Engrish students
I hear amusing quotes from my students all the time. For example, "She is straight." (she was supposed to say "She has straight hair").I try not to laugh, and invariably fail. But I laugh a lot with my students so it's usually easily covered up. With that low level student, I can't take the time to explain why "She is straight" isn't a distinction that she can make just by looking at a picture.  XDD

But I think my favorite quote so far has been with some higher-level students where I was asking about the presidential candidates in America. I asked which one she preferred, and she said, "Well I like Kerry because Bush is stupid. Is that okay?"  Me: *bursts out laughing* "That's perfectly okay! Yours is the best response I've ever heard." Maybe I shouldn't have laughed, but the other two students in class also laughed and we made a good joke about it. ^^ I told her that I was going to put it on my webpage.

I hear amusing quotes all the time, I'm going to start writing them down in my notebook. ^^ Wanna know what the most common mistake is? "I go to shopping." I get that mistake even with the highest level students. ^^;; It's weird. O_o

ROFLOL!! I'd give that girl extra credit points just for the "Bush is stupid" part! Tell her that Elvy's cheering for her! XD

Go to shopping is common because of the sentence structure of "go(ing) to ____"

Such as I'm going to play baseball or I go to the mall on Saturdays.

A good remedy for that is to tell them is that if you have 'going + verb + ing', you do not need "to". You only need "to" if you are using 'going + to + verb (no ing)'
