Marmalade Boy and manga♥
Yesterday, I was in the bookstore and saw.... *heart thumps* Marmalade Boy Perfect Edition!! How am I so behind the times that I never noticed that there was a perfect edition for my number one favorite manga of all time? With *new* redrawn covers that are absolutely gorgeous and  all of the color pages printed in color! I bought all of the ones that they had! Marmalade Boy was one of the first animes that I saw, when I was in High School, and ever since then, even though it's been more than 10 years, nothing has been able to knock it off of it's top peg. <3 It's the epitome of shoujo angsty drama!

This is the story of Miki and Yuu and their strange relationship, all of the twists and turns that it makes. In the beginning, normal girl Miki is shocked when her parents return from a Hawaiian vacation and tell her over dinner that they're going to divorce and switch partners with another couple! That is enough of a shock, to be sure, but then they tell Miki that instead of splitting up the family they're going to live together with the other couple and their son Yuu, who just happens to be Miki's age. Is it instant sibling rivalry or instant affection? Only time will tell~

Marmalade Boy is available in english too, both the manga and the anime. I highly recommend picking it up!! Especially if you want to see/read the most angsty, funny, and dramatic series of all time! ^-^

Is anybody else interested in other shoujo anime/manga that I really like? I can write up some recommendations when I have a chance. =^-^=

How much was each volume? :3 I've been thinking about reading Marmalade Boy forever, but never got around to it.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 18th, 2007 03:36 am (UTC)
933 yen each. ^^ It's a little expensive, but it's definitely worth it! And they're a lot bigger than the normal volumes. ^^

Ouch, that's what I figured. XD; God, I'm going to spend so much money on manga in this country (I want to pick up the new volumes of Rurouni Kenshin that have been coming out for a while - I just don't know if I can justify forking out that much money xx;). I'll have to go check them out at the store and see if I would be interested~

Wai! Marmalade Boy has been a long time favorite myself and I wasn't aware of this 'perfect edition' WHOA. The covers look awesome, I see Meiko, is Miwa on one of these covers by any chance. While the english dub box sets are costly, I do have to say that the dub is kinda, DECENT. They really kept true to the series!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 18th, 2007 04:39 am (UTC)
I saw some clips of a "dub" on Youtube.. Is it the same dub that Tokyopop released? I would have liked it except they kept calling Miki "Mickey" which is completely wrong. I can't imagine that an official dub could pronounce the character's name so wrongly...

No Miwa on any of the covers, just Miki, Meiko, Yuu, and Ginta. ;__; Ginta and Yuu's two-shot cover looks AWESOME though. <3

Lol I am so jealous! I would love a Perfect Edition of Marmalade Boy!!! But I know all the bookstores here will be ridiculious in pricing T_T

Has Mayu Shinjo come out with any like recent books or she just mainly old school?

You would love Kaiken Phrase a.k.a Sensual Phrase...its GODLY greatness, they just released the english very last volume!!!
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 18th, 2007 04:56 am (UTC)
I actually really liked Kaikan Phrase for the first few books. But then it became TOO Mary-sue-ish. I don't mind it up to a point, but after a while most of the things that Sakuya would do for Aine were kind of unbelievable. (too bad too) I read up through volume 8 or 9 though. ^^ One day I'd lke to finish it!

Actually, she's very active right now! ^^ Her newest series are Love Celeb (jiust finished I think), Ai wo Utau yori Ore ni Oborero (currently going), and SEX=LOVEsquared (ongoing). I've read some of both and they're pretty good. ^^

You should check out her website! There's a japanese and an english section, even though the english section isn't updated much. But there is both a japanese blog (current) and an english blog (seems to have stopped a year ago) and pictures.. She's so cute! ^^

Marmalade Boy is one of my all time favourites... it had excellent music/theme songs. I've got the whole translated mangas and the dvd box sets of the anime. I ended spending too much money for the dvd box sets... sigh. Each box set was around $150Cdn. Than when I attended a anime con in Toronto a few months later... they were selling the box sets for $50Cdn. I should of waited ... thereby save myself lots of $$$. But I wanted the anime when it FINALLY got released in North America. I had gone to my favourite comic book shop and placed the series on order.... when the next box set gets released... I got one put aside for me.

Here is a question. The author of MB had orinally stated that she intended that Miki and Yuu to be real siblings and therefore couldn't be together but instead went with scenario that they weren't siblings and could be together. Which way do you prefer for the characters to have turned out? I prefer the happy ending where they aren't siblings.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on February 18th, 2007 06:09 am (UTC)
I prefer the happy ending too. =^_^=

Woah~ you´re right the covers are really gorgeous ! ^-^
I loved the Marmalade Boy anime a LOOOOOT !!!! I cried so much XDDDD ... the manga was not bad, but I prefer the anime ^^

MB is also one of my all time favourites. One of the best scenes was the one where they go camping, the one in the woods (near a waterfall?). I was crying so hard there! I must admit that I liked the anime more though since they had more time to tell the story :)

I read the first few volumes since my friend bought them, but never got around to finish the series --> it's quite long? Though the Perfect Edition is rather tempting, maybe I will pick up a few volumes when I'm in Japan this summer ^_^

Recommendations would be nice, I just finished several series and is looking for new series to start ^_^

thank you for the pics. :3 Marmalade Boy is absolutely one of the most ADORABLE mangas ever, and I love Yoshizumi Wataru. (I know she doesn't publish in Ribon anymore... but have you read any of her new stuff? I think they're either in Chorus or You...) The picture of Miki on vol. 2 is so pretty! I'm going to have to find a way to get my hands on them now~~ xD;

Where did you find it? from Emily
OMG!!!!!! Awesome! Marmalade Boy is my favorite manga/anime! Where did you find those? Are they at Borders and Barns and Noble? I checked their websites and couldn't find it.
Hi-chan (火ちゃん)hinoai on November 16th, 2007 11:20 pm (UTC)
Re: Where did you find it? from Emily
Well, I live in Japan, so I bought it here at the Shinjuku Kinokuniya. You might be able to find it in an import book store in America, or have them order it for you. But it's only available in Japanese.
