paypal is teh suck
*sigh* I give up... I've fought and fought with paypal and finally got it to set up my bank account here in Japan on it. Fine.... only, now I can't send money or anything without listing a credit card. Theoretically I should be able to do an instant transfer, but it won't let me. It won't tell me why either, just tells me to add a credit or debit card pointing to this address..... which of course I don't have.. I don't know how to get one either, without being able to tell the bank that I want one... *sighs* Everyone here that I know just wires the money home, but that costs about 4000 yen.. >.< I also can't send money home through mail because I can't ask for insurance on it.. I have no idea what to do, and I have bills that I have to pay back home among other things... *sigh* This is most decidedly NOT GOOD.

I hate you paypal. Why do you have to make it soooooooooo fucking difficult? *maims*  I sweat and fret over getting my japanese bank account added to a new account, and it won't even let me use the stupid thing. WHY NOT?!?!!! *maims some more*

yah, i only use payapl for instant transfer, cuz it sucks otherwise
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 3rd, 2004 09:44 pm (UTC)
I've never ever had problems with it before. I use instant transfers all the time at home, but from here it doesn't seem to be able to do it. It's being stupid to me. Argh. At this rate, I'm going to have to pick someone that I can trust and mail the money to them to deposit in my US bank account. I would pick my mother, but the Wells Fargo by her just closed down. -_- That's IF Wells Fargos in America will accept yen at all. X_x
konbonwakonbonwa on October 3rd, 2004 09:49 pm (UTC)
how much is 4000 yen in american, anyway? Don't they have a western union type of thing that is multicountry? I will see if I can find it.
Artabandonedsoul on October 3rd, 2004 09:52 pm (UTC)
4000 is like, 40 bucks US, give or take a couple.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 3rd, 2004 09:53 pm (UTC)
It's roughly $40.00. They might have one, but language is always my biggest barrier.. -_-;; I'm looking for other options right now to see what I can find. I'd do the transfer if I had more money in my account, so that I could do it as just a lump sum.
Artabandonedsoul on October 3rd, 2004 09:53 pm (UTC)
I think Western Union has an international section in it too.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 3rd, 2004 09:55 pm (UTC)
Yeah.. here's to hoping that someone speaks english.. >.>;; I'm working on my japanese, but still can't ask for crap. ^.^;
konbonwakonbonwa on October 3rd, 2004 09:57 pm (UTC)
I just checked like 6 different places, and they all have about 180 countries, and I think that Japan is like 181 on the list. It doesn't seem to exist. btw, I am ggormsen@yahoo, if you were wondering, I sent you an email the other day.
w00t for the instant replyage.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 3rd, 2004 10:01 pm (UTC)
XDD Yes, I got your email! ^__^ I've been meaning to reply to it, but I was on my way out the door for work at the time, and it slipped my mind. ^^;; I'll reply soon, promise! ^.^

someone was telling me that you can find good guides in the touristy parts of tokyo for like 1500 yen. Grab one and run all day with them till you get your errands all done. They all know engrish
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 3rd, 2004 10:12 pm (UTC)
You mean actual human guides? LOL I wouldn't do that to someone... I'll figure it all out myself.. somehow. ^^;
konbonwakonbonwa on October 3rd, 2004 10:17 pm (UTC)
ok, but that is what they are there for. I use this one guide whenever I go to mexico. His name is Hector and he decided he liked me when he jokingly offered to sell me his sister. She hit him square across the jaw and I immediately pulled out my wallet asking how much. Anyway, he costs me about 15 bucks when I go down there. Usually it is the price of his beer and a pack of smokes. I give his sister 10 for putting up with him, but she usually gives it back for baby sitting him all day.
I love a good guide. They can become a good friend down the road.

You know what would have been good.

The ability to put your paycheck into an Americvan account with a debit card you can use in Japan.
Does aNY big american bank have Japan offices?

Thne you could spend yen here and dollars there.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 3rd, 2004 11:36 pm (UTC)
I can actually use my american debit card in Japan, but I have no easy way to put money back into my american account. I'm going to see if Wells Fargo has any branches here, though I doubt it..

Heh, the only thing about getting a japanese debit card is that it's pretty much useless in Japan. Hardly anybody takes credit-- nearly everything here is operated on cash.
Elvy: Can't Push Aroundsoundsoft_elvy on October 4th, 2004 12:41 am (UTC)
Man, that totally sucks. But on a plus note for me, at least I know what to expect in the financial problems department. So I should probably start up a Japanese account through a bank that provides those kinds of services in Japan...either that, or work on the Paypal account while I'm here in America or something. That way when I get there I already have something to start with. O-o
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 4th, 2004 05:09 am (UTC)
Actually, what I would do in your case is either pay off all of your bills before you go, or leave a rather large amount of cash (whatever you can afford) in your bank account in the US. Later on, you can probably get the debit card and such for your japanese account, just leave enough in there for until you do. ^^
Elvy: Angels dont answer their phonessoundsoft_elvy on October 4th, 2004 09:14 pm (UTC)
Good idea. Luckily most of my bills are paid off. I just have to cancel my City of Heroes game. But otherwise, my other 'bills' are LJ, Ragnarok Online, and CafePress...all which can be paid off via debit card. I'll probably ask the NOVA reps what they recommend as far as getting a Japanese account and how to go about doing it.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 4th, 2004 10:19 pm (UTC)
Don't worry.. when you go through orientation here, they have EVERYONE fill out an account form at the same time, and tell us exactly how to do it together. (because the form is all in japanese). The bank is actually not a bad bank at all.. I just found the information sheet that I'd been given about it, and it tells me how to get a debit card for it. It costs 1050 yen, but I can't apply until I have my Alien Registration card, which I can't pick up for another few days. But after that I'm going to apply for it.
Elvy: Fabrication of my Imaginationsoundsoft_elvy on October 5th, 2004 12:50 am (UTC)
Phew! That makes me feel a LOT better. Okay then, I'll make sure to get that debit stuff all filled out with the rest of the group. How much yen do you think I should first come to Japan with (ideally)?
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 5th, 2004 06:29 am (UTC)
Minimum, you're going to need 50000 yen, but even that's cutting it close. I came with 100000 yen and I was alright until I got my cash advance even after buying a new monitor. ^_^

T_T Paypal sucks to me, too!!!
After three months of struggle, I got verified finally. X9

*hugs* I'm sorry you're having so much trouble, hon...

...my best suggestion would be to talk to your Nova people... surely this isn't the first time this problem has come up, and they should be able to help you get that card. *snugs*
Chiakichiaki777 on October 4th, 2004 07:43 pm (UTC)
You see, paypal loves you when you plug cash for them, so they want a credit card, or you're forced to apply for their visa card. I think that's how they want to do it.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on October 4th, 2004 07:56 pm (UTC)
No, they didn't ask me to sign up for their visa card, of I would have. I've never had this problem with the other account either. X_x
