Quick stuff ^_^
It's been a busy day, and I've learned more and more things about Japan as I go. Now that the shock is wearing off, and I've actually taught my own classes at NOVA, I'm feeling a lot better about the country. This morning I was rather undecided, and the job seemed so overwhelming that I was feeling discouraged. That's probably normal for everyone in a new job, me being no exception, but there were moments where it briefly crossed my mind that I'd rather be back home. Buuuut... now that the day's over, there's almost nowhere I'd rather be. I love it here, love the society as I feel more at home in it, and love my roommates, my location. Of course I have complaints here and there, but they're nothing big. The job is pretty easy so far, so in all honesty, I really think that I'm going to enjoy it here. ^_^

The fact that I just cooked those lovely fried bananas has nooooooothing to do with it. XDD Plus I actually bought a switch for the internet today so I now have intenet full time ^^, and I found a tower records in Shibuya. XD That was nice! <3 Plus, there's this GIGANTIC billboard with Hilary Duff's face on it right across the intersection from my training branch. XDXD I'm greatly amused. ^^ Ooooooh, and today as I walked by that billboard (this part of Shibuya is a big shopping area with tons of skyscrapers... think NYC), underneath they were blasting the Star Wars theme music and there was a girl with a table that had big displays and tons of the newly released Star Wars box sets. <3 I'd love to have them if they were region 1. ^^ (though my roomie has a region-free DVD player) BTW, the store that has the gigantic Hillary Duff is a lot like a multi-story Hastings, with books, music, and videos. ^_^ Oh, and a starbucks. XDD It kicks my ass, all seven levels. ^_^

I am sad though, that I figured out how to use my camera phone, but I didn't realize that you had to manually save the pictures. T_T So the picture of the cute schoolgirls in uniforms that I took got erased. T_T Que sera sera. ^^;; BTW, I think the Japanese are the cutest people ever, as a society! Soooo small and so petite! Kawaii!! XD Oh, and I bought something for soundsoft_elvy out of a vending machine on the way home from work today. XDXD It just reminded me of her soooo much!! Well, I must go since I have to be back for my last day of training at 9:30 am tomorrow!! O_O Gah... I have to leave by like... 8 at the very latest to get there on time.

Oh, I forgot to write that I couldn't have asked for a better student in my last lesson. ^_^ He was nearly fluent, and sooo easy to work with!! ^^

Bad side to work, though... I reek of smoke because smoking is allowed in certain areas of the building and the ventilation is poor, so there's a stale odor of smoke everywhere, even in the classrooms... >.>;;;

Probably doesn't help that half the country smokes anyway, ne? *grins* I'm so happy things are working out for you. I wanted to post about all your pics but god, with the con, i was busy as shit. >< I'm really happy things are going well though. ^_^ *huggles*

Yay! I'm SO happy that things are working out for you hun! Now I feel more at ease in filling out my JET application. I'm a little nervous, but happy all the same. I'm trying to figure out what areas I should select as my 'preferences'. It Kawasaki City a nice area? I just need to make sure I can take a train to the Akihabara area. That's ALL I care about...

*Rambles on* Need...to go to Akihabara....badly...must...buy electronics! XD

^____________________________^ Well, I'd ask for Tokyo if you can, since Kawasaki is generally considered Tokyo, at least the area that I live in. I've heard that it's hard to get into a big city with JET, though, and most people get placed in the really rural areas and I've heard that trains from there can be really expensive. ^^ (and believe it.. the train ticket just from Narita airport to my first loval train was about $30 one way) But just ask for Tokyo ^__^

Hehee, Akihabara!! <3<3 I might go there on Monday or Tuesday if I get a chance. The only problem is that electronics seem to be really expensive here. The monitor that I got was 45,000 yen (roughly $430), and it was something that I could have picked up in the US for $2-300. It was the cheapest too.. >.>;; A lot of things are really expensive here, though the good thing is that the majority of the technology (like my cell phone!! <3<3) is a bit more advanced. If you go to the bigger areas (Tokyo is generally split up into districts named after the train station there, and most of the activity is near the train stations), there are shops all over selling neat cameras, and every kind of cell phone gadget imaginable. ^_^ XD Though it's hard to shop, since most of the stores are in skyscrapers, and they look small until you realize that most of them are between 7 and 8 stories high. XD And then there are often more stores above that that are totally different, so unless you pay close attention to the signs (some in english, some in japanese) it's really hard to find a certain type of store. ^^;;;

BTW... GOOD LUCK with the JET application!!!! <3<3<3 If you don't get in, apply to NOVA and come work with me! ^^ *bounces* We would be too awesome hitting Tokyo together!! ^____^

Thank you! I think I'll get three things done today:

1.) Apply at Athena's workplace.
2.) Finish up my aunt's assignment she gave me.
3.) Work on my JET application and get as MUCH as humanly done today!

But...after I go visit Sarah at her portfolio show. ^_^*

Oh... I randomly thought of this but... if you ever have the time to go run around in a CD store, I remembered that Japan had some really good Savage Garden CDs. Whether they do or not anymore though, I can't tell you. ^.^;

Thanks! ^__^ I'll keep a look out! I want to go back to that Tower records when I have time, and I've seen a few other CD stores that I'd like to hit ^^

That's awesome that you're having a good time! The smoke smell seems gross though. I think I'd die from all that smoke around me if I went there. @ o @;
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on September 23rd, 2004 03:40 am (UTC)
*nodnodnod* Today actually it wasn't so bad. I normally can't stand smoke at all, but today it didn't really bother me, thank god. It might be because a lot of people just weren't smoking. ^^ And, actually, despite what people have said, there isn't all that many smokers around here. That, or they don't do it in public as often. Sure they sell cigarrettes in the vending machines, but I've only walked by a very select few people that were smoking. And the trains are nonsmoking, as is many of the shopping centers. WEll, at least I think they are, because I never see anybody smoking in them. ^^
