domain names??
Yatta! ^__^

So, I finally got my bank account working! And this means that I can do what I've been wanting to do for a LONG time-- get my own domain!! Yatta!! =^__^=

Can anyone help me out and suggest domain names??
I don't know what to pick!!

Possible choices included
I don't know what else. I don't really like hinoai.com (don't know why!), and while I adore the other one, I want something that can really be for whatever I want, not just hxh.

Does anyone have any suggestions? *braindead*

technically .com is just as easy to get as .net, it's just that .com normally is the first to go because it's the more commonly used of the three main extensions: .com, .net, and .org. When you think of websites, normally .com is the first extension that pops in your head, so that's what companies use because they want you to remember their URL ^^v

No company can really "reserve" a name: it's first come, first serve. For instance, I have the domain name fiyaa.com. It's mine, even if a company called "Fiyaa" surfaces, they have no rights to my domain name, because my name is on the DNS information. Companies tend to try to buy out a domain name from an owner if they're not the first to get it though.

and wow I apologize for letting my web geek surface. *buries self*

I know, but sometimes a lot of companies already have sites set, but they don't upload anything until years, but mainly just months, later, so that's why I said it's often "reserved".

But, like you said, if a company decide to outwit your domain, they can out bid you and take away our domain name for themselves, so that's why .Net is less dangerous than .Com.

But of course, you probably know a lot more than I do.

They can't actually take it from you once you own it, they'll just contact you and try to buy it from you if they want it. Microsoft tried to take over the website "mikerowesoft.com" because they felt it was a copyright infridgement, even though it was some guy's name. (Article). In the end, they couldn't actually take it from him: they had to strike a deal :)

You're right about reserves: a lot of domain names are taken even though they're not in use. Ponta.org is taken, even though the website doesn't exist ^^ (this used to be mine, I never renewed it XD;;) It's what happens when anyone can get a domain name :)

I know no more than what my website books tell me XD;;;; it's hopefully going to be my major ^^:;;;
