Kappa kappa la la~♪
A few days ago, my friend Ma-chan got stuck in Tokyo for the night, and I let her stay the night. =^__^= It was nice seeing her again! Because I am planning to go on a search for Kappa sometime, she thought that it would be great to go to Kappa-bashi-doori, a street in Tokyo which is famous for it's amount of kitchen utensils. So we traipsed through the heat to get there.... unfortunately it really lives up to its reputation rather than its name, which means that there were indeed a lot of stores to buy kitchen items (if I ever want to buy plastic display food like in most of the restaurants here, I know where to go!), then I know where to go! But we'd hoped that there would be a place with kappa-related goods, and were sadly disappointed. I want some kappa goods to match the kappa earrings that I bought in Kyoto, that I can use to remind myself of my impending journey.

Kappa are a kind of water sprite that are really prevalent in Japanese folklore. (See the link above for more information). There are a lot of ancient accounts of actually sighting them, though no actual documented proof. I'd really, really like to be able to prove it!

The first place on my journey is going to be Kappa lake, where it's rumored to have Kappa living in its deep waters. I'm not really expecting anything to be there, but it's a good starting place. Then I stumbled upon the site of a guy who did a journey like what I'm thinking, and I may take some of his ideas as well as researching my own. I think that I'll save up enough money to take this trip next summer!! ^___^ I'll call it: Jamie's Find The Kappa journey 2008! XD;;

Think it's real?? http://namutaku.net/livejournal2/kappasighting.jpg

Kitchen utensils?

Could you give me some directions to that street so that I can find when I'm in Tokyo? Still looking for cute stuff ^^;;;

I don't remember off the top of my head, but if you look it up in any Tokyo travel book it should be listed. ^^

And most of the stuff is the kind of kitchen stuff that diners need. Not for home kitchens really, so it has more functional and less of the cute. ^^;

so i guess a kappa is the equivalent to our bigfoot.
But a kappa seems way cooler! :D
And the Kappa sighting looks real to me...

Yeah, pretty much. =^___^= I'd love to have a bigfoot sighting myself too, though somehow it seems a little more dangerous than a water sprite (depending on how you look at it, of course..).

That sounds like soo much fun!! If I were to be in Japan next summer I would soo go with you. Going on random quests in Japan sounds interesting.
Oh, I hope I get accepted to the JET program. I have soo much to do to get my application prepared. Lots of running around to do when I get to school getting proof of this and that.

Hi! I just found your name at the bottom of a translation of Byakkoya no Musume and I wanted to say thank you so much for writing it! It's my new favorite song, and it's so much more meaningful with the full lyrics...
