TV...
6th-Nov-2009 02:18 am
I'm just wondering, but... what current TV shows am I missing that are just too awesome to pass up? Any recommendations? There is a lot of TV that I follow, so I might be watching it alread/have seen it already, but let me know what you all like! ^^

This is stuff that I'm more or less keeping up with. This doesn't mean that it's any good... lol

The Amazing Race (Okay, I love this!)
ANTM (ditto)
Bones (ditto)
Desperate Housewives (Boring these days but it's a habit)
Destination Truth (This show actually makes me mad because they are so half-assed)
Dexter (Boring nowadays but habit)
Dirty Jobs (LOL only occasionally catch this but Mike Rowe reminds me of my Dad, so I like it XD)
Ghost Hunters (SO boring these days)
Gossip Girl (I just like the fashion and sex ^^;;)
Heroes (Boring but picking up with Charlie being back)
House (Good but not as good as it used to be)
Supernatural (Loved the season premiere but it's been going steadily downhill)
Survivor (Great season!!!!!)
Ugly Betty (Meh.. but hoping it will get good again)
Oprah and Dr. Oz (do they count?)

So, what am I missing, guys? I liked a few other shows (Secret Life of the American Teenager was AWESOME!! but it's off-air right now) that aren't playing at the moment, and of course tried a lot that I didn't like (Vampire Diaries, etc). Let me know what you liike that's currently playing! Did anything suck at the beginning and get better later? Am I missing out on some awesome thing? For reference, I really like anything dealing with exotic places, that's very Sci-fi (although NOT cheesy, please... Warehouse 13 was so bad. I loved Star Treks of all sizes and The X-Files and things like that though!), and anything well-done and edgy (like Secret Life or The OC). ^^

I really only want something that's currently airing! I know there are lots of good things that are in the off-season (like Drop Dead Diva), but what is hot now?

Anime or Jdrama is fine, too ^^ Or anything from another country as long as it's not cheesy! (unless it's actually funny, like Red Dwarf!) I really don't even know what's playing in Japan at the moment, aside from Kimi ni Todoke, which isn't very good either. ^^;

I really liked the V premiere on Tuesday. I'll be watching it. And, of course, Dollhouse is teh awesome :D
5th-Nov-2009 05:29 pm (UTC)
I thought Dollhouse was cancelled? I loved the premise originally, but it actually got boring after just a few episodes for me.

What is V about?
5th-Nov-2009 05:23 pm (UTC)
Numb3rs is pretty good. Would also recommend Doctor Who and Torchwood except both are currently between seasons. (Ditto The IT Crowd.)
5th-Nov-2009 05:31 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah.. I used to watch Numb3rs, but dropped it last year.

LOL, I did try Dr. Who a while back because my roommate was really into it, but it was so cheesy and I couldn't stand the acting or the actors (well, Dr was okay, but I didn't like the girl at all!). LOL She swore that it got better later, but I checked out Torchwood briefly and it didn't look any different to me. ^_^; It would be interesting if they did an American remake of it, I think!

I watch a fair amount of the same stuff. Also Castle, Merlin, Project Runway, Dollhouse, and Psych. I've also watched the first two eps of White Collar and enjoyed them and recently gotten into Leverage.
5th-Nov-2009 05:28 pm (UTC)
I thought that Dollhouse was cancelled?

Oh, and what are Castle and Psych about? I've never heard of them!

Did Merlin get any better after the first episode? I didn't really like it, which surprised me since I love the era! But then again, Rome was not really my thing (although I loved Xena!).

Fringe and FastForward!!!
5th-Nov-2009 05:34 pm (UTC)
What are they about? I remember hearing them, but not really much on the plot.
5th-Nov-2009 05:33 pm (UTC)

I'll just list what I love, even though some of them are already on your list :)

-House
-Big Bang Theory
-Castle (LOVE this show...athan Fillion is awesome, the chemistry is great, and the writing is awesome, too)
-So You Think You Can Dance
-ANTM
-Criminal Minds
-Supernatural
-The Mentalist
-Family Guy

I dabble in Shark Tank and Biggest Loser. I just stopped watching Flash Foward. It's off season for True Blood. Haven't caught V yet.

Castle is definitely my new fave, though, and I love SPN a lot...but that's a long-term love.
5th-Nov-2009 05:36 pm (UTC)
I LOVED Nathan Fillion in Firefly and that other race show that sadly never took off (though it was AWESOME!). What is Castle about?

Same with Criminal Minds and The Mentalist. What are they about?

LOL I keep getting told that I'd like Big Bang Theory, but I watched the first episode years ago and couldn't stand it.... am I missing something?
5th-Nov-2009 05:35 pm (UTC)
Glee! Glee is pure fabulousness. =) My other staples are House, NCIS, CSI, Project Runway, Monk, and Psych, all great shows.
5th-Nov-2009 05:40 pm (UTC)
LOL I did give Glee a try, but it reminded me too much of High School Musical and not enough of Chicago/Rent/musicals I like. T-T

I could never get into CSI, but I'm curious about Project Runway... it seemed to only focus on the fashion when I watched a few episodes years ago. Did I just see bad episodes, or does it actually focus on the people, like ANTM?

What are Monk and Psych about?
5th-Nov-2009 05:41 pm (UTC)
Oh man they've been doing the funny Supernatural episodes. I LOVE THOSE. The last one was hilarious.

Mmm of new shows, I've been watching:
Flash Forward
Modern Family
the forgotten
Eastwick

mm there's probably more but I can't think of them right now.

Adding to her list here, we also watch Medium and The Middle.

Flash Forward is where everyone on the planet blacked out for 2minutes. A lot of people died who were in airplanes, cars, swimming etc. It turns out everyone saw two minutes of their future six months from that day. A group of I think it's FBI people are trying to find out why it happened so it can't ever happen again by using the main guy's vision of his office and the board they were working on and in his vision people are coming to kill him before he can put it all together. (Drama)

(sorry I'd look up all the proper information but I apparently can't look at any pages with ads without catching a virus, thanks Avast)

Modern Family is about an extended family shot in the style of "The Office" only this one is actually pretty funny. There's a gay couple who adopt a baby, a 'normal family' mom/dad/3kids but honestly, the dad is a complete moron who tries to be his kids' bestest best friend instead of a dad, and then the wife of this family and one of the gay pair are siblings and their dad remarried a much younger foreign woman who has one child. (Comedy)

Ummm.. The Forgotten is about a network of volunteers who get John and Jane Doe cases from the police after they shut them down. Their job is to find out who the deceased were. (Drama)

Eastwick is about a small town that has a past of witches (think Salem) and these three women end up getting powers, becoming friends and lots of stuff happens lol hard to explain. I suppose it's probably a guilty pleasure for me. (Comedy, Drama)

Medium has been going on for several seasons and you probably already know this one. (Drama)

The Middle is about one really messed up family and it's got the Janitor from Scrubs as the dad. The mom works at a used car sales lot and can't sell a car to save her life. I think the dad is a mechanic or something, hard to tell. The eldest boy doesn't wear pants. The middle girl is like socially retarded and tries really hard but just can't do anything. The youngest boy is pretty smart and seems to be the last hope of this family but he whispers to his shirt pocket all the time and has many many other problems. (Comedy)

I need to catch up on Dexter at some point and yeah Ghost Hunters has been lacking lately. Next week looks interesting? But it's so hard to tell, Steve and Tango's scare looked awesome in previews but just didn't deliver.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed with Destination Truth. The main guy is so unprofessional all the time and there are just too many things outside that it's almost impossible to ever find visual or audio evidence. Honestly 24 hours is not enough to investigate the cases they always decide to do.

I agree with you on the ANTM, Bones, Heroes, House, and Ugly Betty (though ANTM is my secret shame).
I'm also watching Stargate Universe, Modern Family, and the Simpsons. I think that's about it.
For Sci-Fi though, you should totally check out Farscape. It's a finished series, but it's AWESOME.
88 episodes and a 4-hour miniseries. It's brilliant.
5th-Nov-2009 05:55 pm (UTC)
Chuck and Psych are the only ones I watch besides Supernatural. Sometimes I catch NCIS with my parents, but that's mainly for Abby and Ziva more than the show...
5th-Nov-2009 05:58 pm (UTC)
I was going to say House, but you've already nailed it. Two other things I watch are The Office, which is insanely hilarious, and believe it or not, The Ellen Degeneres Show. I kow it doesn't classify as an official series of anything, but if you get a chance to watch her, she's awesome.
5th-Nov-2009 11:09 pm (UTC)
Good - I'm glad someone finally mentioned the awesomeness that is The Office!

It's the only show I watch anymore...
5th-Nov-2009 06:00 pm (UTC)
You might also really enjoy "Castle". It's about a mystery writer (Nathan Fillion- Mal from Firefly) who teams up with a cop because he's writing about her. It's a lot of fun!

I also second that you'd probably like "V". It's really awesome.

I hope things are great over there!!

Hm, Liar Game (jdrama) if you haven't seen it already. They're coming out with the second season sometime next week I believe.
5th-Nov-2009 06:03 pm (UTC)
If you like SciFi, you have to watch Fringe, Flash Forward, Stargate Universe, and V (it just started).

Glee is a great fun show... and just because it seems to be a requirement to watch at least one vampire related show, I'll say Vampire Diaries ^_^

I dont watch TV so I cant help, I only watch supernatural (the new season) because its fun spoting all the fan girl bait the stuff into that show (or making fun of other shows and things)

5th-Nov-2009 06:20 pm (UTC)
Castle and The Mentalist are two detective series that I'm currently enjoying~ The new Law & Order UK is also not bad.

I also recommend Glee, which is a fairly new highschool series... the characters are rather strange, but it has an awesome soundtrack~
5th-Nov-2009 06:23 pm (UTC)
I love Lost. It's a pretty intense tv show. I'm waiting for the 5th, I think? Season. GO WATCH. =D
5th-Nov-2009 06:42 pm (UTC)
Quite a bit of the stuff I like watching you've all ready listed, but you could try NCIS. It's not really like CIS, but there is some elements.
5th-Nov-2009 07:09 pm (UTC)
I don't actually watch TV, but my life would be a much sadder and emptier place without YuGiOh the Abridged Series.

5th-Nov-2009 07:20 pm (UTC)

Frickin' WORD!
5th-Nov-2009 07:15 pm (UTC)
Psych, Big Bang Theory an 30 Rock .. these are absolutely awesome
5th-Nov-2009 07:42 pm (UTC)

5th-Nov-2009 07:42 pm (UTC)
Californication
Glee
How I met your mother
Grey's Anatomy
5th-Nov-2009 07:47 pm (UTC)
I totally forgot "How I met your mother". Dude, it's Legend... wait for it and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because it's..... dary. LOL!!! It's so great!
5th-Nov-2009 07:59 pm (UTC)
I'm adoring Fringe, FlashForward, Glee, and Castle at the moment :D
5th-Nov-2009 08:21 pm (UTC)
Hi, Jamie. Longtime lurker, first time commenter. ^^;;

If you want a new show to get into, I'd recommend How I Met Your Mother if you like comedies.

As for anime, I'm not sure of what you like other than POT. What series do you tend to like?
5th-Nov-2009 08:40 pm (UTC)
Intervention and Hoarders on A&E.

We seem to have the same taste in movies, and even though Im not big on television, but I always ALWAYS have to stop and watch this. This series is really good

Heres part one to an episode about a can huffer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4qU57xPh5E

The CNBC specials are usually very enlightening as well :) American Greed on CNBC is bonkers.
5th-Nov-2009 08:40 pm (UTC)
For good stuff currently on air, you should also consider How I Met Your Mother.

And a general, off air recommandation always is Firefly</a>.
5th-Nov-2009 08:41 pm (UTC)
I'm hooked on Glee right now! Not at all scifi but its addicting.
