S.. so that's the size of a gundam!!
2nd-Jul-2009 01:11 am
Last Saturday was epic.. in the way that only a really geeky thing can be!

But.... I mean, how geeky can it really be when a real-size, 1:1 scale model of a Gundam exists? It sounds pretty mainstream to me. ^-^ It's also pretty damn cool. =D

Anyways, it is 18 meters tall, and was just built in Odaiba to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Gundam anime. Despite that I've only seen (and thoroughly enjoyed) the newest incarnation, Gundam 00, and the oldoldold SD Gundam OVA, this was still... epic. =D

Definitely an epic win! It moved and lights and fog came out! Eda and I went together, and I think she mentioned several times that she came in her pants. =D I wasn't quite that excited, but I definitely had a few moments of awe! Promptly followed by DAMN I WANT TO PILOT THAT THING! But alas, I'm neither angsty nor a teenager, so I don't qualify.

Too bad. Because think how cool it would be to fly through the sky and space in that?! Not to mention that when people asked me what I did for a living, I could nonchalantly respond, "Oh, I just pilot a gundam." Way cooler than "mangaka", right? Maybe... okay, maybe not. But it's definitely up there with "Oh, I'm captain of the USS Enterprise," right? =D (Sorry, I saw the movie for a third time today... I seriously can't get enough of it!!!)

My hand doesn't go there!!

Eda has more respect for it than I do....

Just hanging out around Odaiba. The weather was gorgeous!! Warm warm warm!

There was a watermelon faire going on in Aqua City. We had watermelon-flavored annin-dofu.. Good, but no match for the banana we had a few months ago!!

By the way, there is a tiny statue of liberty here for some reason..

Pretty boats on the water!

The Aqua City shopping center.

Tokyo Bay

Huge steel dinosaurs protect the quiet peace of the bay =D

I'd read that it was supposed to light up at night... but I didn't know about the steam!! (and the music! There was epic music =D)

Ahhhh, life in Tokyo is never boring, if you know where to look. =D

BTW, it is free to see (unless you count the train fare and the fact that you will undoubtedly want to eat somewhere in the gorgeous Odaiba shopping centers) =D It's going to be there until the end of August, so go and see it if you can! Don't miss it!!

That has to be the nerdiest thing on the planet, and I love it so much!! xD Awesome pictures!

You see, being a Gundam pilot has been my dream, my 'if-only' wish. -___- Boy, do I envy Japanese.
1st-Jul-2009 04:46 pm (UTC)
Aww, seeing as there aren't working Gundams yet, not even a japanese person can pilot them. And from what I understand, most of the pilots in the show aren't even japanese either! (At least in Gundam 00, most of them weren't)

So you definitely have a shot! Whenever they become a reality!

It's so funny that you post this because about half an hour before I saw your entry, I was showing my boyfriend pictures of it online! That's so cool that you got to see it in person~ I didn't know that it could move, though!
1st-Jul-2009 04:48 pm (UTC)
Dude, that would be so fun to pilot! *___* I would join the ranks just to use one of those things! ^^
1st-Jul-2009 04:51 pm (UTC)
Damn I love that thing. XD And yes, I'm glad I'm not alone with the 'OMG I want to pilot that!' thoughts -- being a Gundam pilot is so much cooler than anything (although 'mangaka' is way up there in my books! ^^).

1st-Jul-2009 05:41 pm (UTC)
A pink gundam, roflol!! That's hilarious! XDXD Or hideous! I can't tell!!

Yeah, this gundam was really huge! Since most of the pics that I took were without people in them, it doesn't really do a good job of comparison =D
