Internet suckageishness
You know, I'm going to kill this connection sometime.. >.>;; I seem to be able to connect to the internet on Mom's computer juuuuuuust fine and stay connected for hours, but my own will dial the connection perfectly, connect me, and then disconnect me anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes later. Randomly. It's the same isp, same phone line. Anybody have any idea what's wrong? I've tried everything that I can think of, from checking the settings a million times to reinstalling and/or updating the modem drivers. I'm completely at a loss. *maims it* It's just.... rather annoying, as I can't leave my computer up and running, since Mom needs the monitor for hers and mine won't stay connected. Gah. Seriously, I can't even chat on aim without it crapping on me. >.<

Other things have been alright.... The Lost World by Michael Crichton kicks all forms of ass! Everyone should read it!

Last time that happened to a friend, we changed the line (guessing its dialup). Try changing the telephone cable to a new one. If you're using an old phone cord, it might be the reason. Otherwise, if that doesnt work, It could be, that the lines in your room (inside the wall) are stripped wrong or need to be restripped to catch right. I dunno if that'll help or not, just stuff thats happened that seem to have fixed the issue since you said it works in 1 room and not another.

Actually, it's not in a separate room.. I need to use my mom's monitor, so I just hooked it up at the same desk, and took the phone line from the back of her computer. We've switched it back and forth several times, and it works on her computer without any problems, just not on mine. ^^;;; *huggles* Thanks for trying to help, though!!! ^.^

If you find out, let me know - I have the exact same problem on mine with no luck fixing it. Incidentially, a friend of mine indicated it has something to do with laptops, but I have no idea what.

I'll definitely let you know if I can fix it! Though I'm using a desktop computer (still in the market for a laptop), so it's probably not something that's only laptop-oriented. ^^

Same type of problem here. Except, of course, I do stay connected longer than 30 seconds and can be connected for over 30 minutes.

My guess: it's either 1) the modem, or 2) something on the computer that's causing problems(like spyware or a virus or something).
