Ume Matsuri~!
Me, Eda, and Ko under the plum blossoms Let's get our culture on! That's become the reigning cheer for us recently. After all, this is Japan, and yet somehow strangely, we haven't done much in the way of japanese culture. Unless you count seeing Tenimyu, Tenimyu-related musicals, and beautiful boy singers/bands live? I guess it really is a japanese culture thing. XD

So, in honor of being IN Japan, we (Erin, Eda, Ko, and I) trekked over to the Ume Matsuri (Plum festival) in Mito on Sunday. Mito is a LONG train ride away. A LONG LONG train ride. But we amused ourselves on the train, and it was of course empty enough that we all got seats no problem! =^__^= Beautiful! We had fun, even though it was pretty early! I left superlate and somehow beat Eda to Ueno (where we were meeting to get on the train to the ume matsuri) by like, 30 seconds! XDD It was a fun, text-messaging war right before that. XD I love my cell phone! <3

It was beautiful, and friggin' cold!!!!! We entertained ourselves by trying different foods (I tried some I'd never had, like honey-covered dango and some other things) and by shopping and then peering at the beautiful trees! There were supposed to be a lot of blossoms I think, but it was so cold that most of them weren't out yet. ^^;;;

We decided to take pictures of ourselves underneath one of the trees, and suddenly TONS of japanese guys wanted our picture! O_o..... we shoulda charged, because we were there for like, 10 minutes! X_x;;;;;;;... ....... ...... Will we end up on a porn site? XD

I will finish up the rest of the post with pictures. ^__^ Because I suck at summaries and I'm in a hurry today! XD

What are the wooden tablets for?
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on March 8th, 2005 01:40 am (UTC)
They're little things that people wrote their wishes on. If you hang it up, it's supposed to give you good luck on that thing. ^_^ Some of them were for school and stuff like that. ^^

So pretty! :D What exactly is that dog statue? It's neat looking. Same goes for that tree [10th pic from the bottom]. XD It's cool!

Honey covered dango sounds SO GOOD.

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on March 8th, 2005 01:50 am (UTC)
Actually, I didn't really like the dango. ^^;;

But the tree, hmm.. I think it's just a traditional japanese tree? ^^ It's really cool, in any case! I'm not sure of the exact breed! ^^

Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on March 8th, 2005 02:17 am (UTC)
It's not Sakura, it's ume. ^_^ But they look a lot alike. It's a little too early for the Sakura trees yet. ^^

looks like it was WAY better than the Phoenix Matsuri Festival (Festival Festival? um >.< argh!) I love the pictures, especially the bamboo and the lady in the gold with the sash. Can I use her in a photoshop art collage that Im working on?
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on March 8th, 2005 10:48 am (UTC)
Sure, go ahead. ^^

Well, considering that it's a japanese festival in its native country, I'm sure that it'd be a bit different. XD

Waaaah Mito has to be a wonderful place..and I'm shocked to see flowers already blooming...
I've never been there during this period but people say it's the best period (well probably when the weather is not so cold)
the thing I'm seeing in the pic with the steps on the side of the steps is..snow???
If you want to go somewhere to visit something cultural I suggest Kamakura (I'm in love with that pretty place)
I would suggest you also Nara (but it's definitely too far ._.)
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on March 8th, 2005 09:12 pm (UTC)
Yep, it's snow. It was REALLY cold. ^^;; *hates cold*

I'd like to go to Kamakura soon. ^_^ When I have lots more monies. =D

taishitaishi on March 8th, 2005 04:27 pm (UTC)
I sooooooooooo want to go to that spot while I am there in May!

That looks so pretty.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on March 8th, 2005 09:15 pm (UTC)
It will be closed, unfortunately. ^^;; I think that it's only open while the festival is going on, and that's all. ^^;;;

I can take you to prettier places that don't take 3 hours to get to. ^^;;
