Nita, Hawaii festival, AirGear myu, new place, etc~~
I can't believe that it's been nearly a week since I've written in my journal!! Well, I suppose that it's because I've been really busy! =D A change in the weather (suddenly bordering on hot) and increased activity level has left me completely wiped each night, to the point that I couldn't even write in my journal. I could barely read my friends' journals sometimes! ^_^; I'm watching a tv special on Alien Abductions right now. I'm really glad that nothing like that has happened to me. o.o I can't even imagine the horror. I'd like to think of aliens as nice, fun, curious people. Like me (get it?)!

Let's see----- for the last few days, Nita has been staying with me. It was really nice having her over! Nita is such a sweetheart. ^-^ It's too bad that she had to go back, but work calls for everyone (for me, tomorrow). I hope that she can come up again before she leaves the country, or at least some time in the future! ^^ Hmmm, aside from that, what have I been doing??

Last Tuesday I started the dayjob again. Year three at this job started in a blur of motion and unreadiness. I spent a lot of time Monday getting ready for Tuesday starting, and even though it took a ton out of me being active after so long being lazy (except for hiking of course), I got a call from Ami Tuesday morning wanting to go apartment hunting after work. I'm always up for that, so off we went! The place that we'd went to before wasn't open for some odd reason, so we headed to check out the million places in Kichijoji that advertise cheap apartments. On the third building we hit a jackpot!! A really appealing apartment (so cheap!!) caught our eye in one display, and we went inside only to find out that that particular apartment was only available for a year, because after that the entire building was going to be demolished!! :O So, wanting a longer-term place than that, we asked for more... and here's where we hit real paydirt!!

Here is a map of where we are in Tokyo. Look for the yellw&red star. <3

We found this huuuuuuuuuuge house, and split between three people, it's less than I'm paying right now. It's also in between Kichijoji and Mitaka, which is exactly what we wanted!! I'm going to be near Inokashira park and the Kichijoji animate and Yuzawaya, Kinokuniya, and even more!! <3 I really, really hope that we get this place. We're going to find out this coming week, I believe, and then on the first we'll be able to move in! ^o^ Wish us luck, because this is going to be such a great move!! Anyways, moving on.. after searching until the wee hours for this place, Ami treated my broke self to vietnamese food. I've only had vietnamese food a few times, but I must say that after this meal, I am a definite fan!! We had a course meal, and OMG. I'm definitely going to go for course meals at more places! I can't even describe the deliciousness that we had. Especially good was the salad. I usually hate salads because I don't like dressing, but whatever was on here tasted like cilantro and lime and was DELICIOUS! It's making my mouth water just thinking about it.. (Here is a picture of the course menu if you're familiar with vietnamese food) This was Ami's dessert, and this was mine. I didn't try hers because it had coffee in it, but omg mine was heaven. It tasted a lot like annin-dofu with some azuki in the middle. Oh, WOW.

So it was back to work the next day, and I was completely exhausted. But Nita arrived in the night to begin the long Golden Week weekend. We went to El Toritos and got coins good for free margaritas!! Yuuuum!! I love free! The next day, Nita went off to AirGear myu remix and I spent the entire day out at the Hawaii festival in Odaiba with Trinity, Erin, and Janet. It was so much fun!! It was a truly awesome day, and the first really warm day that I think we've had. I could have danced. We actually spent most of the day in the game arcades, but late into the evening we watched the polynesian dance show, which was really great. We took pictures with the dancers afterwards and talked to a lot of them too. They were really nice!! Most of them were college students in Hawaii, and reeeeeally good-looking. =D I had a great time!! I would post the picture, but I actually forgot to put the battery back in my camera before I left, so I wasn't able to take any pictures. ;__; Trin took a lot and I took some with her camera too, so I'll post them when I get a copy later on, maybe. ^^ It was a really, really great day in any case!! I didn't get back until after 11 pm.

The next day was my turn to watch AirGear myu~~ During the first half, I thought that it was better than the last one, which was a good sign, but during the second half I started falling asleep. It's true that I was already tired coming into it, but after talking to Nita later, we both agreed that the second half was pretty boring. I did have a great seat, though! The first half of the hall was enclosed by ramps so that the actors could skate around and do tricks. I was seated inside the circle, so that was really awesome. =D The singing and skating were all better this time, so I was happy about that. I loooove the joke where Puck throws a fit because he's the only bad guy in the group that doesn't have his name in the title of a shakespeare book. XD;; The haircutting scene is also hilarious. Akito/Agito's older brother is skeery and not in the appealing way. Kind of like a really trashy version of Ayame from Furuba. CREEPY. I also really liked the scene where Kogarasumaru was talking about all of the girls that would run after them when they became famous. Kazu raced around on the ramps with Ikki chasing him, until Ikki caught up, planted a wet one on his cheek, and left Kazu rolling around hugging himself. (That wasn't the only bl, lol. Romeo kissed Juliet square-on on the lips, yum) Lots of kissing, lol. I also liked the scene where Bacchus were being so awesome and cool by jumping an 80 meter (really 80 cm) high bar with their skates. Ikki and Spitfire showed up all cool-like to best them, but Ikki knocked it down, and Spitfire tripped over it, landed on his butt, and saved himself by continuing that landing into a roll and posing onstage. It was hilarious. XD;; I wish that the second half had lived up to the first half, because it would have been a passably-good show then. I might get the soundtrack sometime though, because I really like the opening song and the haircut song.. I don't see how they'll ever make another one, but if they ever do, I really hope that they include the girl characters. Or even better, only the girls. <3<3

So that was Friday, and on Saturday (Cinco de Mayo!!) after Nita said goodbye, Eda came over to work on some art together and relax a little bit. It was nice to just sit over in my house and afterwards we helped ourselves to the free margarita tokens with Erin and Janet. Yum! Erin, Janet and I walked around Shinjuku for a while after that and made the best discovery EVER. Yodabashi camera has massage chairs on the third floor of one of their buildings!! Sure, they're covered with signs that you can only sit in them if you're planning to buy one, but I definitely plan to buy one so we took advantage of them. HEAVEN. Of course, I won't be able to afford one for many years, but I definitely plan to eventually purchase my own little piece of heaven from Yodobashi camera one day. <3 In the meantime I will continue testing the new models periodically in order to make an informed decision. ^-^

Today is Sunday. It's warm but rainy and I'm going to continue to sit inside and catch up on all of the work that needs to be done in here. Aloha! (OMG I want a permanent account.. anyone willing to loan me $150 next mo??)

Woah, that house looks great, I hope you get it too! I guess it'll be weird for you to have all that space after living in a small apartment for so long, but weird in a nice way lol. Good luck! <3

Wow, that house is way bigger than my own house in Illinois.

I do also like Mitaka, I rent rooms there on vacation frequently (they have places that are cheap rent for a month, that even tourists like myself can rent it).

I'm thinking to post some pictures from there I found on my camera, soon. :) I have a lot of pictures from 井の頭公園。

It's also 子供の日。 Kids at the high school I can see from my office window, had the traditional newspaper folded armor hats on, then I remembered, yes, they have Japanese as a foreign language at that school. Hey, it's the one time a year, that the stereotype 鯉幟 at Japanese restaurants are accurate! It's as if, imagine, American restaurants all had Halloween decorations for a symbol, or something crazy like that...

It's getting warm here too, and humid a bit. Nice outside coffee weather.

That's because it's a house! =D But I bet that the rooms are a lot smaller than what you have, so maybe the square feet is really similar. It's 94.8 sq. meters.

LOL and people bitch about how complicated the NYC subway maps are...the JR got me lost thats for sure.

Would you be able to do photo or video tour of your new place?? because im trying to move to japan and well i need insider help xD
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on May 6th, 2007 04:20 am (UTC)
LOL And that map is just the JR railways. So basically, it's missing 1/2 of the metro and private railways.

Yep, I'm defintiely going to take photo-video sometime before we move in (or the day of). Just as soon as we get the keys, assuming that we get the place!

Good luck with the house! If I decide to work in Melbourne after I graduate I'll probably go and look for a new place myself. My current place is cosy but for long term stay it's a bit small.

And that food looks good ^_^

Also, my family's planning to go to Tokyo for a holiday this December. Are there any places you'd recommend?

I *LOVE* Vietnamese food, and have it very frequently, because San Jose has one of the largest Vietnamese expatriot communities in the world. The best part of it is not only how wonderful, flavorful, fresh, and light the food is, but also how inexpensive it is around here. You can have a lunch of Vietnamese sandwiches or fresh spring rolls for about $2-3, or eat a really nice Vietnamese dinner here for $5-$7. And if you spend $13-15, you can have a really amazing dining experience, assuming you're in the right place and know what to order. Their seafood and fish dishes are amazing.

It sounds to me like your dressing was probably nuoc cham, which is commonly used for salads and as a dipping sauce for both fried rolls and fresh vegetable rolls made with rice paper and/or tapioca flour.

My favorite Vietnamese salad has lotus roots, cilantro, shrimp, and a nuoc cham dressing. You eat it on these big puffy, crunchy yet light shrimp-flavored rice chips.

As for your dessert, I've had it before. It's very good... but your friend's dessert is perhaps even better. The syrup its in is brown primarily because of carmelized sugar, not coffee, though they may add a little coffee to it for flavoring for all I know. It's a kind of flan, and it's absolutely wonderful and not too eggy. Reminds me of a creme bruille with stronger toasted/slightly burnt sugar and caramel tastes to it.

Oh man, I want to eat there....
Luckily, it's definitely not Nuoc cham. There's not any vinegar at all in it. If there was, I wouldn't have been able to eat it.

^_^ Thanks for letting me stay over~! I hope I get a chance to go back, too! I didn't even realize it was Children's Day until I got back.

Agito's brother was creepy, but I think he was appealing to Japanese tastes, cos I think my coworker really liked him. And the colored gender-switch pic looks great colored! girl!Ryoma's hand turned out really well~ and all their expressions ^^

Man, I have been soo tired lately. Packing up so that I can move out of the college apartments and back home is not easy. Not to mention the fact I was helping a friend get all of her stuff to the storage unit also. Oh, and cleaning up the apartment as charges are made if you leave the apartments too dirty. I am just about finished packing; all I have left is the bath and laundry stuffs as well as my games/puzzles, movies, shoes, and some pictures. I also have to take a trip to the storage unit once my parents get here as my car is not sufficient for loading/unloading stuffs.

Man, sounds like you have been having fun. Man, I miss Odaiba. The arcade is fun! I soo miss the Master Taiko Drummer game. It was damn addicting and a good money sucker. Anyway, I am ubber tired and I have tons of stuff to do tomorrow. G'nite. *huggles*
