Earthquake in Japan!
Today there was an earthquake centered in the Kanto/Tokyo region. A level 6 on the richter scale, according to the news. I'll never cease to be amazed (and apparently my japanese friends think so too) by how earthquakes don't faze me. They're fun, actually. ^^.. And I know they're dangerous, but they're just.. so interesting!

This was the first time that I have been outside when one happened. My friends and I were in the Kamakura area being tourists (fairly near the epicenter), when the ground started to shake. And kept on shaking. Most of the people around just stopped walking, and Pappy made us (particularily me who was standing next to a giant glass window and didn't think about it ^^;;) stand away from the buildings and near the street. Wow, the trees lining the street were waving really strongly. The lights in the building were waving too.

I wonder how much damage there was. I haven't heard any reports on that. But after that we went back to sightseeing and didn't really think about it until we wanted to go home and there were HUGE delays in the train lines. ^^;; We're all fine, so don't worry! ^.^ More on the Kamakura trip in the next post! ^^

yeah, the earthquake was the strongest and longest Ive experienced so far. Yeah, funny..i shouldve known better than to stand next to a glass window and those tall bldgs. I totally wasn't thinking. Just not used to the little shakers getting any worse than a little jiggle for a few seconds...so that kinda stuff never crosses my mind.

They said it lasted 20 seconds.
it's the first time I was not going around screaming or being deadly scared but I didn't like it at all^^
The epicenter was near us???
They said they closed Narita too for some hours amd my train took soo long to arrive at the station >_

Not really, the epicenter was in Chiba.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 23rd, 2005 02:30 pm (UTC)
Chiba's pretty close, though, isn't it? Relatively of course.

My japanese friend said we were pretty close..but it seems that here in Tokyo it was stronger.
maybe we really didn't realize it because we were in the middle of the street...

That's so weird..... didn't some report on what would happen to Tokyo if a big earthquake hit come out just yesterday?
Anyway, glad you are safe.

Are you busy Wednesday or Saturday? I am going to be in Tokyo then and would love to meet you again. :)

Great! How about Saturday? I think I will be trying to run a bunch of errands on Wednesday before Soul Sonic.
I should ask dilettantka if she's free too.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on July 25th, 2005 01:56 pm (UTC)
I might have plans for that night, but I don't know at the moment. But my day is definitely free on Sat!! ^^

I think that Eda might have training on Sat.. but definitely ask her!!

I'll be leaving Saturday night, so I'll only be free until around 4 anyway. I will check with Eda and see. :)

We had a few earthquakes going on back in May and I felt so oblivious to them lol. Glad to see that you and your friends are all okay, though ^_^.

By the way... was shopping at Costco and I remember you saying you missed eating Jolly Ranchers so I bought you a 5lb bag of them =). I know it's not much... but just a little thanks for all the trouble you went through to get us all tickets.

No problem!! I was really shocked to learn they didn't sell them in Japan... so we had to get them for you. Hopefully they'll last you a while ^_^ it's a pretty big bag hehe.
