ミュージカル テニスの王子様 in winter 2004-2005: side 山吹

Here is my Prince of Tennis in Winter: Yamabuki musical report, finally. ^_^ I'm still a bit tired, so I hope that this is coherent enough. It was... wow. Can I say fantastic and not sound like a total dork? Well, 'fantastic' is honestly the best word for it! =D

First off.... support the new cast!! I can't stress this enough!! They're GOOD!! In fact, they're GOOD COMBINATION and have GOOD RELATIONSHIP! (they even said so! Well, the golden pair did!) I love the old cast, and like a lot of people out there, feel very fond of them, but as soon as this musical underway, I knew they'd chosen right with this replacement cast. Backed by the cute and suddenly much more confident Endo, they were definitely diamonds. Not to mention cute! And believe me, being in the second row, I could tell~!

I seriously cannot believe how lucky I was to get second row tickets! I didn't do anything special to get them~ just bought them from Lawson's with the L-code when they first went on sale! Our seats were good. So good that I saw things that a lot of people won't get to see... which I want to share first~!

Kenn wears boxers! Or nothing at all! He didn't have any pantylines! Not that I was staring or looking for such a thing~! No, not me, neee~ver! Kawakubo doesn't have any pantylines either, but he didn't do a lot of bending over with his butt in my direction, so I wasn't too sure on him. It would make me feel (a little) dirty to stare at him, since he's supposedly only 13 (I don't believe the website.. he just can't be! O_O). Shinoda soooo wears briefs. I think! He had a definite panty line, and he spends a LOT of time on the side of stage I was on with his butt in the air. (more on that later) Horio~ believe me, I was looking, and he's a boxers man. I was so close (less than 6 feet from the actors if they stood close to the edge of the stage), so it was great to be able to tell that Endo was breaking out, but had tons of makeup on to cover it up. XD~~ Sorry Endo for passing on that information! But I am ever grateful for the makeup on the boys~~! Makeup is a GOOD thing!

-->by the way, dilettantka also wrote an awesome review here, so please check it out. ^^ Even though I'm willing to bet that we wrote a lot of the same things. =D;; And I bet she wrote a better summary since I'm pretty random.

On to the musical. BOOM! I wasn't sure I would leave there without ear damage, but I got used to sitting right next to the giant speakers quickly. At first, Fuji (omg he has a high voice!) and Eiji gave me a little bit of a ringing in my ears, but it was okay. ^_^ Forgive me, for I can't remember everything and I didn't take any notes (like a lot of people were doing) The whole myu started with a skeery smokescreen scene of Akutsu who was fighting random stagehands. Okay. Akutsu, AKA Juri, is really, REALLY good. He gave me goosebumps. He made me jump. He also beat up on Horio and Ryoma.. instant love! If you beat up on my favorite characters, it's almost always love in my book. ^^;; Don't ask. I just like to torture my favorite boys. ^_^;

Then of course Seigaku gets their 'hey let's all sing one by one' song! It wasn't really as good as "This is the Prince of Tennis," which is my favorite intro song. XD; But it was good, and the new actors really really sound a lot like the original cast. They all had a LOT of personality as the characters, even the characters who don't have a lot of personality *coughs*Oishi*cough* shone. The song features engrish, my favorite component in any Prince of Tennis song. Something along the lines of, "We running foreeeeevaa!"

My two favorite new additions to the Seigaku cast have to be Araki as Inui, and Kaji as Momo. O.M.G. Kaji can dance. And Araki can sure wiggle his butt! More on them later. I know I'm random, sorry ^^;;

The next scene was oh-so-beautiful~! The ichinensei are lugging around a cart full of tennis balls, and of course Akutsu decides to lurk around the back entrance. So when they smell smoke, Horio with his beautiful two years drug-free experience decides to let Akutsu know who's boss! Boss is apparently Akutsu, since even though he authoritatively refers to Akutsu as Chibisuke because Seigaku can't lose, he still gets his ass kicked, and hides underneath the shopping cart full of balls! It's quite amusing, since he was cowering very close to me and his facial expressions were hilarious! XD; Then Akutsu chucks a ball at Katsuo, and Kachiro oh-so-helpfully shouts out, "Fifteen-love!!" Oh man... I died! So did the entire audience! Kachiro is love! Ryoma comes to the rescue and Akutsu replays the anime, chucking rocks at him until lhe's made Ryoma kneel, all cute and bleedy. Mmmm... huh, did I say something?

I LOVED seeing pouty pissy Ryoma after that, during Akutsu's dark little solo. He was in the locker room being fussed over by Oishii and Momo (I think) in the background, bathed in red light, and he threw a silent temper tantrum and stormed off stage. LOVE. Endo was amazing this time. I think he was ready for the spotlight again!

Blah blah blah.. matches happen, and the Golden Pair get a new song~~ GOOD COMBINATION! It's not as the Fudomine Golden Pair song, but it's cute and dancy and very golden-pair-flavor. ^_^ So it gets a + mark. Especially the engrish.

Kenn gets a song, which is alright. He has such a beautiful voice, but honestly I was staring at his butt during the song more than anything. ^^;;;; uhhh... right.

I LOVED the Endo/Kenn duet.. or rather, duet where Ryoma sang and Yuuta just acted, but I can't help love the two of them standing next to each other all deliciously like that! ~☆ Uhh, I think it was the same one as the Rudolph musical. =D Eda said so, but I haven't listened to that one so many times, and I tend to forget ^.^;;

OMG............... and the new Momo..!!! I luff you! He got, in my opinion, what had to be the best solo (notice I say solo, because the best is still to come but it is not a solo) in the whole musical. Oh. My. God. Momo sung loudly with occasional engrish, fell down on stage, jumped around, and just basically acted really over-the-top. He was so talented! I was laughing so hard! It was beautiful! (but not as beautiful as later)

Shinoda is luv! Duck-boy was pretty boring in the series, but I love him in here! There is one part during a match where he freezes (as happens a lot, just like in the anime), and he's got his hand held out near his but little a little duck tail!" Gaaaah, so cute! XDDDD And then Kaidoh makes fun of him at the net and is like, "urusai, ahiru!!" He's like, "wtf? Duck, why are you calling me a duck?" while his teammates are posing as the parts of a duck in the background! XDDDDDDD Ken is the head, and uhh.. can't remember who is who, but it's hilarious! XD

Oh man, and another Ryoma moment that I liked was when it started to rain, and the Ryoma/Fuji match was cancelled. Ryoma started whining that he wanted to keep playing, at which point Inui grabs his ear and says no way to Ryoma's whining. XD;; I love you Inui too!
Ryoma: "But, I wanna...."
Inui: "No." ::tugs::
Ryoma: "But, I..."
Iuni: "No." ::tugs::

I LOVE how they handled Drive B. Endo runs forward taking little steps near the end and crouching down, and then jumps VERY MUCH like Ryoma does, smashing the 'ball' upward with dramatic music and green lights. Beautifully done <3

Lalala, intermission~! There was a really cute opening scene in the second act about Yuuta on the phone with Fuji. His teammates are like "is that a giiiiiiir~~l?" I was just happy because it was really easy for me to understand. Probably because I read so much shoujo, I know the language of love. XD;; Anyways, Inui got an homage paid to him by Akazawa, who gave Kaneda some of his special "Akazawa" juice. It was red, of course. XDDD;; Kaneda was like "hey, it's not so bad! ::collapses::" Too cute. XD He did a faceplant right onto the stage. I wonder if his nose hurts. XD;;

Then there's a scene with Taka and Akutsu in the cafe... but it's after it that the best part of the musical happens. The ichinensei come out wearing WAITRESS OUTFITS!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFLOL. Hot pink apron-skirts and little white frilly hat-thingies! OMG! ::dies:: I died. The whole audience cracked up! They did a cute ichinensei-typical dance, taking off the accessories one by one, and Horio seemed to have a bit of trouble! XD I was laughing SO HARD! They're SHAMELESS!!! I LOVE THEM! HORIOOOO! The Ichinensei are so much love, you cannot deny it! Oh my god. They could only top this if Ryoma was the one dancing in a pink skirt. Doing a duet with Akutsu who was also wearing one. Pink skirt.. pink skirts!!!

~The Ryoma-Dan interaction after this is so cute!!! ADORABLE! I LOVE DAN! I LOVE RYOMA AND DAN TOGETHER!~ *ahem* Anyways, back to the crack..

Okay, and they don't lose the crack after the ichinensei. If you doubt that Tenipuri anything can make fun of itself, then this had better answer your question. The golden pair comes up to play Yamabuki's random pair, who get all of like... 2 lines in the series, if that. When they're announced, there is this weird gonging sound, and that side of the stage goes dark. Eiji's all like, "Ehh? I can't see!" That's because the next song has to be one of the most unexpected, most amusing songs (though nothing can beat PINK waitress outfits), in the myus! "Oretachi wa JIMI-SU!" A 'jimmy' is kind of like those side characters who are all interchangeable and never get any screentime. Well, they get a lot here, because they sing about it! XD;; And while they're singing with this very slutty lounge-style act (and doing very well I might add!), the other characters in the background keep stealing their attention and they have to steal it back! The most amusing ones were Momo and Ryoma imitating their latin step on the bleachers by stepping up and down, snapping their fingers and swaggering their hips. XD

The matches end with a nice violent little Akutsu x Ryoma match which had me rather happy. Ooooooh, drive A! Love. Echizen, I love you!

There was no encore, which makes me sad. T_T No amazing smashy song, though there were some cute bows! As usual, some of the cast fell to their knees and crouched down to wave to the last minute as the curtain was falling. Endo imitated tsubame gaeshi. XD Then when the curtain raised again, Endo(Ryoma) was wearing Shirota's(Tezuka) glasses and Shirota was wearing Endo's hat! (Endo had such hat hair! XD) It was hilarious! People started laughing, and they're like.. what's wrong? They switch, and Endo take charge, saying a few words before having everyone take their final bow~ <3

Crack, it was pure crack, this musical, and I loved it. Unlike the last one, where everyone was bawling their eyes out at the end, at this one it was very lighthearted and celebratory at the end. It was a big rush as always, and oh-so-beautiful and cracky! The new cast is amazingly talented, and they even seem to act a bit like the old actorrs in the parts. They're all pretty good singers too. =^__^= And Endo is now their sempai. XD;;

We did try to go to demachi, but the entrance was hard to find, and it turned out that the cast exited from the other side of the building. ^^;; We were sad, but there is always tonight! =^_^= I really want to otsukaresama the new cast, because they really did to an amazing job! ~<3

PS- omg I bought so much merchandise. All of the photo sets from this one and the last one.. ::dies:: but... I got signed signature boards with the entire cast from this Myu. That in itself was love. Plus the special photos from the last one. Mmm, and naked Da-da-dan pictures. Can't go wrong there! Well, uh, if you forget how old he isn't, that is. o.o Okay, must sleep now~!
