealing that ensued, only to whimper when they weren't updated into the system! But at least I had my 'Endless Story' and 'Glamourous Sky'... Still... *drools* I wanna sing 'Koori no Emperor'!!! XD

Hnn... Manga recs. I suppose you're watching Ouran High that's airing currently at Japan? If so, you can try out the manga - it's pretty and, and there's no stress in reading it. Pure entertainment and a whole load of hilarity bound in those 7 (or is it 8?) tankoubans. Loveless isn't bad either, as is Tenshi Kinryouku (?sp). I kinda like darker mangas most of the time, and Kaori Yuki's work are a whole plane on its own~~

Yay. Pretty pictures. I haven't read Nana, but I really want to. It looks good. <3

I really don't have many manga's to reccomend to you. x_x The ones I read have tons of swearing and stuff in them. I don't know if you'd like them or not. XD
