Movies.. I am so out of touch!!
O_O Oh, thank you ou_alum1990!!! *hugs* So sweet!

*In other news, I watched the second episode of the new season of The O.C. At first, it felt a lot like the season premiere and was pretty boring, but at the end it picked up and now it's the same old O.C. that I know and love!!!! ♥ I can't WAIT for more!! I can't wait for the drama that's going to happen this season, and I hope they take that BASTARD teacher DOWN!! I'm liking Marissa's character now a lot more than I ever have. She's really maturing.

I also watched The Phantom of the Opera and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, both of which I found completely and totally boring! X_x For Phantom, I actually had high hopes. I LOVE musicals. But I couldn't understand hardly anything that the main female lead said when she sang. She slurred her words SO badly!! X_x I'm also not a big fan of opera (I prefer more lively musicals), so the only parts that I really enjoyed were the more dramatic 'evil' parts involving the phantom. Maybe in the states I'll watch it again, as long as the DVD has subtitles so that I can understand what the heck she's saying. -_-;; I was really disappointed. The costumes are LOVELY, though, as is the set design! Yum.

Hitchhiker's... I think that I want to read the book. It sounds like a really interesting book, but the movie kind of bored me too. It was a crazy storyline, and I like crazy storylines and all, and the visuals for the movie were really good, but just the movie itself didn't have enough depth to keep me entertained. ^^;;

(Okay, I've been watching a lot of movies this week). I watched School of Rock the other day. It was surprisingly good, especially the very ending with the concert! I wanted to cut that part out of the avi and save it, but whomever encoded it did it in a way where I couldn't cut it. ;_; Oh well. It wasn't the best movie, but it was the best of this batch.

And yesterday, I went for horror again and watched The Ring Two, the American one. I am a HUGE fan of the first one, so I had to watch this one. It was pretty much what I expected -- lame. ^^;; Lame but decent for a horror sequel. ^^; It creeped me out, as always.

So anyways... can anyone recommend any good recent ones that I've missed?? Preferably ones that are out on dvd, but theater ones are okay, I just hate having to suffer through a cam. ^_^;; Yuuuuuck. I'm happy now that I've realized that I can really watch all of these movies that I missed by being in Japan! ^___^v

I'm not too big on movies [as you probably know XD] but I'd HIGHLY recommend "Hide & Seek" as well as "Saw". Though I'm not sure if you've seen them.. "Saw" came out on DVD about a year or so ago, and "Hide & Seek"..I'm not too sure, but I think within the past several months. Both are horror films. However, "Saw" is on the disturbing side, and is rather grotesque [I'm not sure if you like that or not]. "Hide & Seek" isn't so much of a horror, but it's creepy in ways. And both have the psychological-thriller taste to them [I love that. *-*]
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on September 17th, 2005 03:11 am (UTC)
I haven't even heard of either of them!! *hugs* Thanks!! ^^ I'm not big into gory movies, though if the plot is good enough then they're okay. ^_^ I LOVE psychological thrillers!!! ♥

Phantom of the Opera was hilariously funny though. All the heaving bosoms and the very-obvious-subtext-about *cough* >.> things...

Yeah, my sister and I had a ball with just how silly it all was. ^.^; Hitchhiker's Guide had a great opening song but eh, yeah, the book is better. I hate whashername though, Trillian, and she was a lot more of a 'caring' type of person in the movie.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on September 17th, 2005 03:13 am (UTC)
LOL Yes, heaving bosoms are a definite plus!!! =D

Yeah, I didn't like whatsername either! X_x But I have to agree, the opening song ROCKED!! So long, and thanks for the fish!!! =D

I liked POTO but of course the original stage is the best. But I saw POTO at the movie theater so maybe that helped give a better feel to it. I also had no probs understanding Christine but that may also be because I saw the musical before and own the soundtrack..so Ive heard the lyrics and score several times before.

I want to see School of Rock. When my sis was here I tried to find it in Tsutaya but I couldn't find it newhere.:/ btw, Kimeru also recommended School of Rock. He seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. His latest recommendation is Lilo and Stitch 2.

As for other movies, Im not up to date on whats showing now. But for other movies, I recommend "Kingdom of Heaven," "Ima Ai ni Yukimasu," and I saw this on the airplane, a family comedy with Will Ferrell, "Kicking and Screaming."<--he coaches a kid's soccer team.

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on September 17th, 2005 03:22 am (UTC)
Ahhh!! Kicking and Screaming, that sounds hilarious! XDXDXD

Yeah, I'm up to seeing POTO again, with subtitles.. It was my first time seeing the story at all, so while it was really easy to follow, I didn't like not being able to understand what she said. And I'm not as fond of musicals where there's virtually no dialogue that isn't sang. I'd prefer a healthy mix. ^^;

LOL Lilo and Stitch 2.. .XD That sounds like SUCH a Kimeru thing to recommend. XDXDXD I'm going to look for that one too.

I thought Phantom was very well done. Not perfect, but what film is?

Charlie and the Chocolate factory was pretty good... Much more in line with the book, unlike the 70s version.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Rent, and I'm guessing you're looking forward to the next Pirates of the Caribbean which comes out next year. Supposedly a 3rd film in the franchise is slated for release in 2007 already. Not that this helps you now, of course.

Other than Charlie, I haven't been to the theater since Phantom back in January. At least I don't remember making it to any other movies...
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on September 17th, 2005 03:29 am (UTC)
Ahhh!! I forgot about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! That is about to come out in the theaters here, and I definitely want to see it!! ♥ I read the book a long time ago, and I love the original movie, so it'll be really interesting to see the retake on it!!

Yes, I'm looking forward to Rent too! I've never seen the original, but people keep telling me that it's good. AHHHH!!! I didn't know that the PotC sequel is coming out so soon!! o.o *goes to find the website* I'm so out of it, I never am able to watch the trailers at the theaters, and no tv commercials either, so it's so hard to keep up.

School of Rock was better then I thought it was going to be. I loved the end when they were performing.
I heard Amityville Horror (sp?)was kind of good. It's about a family who bought and is living in a haunted house, based on a true story supposely.
Omegalildevilyouko on September 17th, 2005 03:11 am (UTC)
and "Hide and Seek"
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on September 17th, 2005 03:35 am (UTC)
Is Amityville Horror a remake? I've seen the original, which is reeeeeeeeaaaalllllly old.
Kei: sparkle sparkleaoi_tenshi on September 17th, 2005 05:27 am (UTC)
Amityville is a remake and it's not really that good...I only got scared at two points I think and if I don't really get scared then it's not all that scary XP I heard "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" is pretty scary if you're getting movies off torrent and looking for something on the horror side ^.^;;
Omegalildevilyouko on September 17th, 2005 11:47 am (UTC)
Emily Rose is on torrent already? O.o Man, people work fast. XD
Kei: sparkle sparkleaoi_tenshi on September 17th, 2005 03:06 pm (UTC)
XD of course it is(I double checked to make sure too)! Give any big movie like a week and there'll be a torrent for it =D
Omegalildevilyouko on September 17th, 2005 07:16 pm (UTC)
True True. I went to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith 1 or 2 days after it came out and the next or the day after I looked on mininova and there it was Mr. and Mrs. Smith on torrent. Subbed and everything. XD

*hugs back* you are very welcome hi-chan! ^__^ I was reading your earlier posts and decided to help you out by giving you a little anniversary present to celebrate your first year living in Japan. I have learned a lot about Japanese culture by reading them. ^0^

I liked Phantom of the Opera, but I think it's also because I hadn't seen the stage version of it, but I agree about Christine's singing...a lot of the time I couldn't really understand it =/

Also wah I don't really have anything to recommend 'cept for Corpse Bride in general theaters, but that's not even out yet here (but I'm gonna see it Monday *dances*) XD wah all my friends like Hitchhiker's but most of them read the book first, as well as the whole sci-fi thing...I sitll haven't seen it yet myself so I can't say for myself XP Aaaah yea...so sorry no movie recommendations from me, 'cept Corpse Bride, buuuuut =/ yea that'd be like suffering through a camera >.< Good luck with finding more movies to watch tho =O

Think of me, think of me fondly, when we've said goodbye.
Remember me once in a while, please promise me you'll try.
When you find that once again you long to take your heart back and be free,
If you ever find a moment, spare a thought for me...
We never said our love was evergreen, or as unchanging as the sea
but if you can still remember, stop and think of me...

Well, those are some of the lyrics to the song she sings on opening night for that first opera she does. ^-^

awww...you didn't like POTO? I thought it was a really good movie and very beautifully filmed. It exceeded my expectations of it since I wasn't expecting too much since they kind of messed up Evita last time. I definitely say give it another chance.
Chiakichiaki777 on September 17th, 2005 06:34 am (UTC)
aww you didn't like Hitch Hiker's? Well, the ending was very "meh" but the opening part for me was precious....
tsubon on September 17th, 2005 08:51 am (UTC)
For Phantom, I was bored like five minutes into it... -_-;; I like the real musical Andrew Lloyd Webber's version better. And the book. The cinematography and costumes, were the only redeeming quality.

As for movies to recommend...er, out on DVD I'm not sure...I only know there's The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler, coming out next week. It was pretty funny, too. As for recent movies I've seen, there's Wedding Crashers, and The 40-Year Old Virgin. The latter was really funny to me. I was hurting after the moving from laughing too much. It was funny in a smart way, but there were also parts that were funny in a stupid way.

I think I'm more anxious about the movies that are about to come out. RENT is one that I'm waiting for. There's also Tim Burton's Corpse Bride! I love anything by Tim Burton, and the previews I've seen look pretty good. A lot of the movies that look really good arn't coming out until December. Like Memoirs of a Geisha</a>. I liked the book a lot, so, I'd like to see how they'd do with a movie. It still bothers me that half the cast is Chinese (even if it is Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi). There's also Chronicles of Narnia and Brokeback Mountain. Sooo many movies to see!

The Phantom of the Opera: Sucked, which was really disappointing, b/c I had high hopes for it, too. *le sigh* I really like the actor who plays Raoul; I was hoping this would be his big break.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Loooooooved it. Blew me out of the water. No, really. Soooo good. ^^ I was a big fan of the books tho.

School of Rock: A really fun movie. ^^ Definitely surprised by the non-B-ness of it. :D

The Ring Two: Lame is the perfect way to describe it. Only good part was the deer attacking the car, and the CGI sucked on that.

Hee, you saw my movie post. ^^
