Finished drawing~
Taku and Kyou ~ aishiteru This is the finished drawing from that picture I posted the other day.. I was trying to imitate a coloring technique that I saw in this month's Zero Sum magazine, and I think it came out perfect!! ^^ I'm not sure how the original artist did the technique, but I pulled it off the same. ^___^ Now I want to try the Loveless coloring style and some others! ^o^ I love experimenting with new things, it's so much fun!!! ^_____^

This is Taku and Kyou, who are characters of mine and Alsie's. ^__^ I want to use them for a manga, though I'm sure they'll go through a lot of revisions before that. Yeah, um, they're wearing Shinto-type robes. ^_^; Because I needed something less modern-looking, lol.

Hmm but I think I'll do a simple chibi next. ^^ The one that I really want to work on is something I need a reference shot for the background, and I forgot to take it at school this week. -_-;;; Oops. Monday, I swear!!

What do you think? Good enough to be published, or do I still have lots to work on? Mada mada dane me? My personal thoughts... I have a LOT of room to grow as an artist, but I think that I can do professional level pictures. ^^ At least Japanese professional level, lol. I really, REALLY need to work more on sequential art, but I have to confess that I'm a little afraid/daunted...I have to get over that.. but I can do it! I have faith in myself!! DE-KI-RU! =^o^=

p.s. getting over my cold, I think! Yay! ^^

Thank you! *glomps* Your comments mean a lot, you art is so gorgeous itself!! ♥

I think Loveless might be a bit hard to imitate, since I'm not sure how she does it. But I look forward to the challenge of figuring it out! ^o^

At first I thought they WERE from a manga, so I'd say they're certainly good enough if not better! :D

Thank you! ^o^

I think anyone can do what I just did. It was really, really easy!! ^__^ Sometime, I can teach you how to do it! ^__^

Looks real nice!! I like the technique a lot--gives it a really cool, natural feel!

You should post some sequential stuff! I think that always makes you get better, you know? (not that i know!) Because mangaka's works always grow so much and theres always a great difference from the first volume to the last. IM BABBLING sorry xD but! keep up the good work!!!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 4th, 2006 11:26 pm (UTC)
Sankyuu!! ^o^

Yeah, that sounds like it's a good idea!!! I'll try to work on something simple soon that's sequential! ^__^ I'm really looking forward to how my art will grow while I'm doing manga! ^^

It looks really nice although...I really don't like the coloring all that much but if that was what you were going for that it is good. ♥
Its nice...although...I don't know what the other Japanese people are looking for but its good enough although you could do better. ♥
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 4th, 2006 11:28 pm (UTC)
LOL Thank you? XD The coloring style is copied from a picture that I saw in Zero Sum this week. I wanted to see if I could pull it off, and it turned out to be pretty easy. It only took about an hour to finish the coloring! ^o^
Nayami: Shirotachibi_nasu on February 4th, 2006 03:55 pm (UTC)
Looks great! The colouring style is definitely unique, and while I don't know what style you were imitating, the result looks good.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 4th, 2006 11:28 pm (UTC)
Thank you!!! ^o^ I should post the original too to see what I was going for, but when I scanned it, it came out strange. ^^;;
Mana Dillontaijimana on February 4th, 2006 04:19 pm (UTC)
It does look very pretty but un, mada mada da ne. :p

I think you need to work on your facial proportions a bit. Both characters somehow look a little... Off. Im not sure how to describe what I mean. Umm The long haired guys face looks too flat for that angle, like his coverd up right side is longer than his left (the foreshortening). It's a very minor thing though. As for the other guy, the ear stands out alot. It appears to be the focal point of the image. I think it's a little too high on the head and maybe a bit far forward but it's a difficult thing to judge from that angle.

Sorry for posting useless advice at this stage but it's something to think about in future. I recommend drawing more real life people expecially if you want to be professional. I'd say your almost there ^^

Anyway nice job on the colouring. Good luck ^^
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 4th, 2006 11:31 pm (UTC)
Thank you for the suggestions. Yeah, Taku's face looks like that because there's more hair on that side, so it gives the illusion of more face. LOL

I sometimes draw real people, and I did a lot of figure drawing in college.. but it's kind of boring nowadays, so I don't like to do it. ^^;; That, and it's not really the style that I want to do, although I'm pretty capable of it. ^^
Rollergal: Yuyakawaii_gurl on February 4th, 2006 05:20 pm (UTC)
Awesome, Hi-chan! The coloring stands out, I like it a lot. Professionsal level, but still room for improvement, but there is ALWAYS room for improvement. No matter how good you get, you can always get better in my opinion. ^^ But yeah, you should totally try to publish something! I would love to read a manga of yours someday, or a doujinshi. >.9
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 4th, 2006 11:32 pm (UTC)
Sankyuu Val!!!! ^___^ ♥ I think that YOU'RE the one ready to make a doujinshi, not me!!!! I want to see your doujinshi!!! ♥
tea_scented on February 4th, 2006 05:39 pm (UTC)
Woah, nice~ The coloring style is really interesting and pretty.
You should give it a shot to publish your works one day! :D It seems you'll reach that professional level real soon, especially from glancing at this picture (it really does look like a cover image!). But as of now, mada mada dane... Um... sort of. ^_^;
Ooh, Loveless~ I absolutely love the illustrations from there! Good luck with trying it out!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 4th, 2006 11:34 pm (UTC)
Sankyuu ^^

I love the Loveless coloring style! I don't know that it works well with my style of art, but I definitely want to give it a try!! ♥

When you put out your first manga, I want an autographed copy. .^__^

The coloring technique reminds me a lot of Minami Ozaki's techniques. The image has a really nice texture to it. It's simple, so it highlights the smaller details, like the earrings. I'm wary of the drizzle effect on the bottom left, though. It seems to unbalance the image. I think the patch on Kyou (he's on the bottom, yeah?) might be just the tiniest bit too thick to counter the softer drizzle lines (what is the term for that technique, anyhow?) of the top right. It pulls away from the central line, which I am assuming you ment to be Taku's line of sight down to Kyou. But, besides that one composition nag (which may or may not be valid as I'm in no way an artist), I am awed.

You should definitely start working toward a short story work and send it out into the world. As for working on the sequencial shots, just go sit outside and draw a sequence of something you see. It's dry work, but it will get you into the habit of things and you can work on a skill without worrying that you're abusing characters you love.

Right, I've gone on far too long, haven't I? At any rate, it's wonderful and you really demonstrate that you've got the skills and drive to be a mangaka. Watching your progress is a joy.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 4th, 2006 11:40 pm (UTC)
Thank you for the comments!!!!! ^o^ Yeah, actually the drizzle work is an inverted photo of a tree that I took at Asakusa temple. XDXD I wasn't sure if I should put it there, but decided on it because the original picture has the hideously ugly white swirly shapes over parts of the image, and I needed some less-hideous shape to put in it. XD I don't know if I really like it either, but decided to inclue it anyways. XD

Yes, you got it right, Kyou's the one in front. ^__^

Wow, just wow. It is good enough for publishing, but we all have room for growing ^_^. I agree with sailorstarsun I want a autographed copy whenever your manga comes out XD.
