Jamie's Tokyo Blog -- Mainichi Gaijin de Tokyo!
Of a little bit of everything.... Chocolate, Tenipuri, Plays, Friends, Work, and MILK!!
9th-Jul-2009 12:37 pm
There is surprisingly a lot to write about..!! Sort of.

This last week I've spent in the studio, working on the manga that is going to come with Konomi-sensei's first CD. It's... hilarious! And gay. So very, very gay. LOL, in any case, trust me it's worth it. Plus, you can listen to "Tenipuri tte ii~~~~~ na" while reading it. It's all a pretty funny situation, really.. but I'm happy for him. (even though it means more work for us T-T) Sensei is supporting my acting endeavorss (he specifically said, "I want you to go out there and be on tv and movies and then I'll say "Hey! That's MY Jamie" XDXD Thanks for your support, Sensei. I support you too!!)

Right before I went into the studio, I went again to the Berry Cafe with Mamiko. I can't get enough of that place!! In my quest to find the best chocolate in Tokyo, we also went to Pierre Marcolini's. Mmmm, the chocolate drink and parfait that I had was just heaven!! I still think there can be better, though! Afterwards, we headed out to the play that my friends Nana and Wataru are in, The Best of Hyougen-Sawayaka. There were kappa!! It was so funny!! =D We went to the celebration with the cast afterward (it was opening night) and I made some good new friends. At one point, Nana shoved her phone at me and bade me talk to Kimeru (seems he had came but didn't know about the party). He was so chipper and friendly and.. eager to chat.. that I have to wonder, maybe just maybe he's not as bad as I thought. He invited me to his next concert, so if I have the time to go then I guess we'll see. Despite that we listen to it sometimes in the studio, I don't really know any of his new music, though.. And anyways, why is he so eager to talk to me now? What a change from before.

Anyways, I just want to say.. the play is still going on for a few days, so GO SEE IT! It's pretty funny!! You can buy tickets at the door for all but the last show, I think. ^-^ http://www.nekohote.com/next_top.html

So, then it was in to the studio for me. I got out late Tuesday night, and spent the next day (yesterday) going to a movie audition, then back to the Berry Cafe with Adrian, and then I barely had enough time to get home and change, then go out with Lindsay for a little while. We went to a bar in Shibuya-- The Chestnut and Squirrel. I don't know.. I really don't like bars. I don't drink, don't smoke,so it's like being a fish out of water. But I thought that maybe I could meet some fun people. In all, it was kind of boring, but I did meet a nice girl that will probably become a friend. ^^ So all was not in vain! Next time I have a weekend off, I am going to go on some kind of camping trip or something, definitely! Though who knows when that will be. ^^;;

I have today off, and first order of business-- MY FRIDGE WAS DELIVERED!! YAY!! I now have a gorgeous steel fridge!! I LOVE IT! Okay, I haven't plugged it in yet because the movers told me to wait 1 hour, but I will do so now! I'm so excited! Gonna go buy milk :3 Of course, because of that, I have almost no money left in the bank. But YAAAAAAAAY MIIIIIILK!!

So today, gonna head over to get my llicense translated, so that I can get a japanese one (eventually). Other than that, I don't have any concrete plans for today, so I think I will take the evening and write, write, write!! Write like crazy for my manga. Tomorrow is another day off, then Saturday it's back to the grind!!

Oh, this month is so full that I can't even blink. But I love it! I really love the feeling of being busy, as long as I have a lot of fun things going on and I get a bit of time here and there to relax. ^-^ Now iit's off to shower!!

PS: Anybody going to Tenipuri Festa??

...That icecream looks so good I nearly licked my screen...

Do they make you re-write anything for a Japanese license or is it just that it's *poof* a Japanese one...?
9th-Jul-2009 03:56 am (UTC)
If you are American, you also have to take a driving test. T-T It's a very biased system since the test is expensive and some other coountries don't have to take it.
9th-Jul-2009 03:58 am (UTC)
I guess just retaking it wouldn't be so bad, but if they're charging an arm and a leg =w=;

I keep putting off getting my licence since it's about 700$... not sure how that compares to anywhere else but I just don't have that kinda money to spare ._.;
9th-Jul-2009 04:02 am (UTC)
?!?!!!!! That's outrageous! I heard that for a japanese person it costs about $1000 too...

But I paid $35 for mine. ToT I thought that it was a lot, actually. They definitely should not cost more than that, since I believe everyone is entitled to a license if they can exhibit the ability to drive. It's owning a car that is supposed to cost tons of money.
9th-Jul-2009 07:56 am (UTC)
$700?! That's ridiculous! How can they charge that much?

I mean I guess here if you factor in driving classes (though I'm not sure every state requires you take those...) then the cost goes up a little but not nearly that much. Sheesh...
9th-Jul-2009 10:39 am (UTC)
yeah, I'm pretty sure that's with lessons.
Still, everytime I think to myself "it'd be nice to have a licence..." I shit a brick when I think of how much it'll cost me.

They really don't make it affordable for people that barely make by as is :T (I've had to cancel my TV and bus passes just to save a little extra money 'cause other stuff went up. bah!)
9th-Jul-2009 03:54 am (UTC)
Yay for fridge and milk! And the chocolate goodies look so yummy~

Being good busy is the best! I hope you enjoy yourself but make sure you get enough rest as well!
9th-Jul-2009 04:03 am (UTC)
Ooh wow, Berry Cafe and Pierre Marcolini's Chocolate's - everything at both places looks so delicious.

& I agree, I love being busy especially if I'm having fun at the same time. Reading your posts just makes me want to get out again because I haven't been doing much (If you don't count my Math Class,) and been somewhat not as social as I should be the last few weeks. But yeah, your posts just reminds me I should get out more. :)

&& That's great your Sensei is supporting you in your acting. Hope you do awesome also, and get parts that you audition for =D ♥
9th-Jul-2009 04:10 am (UTC)
Awww~ The Tenipuri Festa is after I've already left Japan. =.(((

Btw, do you know the password to get the wallpaper on the site? X.D
9th-Jul-2009 04:32 am (UTC) - about that...
Berry cafe looks delicious o.o I wish I could go! But alas, no one to go with. My boyfriend doesn't like sweets, and he especially doesn't like spending monies on them. So lucky! I wonder if it's weird for a girl to go alone? It seems almost taboo in Japan, and a little awkward ^^; Do you to to the one in Aoyama? I pass the Comme Ca Cafe in Shinjuku often enough, but it doesn't seem to be anything like the Berry Cafe.

Camping!! Awesome! Where to?

Your fridge is amazing! It's HUGE by Japanese standards! I am envious! For awhile the boy and I were using 2 Japanese sized fridges before we gave up and settled on one. We have to go shopping every few days, it holds so little!

Getting a driver's license in Japan is awesome. In Saitama we have to take a written test in addition to the driving test. And the driving course is like something from a go-kart track! It sucks it costs so much money, but I think I understand why American's have to take the driving test.

I don't know if you've ever driven a Japanese car, with the steering wheel on the right side of the car, and driving on the left side of the road. I did it only in a simulation (a very realistic one at the Toyota Showroom) and I ran into side walls, people, and I also kept trying to get to the right side! I would be a danger in Japan if I didn't practice driving on the left!

The list of countries that aren't required to take a driving test all drive on the left side, so they probably won't have to overcome this problem. So this is my theory why American's have to take the stupid test.
9th-Jul-2009 04:42 am (UTC) - Re: about that...
I went to the cafe in Ginza.

Mmm, actually Canada drives on the right, right? They don't have to take the test, though. According to one of the official websites that I read (possibly American embassy one), the reason is that because America doesn't have a country-wide standard system (it's state-by-state), there is no way for japanese people to get a license without taking a test. Therefore, Japan reciprocates. It's basically like the fingerprint system, one that is based on a child's justification of "You did it, so I'm going to too, HA!" -_-; I hate it when countries act like children, but it seems to happen a lot, especially in Japan.
9th-Jul-2009 08:10 am (UTC) - Re: about that...
I think in Canada people drive on the left? I can only say for Toronto, people drive on the left same as California. Didn't know that in America it differs state by state, but I can't think of any state that drives on the right...in UK, Hong Kong, and Japan, people drive on the right.
9th-Jul-2009 11:35 am (UTC) - Re: about that...
Oh no, everyone drives on the right in America. It's that drivers licenses are issued by the state rather than federal government, and if you move to another state, you have to switch your driver's license over.
9th-Jul-2009 10:50 pm (UTC) - Re: about that...
Erm, I live in Toronto and I'm in the car
right now and everybody is driving on the
right side of the road in the left front
seat of the car sooo... I don't know if
you meant the steering wheel (which I think
you did) but we drive on the right side of
the road and the driver's seat is on the
left side of the car.
Just thought I'd clear that up.

Re: state-by-state regulations, Canada
has province-by-province regulations. They
don't all differ too drastically, but there
are a few differences so perhaps a Canadian
would too have to retake the test in Japan.
10th-Jul-2009 01:05 am (UTC) - Re: about that...
Oh wow, that's odd! Now I really feel slighted, because the Embassy web site says that is the reason that Americans have to take the test. T-T

But Canadians definitely don't.
10th-Jul-2009 01:26 am (UTC) - Re: about that...

Yeah, for sure it's bizarre. When I went to
Manhattan last year everyone was driving the
same as in Toronto so I'm also confused about
the regulations regarding the driving test for
Americans in Japan. Sounds reaaaally strange
considering your neighbors to the North obey
pretty much the exact same laws!
10th-Jul-2009 01:35 am (UTC) - Re: about that...
haha sorry I was confused. Thanks for clearing that up!
10th-Jul-2009 01:42 am (UTC) - Re: about that...
No worries!! I just commented because I think
it's weird that Jamie has to reapply for a
license and I wouldn't have to.
10th-Jul-2009 12:02 am (UTC) - Re: about that...
er crap, you're right!

Well, there goes that theory.

Then that does make it pretty lame =/
9th-Jul-2009 08:07 am (UTC)
related, I love that waitress' uniform in the first pic!!! At first I went, "is that a bra?" then I go, "oh that's a uniform!" I may be wrong though
9th-Jul-2009 11:30 am (UTC)
LOL it's actually the shirt that my friend was wearing! I'll tell her that you liked it though! =D
9th-Jul-2009 08:34 am (UTC)
WOW THAT LOOKS GOOD... O_O I need to look for that place next time I go to Japan fosho.

Seems like you've gone a long way since I last saw around on lj. >_> Hope you're doing well!
9th-Jul-2009 10:42 am (UTC)
Those parfaits look delicious. Too bad I'm completely broke until next month or I'd love to go out and try more things.

Yay for having a fridge. I'm surprised you didn't have one for so long though. That was the first thing I bought when I moved into my new Kanagawa apartment. Mine is used because moving + old salary would in no way afford a new one but it's still a nice almost full sized stainless steal fridge, for 1man. ^^ I love recycle shops.
9th-Jul-2009 11:38 am (UTC)
Oh iiiii na! That's so cheap! I looked and looked, but I couldn't find a stainless one in the recycle shops, so I found one on Craigslist. It cost a LOT, which is part of the reason that it took me so long. Since I used up all of my money moving here, I didn't have any! But since I'm not home for about 2/3 of the month, it's not like it's a huge need.

It's the first furniture in my apartment, though. LOL I don'T even have a bed! But no money left to get it, so... ^^;;
9th-Jul-2009 10:57 am (UTC)
i'm craving for chocolates even more
*runs to get a chocolate in the refrigerator*
9th-Jul-2009 11:28 am (UTC)
i had spicy kimchi and pork hot pot today, i think you'd like it =3
9th-Jul-2009 11:35 am (UTC)
That all looks really nice :) Have fun with the fridge :) Take care.
9th-Jul-2009 11:59 am (UTC)
Uwahhh~ You talked to Kimeru on the phone!!! That is soo awesome. I really want to go to his summer concert, but can't make it because I am going back to the states to visit and I have an ikebana study session the other day I wanted to try to go.

Konami sensei's album sounds interesting. I will definately check it out when it is released. The fact it comes with a short manga is awesome!
9th-Jul-2009 12:09 pm (UTC)
I'm happy to hear your Fridge was delivered!! Coolness!!^_^

And, the chocolate desserts you posted pics of look really yummerooski!!:b :b

OK, I can't help it, I have to post this link:

My boyfriend doesn't like sweets

Pegasus, my niece's husband isn't a fan of sweets, either. In fact, before they moved to NC, my mom sent my niece some chocolates from a local candy store (Hiliard's) for her and my sister & brother-in-law. My mom also got for my niece's husband this trail mix they make at the store that's really good. In a note that she enclosed, my mom told my niece she hopes she enjoys this trip down memory lane. She also put a note in for Dave (my niece's husband) saying that she knows he doesn't care for candy, but here's something for you to munch on while everyone else indulges their sweet tooth. LOL!!:D
10th-Jul-2009 12:40 am (UTC)
haha

Yeah, he'd love the trail mix over sweet any day! I've been taking dessert baking classes lately, and when I get home, I'm stuck eating the cupcakes/brownies/etc on my own ;_; But I guess it makes more for me =p
9th-Jul-2009 12:51 pm (UTC)
I wish I could, but Tenimyu is in Nagoya. And it wins. Sorry. I have to see it in Nagoya. But best of fun and excitement if you go!
9th-Jul-2009 06:11 pm (UTC)
I'll be there, of course. ^^

BTW, have you ever been here? http://bonjour-kobe.com/index.htm
I drooled all over my monitor, but even though they have like thousands of stores, not ONE is in Tokyo!!!!! I'm mad. >.
10th-Jul-2009 01:03 am (UTC)
I figured, but I thought I should leave it that way just in cse... :P

Nope. Never heard of it.
9th-Jul-2009 01:37 pm (UTC)
Aw, that's nice about Kime. I do hope you'll get a more pleasant experience when you meet him again. ^^

Damn, TeniPuri Festa. ;__________; I WANT.
9th-Jul-2009 01:43 pm (UTC)

I still need to cook for you!

(which means FREE for you since it's my treat if I can use your kitchen :D)
9th-Jul-2009 03:11 pm (UTC)
I don't think I'm going to have another day off until at least the 22nd. Probably later..ToT
9th-Jul-2009 03:00 pm (UTC)
Don't you have to take an evil test to get the Japanese license? ;o;

Write me back about the shopping stuff when you have a chance!!! and I want to hear about the audition ♥
9th-Jul-2009 03:12 pm (UTC)
Yeah, but I don't have a choice unfortunately.
9th-Jul-2009 03:03 pm (UTC)

I wanna go to Tenipuri Festa!!! ^___^ Too bad it's overseas from here... are there any freebies they're giving out there?

Your pictures of the food are as mouth-watering as usual. Makes me want to go to a cafe for some nice cake!

Best of luck to you and your acting goals!
10th-Jul-2009 12:58 am (UTC)
MMMMMMMM Those look amazingly delicious! :D But anyway - I also don't drink or smoke and don't go out places unless it's 1) a dance club, 2) a concert, or 3) has food and everyone is eating. It's just so BORING to sit around as everyone gets drunker and drunker and breath smoky air. :P
10th-Jul-2009 03:55 pm (UTC)
I love your photos.
12th-Jul-2009 03:04 am (UTC)
That looks really really good!!! I wish I had some T_T.. I'm a sucker for sweets so this is basically heaven to me xD... Well at least you enjoy... Lucky!!!
