Well.. I just finished reading the novel Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. I breezed through all 616 pages of the book relatively quickly.. partly because it's a fast read and written (translated) at only a 6th grade level, but mostly because I just couldn't put it down. Even though I knew the generic outcome of the book from watching the movie that was based on it, I was still gripped by the level of detail in it. Of course it goes without saying that a book would be more detailed than a movie, but I was just surprised by how much more.. if you've only seen the movie, you're losing a LOT of the experience by not reading the book. It explains WHY certain students acted certain ways, and WHY certain events unfolded like they did. There just wasn't time for that sort of depth in a theatrical feature. Even if the feature had been 3 hours long like a lot of the current Hollywood movies, it wouldn't have been long enough to go into the experiences and feelings of 42 students as they're enlisted to hunt down their classmates.

I highly recommend. More than highly recommend, even. I can't wait for the DVDs for the first two movies to arrive here. I heard that the second one continues the events in the first book, only three years later. Gah.. I can't wait. I also heard that that smiling little girl from the very beginning of the movie (the one clutching a teddy bear and bathed in blood, while smiling.. trust me you can't forget her) is in it. Wah, I can't wait!

People... seriously I highly recommend the novel for Battle Royale, and the first movie. The manga hasn't been as good so far, but I reserve judgement on that until I've read a little bit more.

Next on my reading list is to pick up the novel for "The Ring." Yes, that movie.. the novel is out here too finally! Yay! I already have the manga though I haven't read it..

And while I'm recommending... Pick up Forbidden Dance, a Tokyopop manga if you're into shoujo at all.. You won't regret it. It's one of the best shoujo stories that I've read in a long time!!!! Now if only they hadn't changed the cover.. -_-;; XD How's that for a change? High school bloodbath book to fluffy angsty teen drama manga. XDXD

I LOVE the BR novel! It was so interesting to learn more about the characters. I was really dissapointed in the manga though. Btw, love your icon! Ba-boom!
