日本はへんだ -- Japan is weird
A certain someone's livejournal post reminded me of all the weird things that I've done/seen in Japan.

So, here I present to you the strangest things I've eaten in three months in Japan, and the weirdest things I've seen!: Enjoy! :D

Strange things I've eaten:

-Bukkake Ice cream. It was sea-green, and salty..... I kid you not. Salty. Had it in Akihabara.
-Rooster ball yakitori. I think.... It tasted like what I think rooster balls should taste like. Wasn't really all that great.. >.>
-Chicken skin yakitori. As in, pieces of chicken skin crumpled up and fried and stuck on a stick.. Err..
-Horse meat sashimi. Yes.. meaning cold pieces of raw horse meat... Strangely enough, my first reaction was, 'wow, that's pretty good!' O.o Even I don't get me. It was slightly spicy, mmm.. I would have it again.
-Seafood pizza. Okay, this isn't as strange, but I'd never heard of it until I came to Japan. It's GOOD! Mmm, shrimp..
-Some kind of fish that had the head still attached. Yum, though. o.o
-Little mini octopii on a stick. The whole thing. Also good.

Things I want to eat soon:

-Blowfish. I've heard it's soooo good. And potentially deadly. But we'll ignore the deadly part.
-Natto. I know it looks gross, but I want to form my own opinion. o.o

Any weird foods that you can get in Tokyo that you'd recommend I try? I'll try almost anything. (food is one of my passions).

Some weird things that I've seen here:

-I forgot to write about this the other day, but I saw a pair of girls in costume in Shibuya. One was wearing a full body hamster costume (not sexy or anything.... it was like a giant kid's costume), and the other a white/brown cat.
-Last week I saw a girl on the train wearing a pikachu costume.. also full-body kid's style. o.o
-The other week in Shibuya, I saw a group of asian women wearing different-colored Afro wigs. o.o
-A cute petite girl in a VERY pink gothic lolita dress, in Shibuya station. It was CUTE!
-Porn shops that advertise drugs... Actually, literally 'drug'
-A shop in ikebukuro where you can pay to pet puppies and kitties. =D Animal whores! ^_^;;
-Chocolate candy named "Asse"
-Many old women with purple hair.

That's all I can think of right now. I'lll add if I can think of any more! =^__^=

...Pay to pet animals. Animal whores. That is the best thing ever.

..................Rooster balls? I think I'd starve in japan. ._.

It was in this yakitori sampler that I shared with dilettantka and ee970 one night in Shinjuku. =D I wouldn't have tried it, only... >.>; Give me a strange food I've never had before, and it's almost always irresistable. (even if I know I'll regret it later) I have to try, it's like food has this mystic hold over me. O_O I wonder how in the world I've never gotten fat.. X_xsdggfhghjhfhd.

Mmm, you're forgetting the good things about japanese food. =D They're crazy about curry, and ramen. <3 And nomg Okonomiyaki!! Yummm!! And decorer pocky... that's what it's all about I kid you not! And salmon rice balls.. mmmm..

Natto is so horrible >.< The first bite you think, "Maybe this isn't so bad," but the second bite you realize it really really is.

They sell it in little cups at the konbini, you should pick one up and try it.

Haha! The strangest animal costume related thing I saw was two EGL's in Shinjuku walking arm in arm with an adult man in a hamster outfit.

and natto is least harmful in makizushi form.

I've also heard in Japan they sell squid ink ice cream. It's black and everything.

You should ask doommuffin_chan about crazy foods in Japan. She's had a lot of them.

All this funky food is kinda making me not want to go to Japan. But I know I can get other food.
What is "bukkake"? Seaweed? Sea water?

Do you have any pictures of these people? X3

If you don't know what it is, you probably don't want to. Personally? Would not try it...that's...frightening that such a flavor even exists.

I hear that Natto is disgusting myself lol..I'm allergic to soy beans so I can't try it myself...but...yeah. Be sure to tell how you hate/like it :0
kireirociel on December 7th, 2004 08:41 am (UTC)
Oh God... Natto. I can't stand it. I tried it the first time I was in Japan and blergh. The second time I was in Japan, I was very polite if I didn't like a food. I'd say "BLAH wa chotto..." trailing off and they'd get the message. When they offered Natto it was straight out "Sumimasen demo... Natto ga suki dewa arimasen!" x_x

The only thing I hate more than Natto is Yakult...
Devik Kyrndevikkyrn on December 7th, 2004 06:57 pm (UTC)
yakult... you mean the health drinks? hehe actually i have a friend who's going to work there next april, after he graduates (they make anti-cancer drugs as well)

That paying to pet kitties and puppies thing actually sounds like a really good idea.

I had BBQ chicken pizza when I was in Japan that was pretty good. (Japanese will put all kinds of random things on pizza...)

Also, Kareeudon (Curry udon) is so. so. yummy.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on December 7th, 2004 02:55 pm (UTC)
Mmm yes, I love Curry Udon. XD

LOL Barbecue chicken pizza? Weird? XDDDDDD I used to have that all the time back in the states... so yum!! <333 I haven't seen it here yet.

from what i've heard, those old ladies with purple hair are actually dye jobs gone awry. Like, they were trying to get their grey hair to look dark again and.... oops!
aionwatha_aionwatha_ on December 7th, 2004 09:38 am (UTC)
old women still dye their hair bright purple?

i would have thought the fashion would have changed by now. it -has- been 4 years.. =>_>;;=

OMG!!!! That totally rocks!!! <33
Chiakichiaki777 on December 7th, 2004 04:17 pm (UTC)
Hmm let's see...

Nattou is an aquired taste. I used to hate it, but after being forced to eat it for a good few years as a breakfast food, I find it tastes ok. Especially when you don't want anything big or over stuffing for breakfast.

You should try to eat frog. Tastes like chicken.

I'm also going to just say.... http://www.livejournal.com/users/chiaki777/6942.html#cutid1

There just strange things in Japan... it will never change. The goths are so cute over there. ^_^
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on December 8th, 2004 02:19 am (UTC)
I've had frog before. =^___^= It does taste like chicken, only a bit fishy and sooooooooooo tender!! <333 I loved it! <3
(Anonymous) on December 7th, 2004 05:09 pm (UTC)
yummy!
Ahh, delicious foods... your list has made me drool. Oh, and I, too, am quite a fan of horse meat sashimi. Good stuff.

Fugu is okay, but don't get your hopes up too much. It's got a rather bland flavor. Have you had triggerfish? It's somewhat similar to me.

Better yet, let's go out and try to eat all of the weird foods we can when you get here! <33

OH!!!! And where did you stay while you were in Japan? I'm looking for a new place near Shinjuku. =^_^=
Devik Kyrndevikkyrn on December 7th, 2004 07:02 pm (UTC)
