So, in the beginning of December when Thuy was caught up in the hype and excitement of the new Star Wars movie, she had what sounded like an insane idea to purchase a well-made lightsaber. I'm more of a Trekkie, and Star Wars is something that I also grew up watching, but it doesn't mean the same things to me. It didn't shape who I am in the way that Star Trek did. I wouldn't be the same person without it. Anyways, I digress. Savariben!

She ended up ordering two lightsabers from a company called Ultrasabers, and her brother ordered two as well (one for his girlfriend and one for himself. Thuy's were both for her, uh...).

Honestly? I thought that it was kind of dumb to pay three hundred dollars for a lightsaber, especially when you weren't a big fan or anything (Which she and I are not. Now, a Batleth on the other hand... I had been eyeing one for a while, but the price and the leather grip was keeping me from buying it. Why leather? I doubt that they even have cows on Klingon!). However, when the sabers came in a few weeks later, both me and Justin put in orders later that same night! I have an orange one for sparring now, and a purple one because, purple. I should have made the sparring one purple, but I didn't know that I would use it for anything but photos at the time.

Time passed, and near the end of the month, Thuy found out that a Parkour gym down by the waterfront was starting Lightsaber classes in January. Uhh.. lame or cool? I wasn't sure.

But, I mean, I'd sign up for Vulcan language lessons in a heartbeat, so why not? I signed up with Justin and Thuy. I hardly ever go along with the flow, but I am really glad that I did!

I am now a proud member of Hawaii Saber Academy.

And I am eating my words, and some of my dignity, but it is SO MUCH FUN THAT I DON'T CARE! Omg, I am letting my inner child out, and I could not be having more fun! I really wish that there was a Star Trek equivalent, but Trek is fundamentally about peace and acceptance, so that might not roll over so well.. I don't know. Hmm..

Yeah, anyways, I am eating my words. I love the class so freaking much that I just can't help but practice outside every night, and sometimes during the day. It's mostly just learning poses and sequences right now, but the theatrics? They are so beautiful, and that glowing-light aesthetic is right up my alley! <3 <3 <3

I only brought my phone with me, so the pictures that I took aren't as high-quality as I'd otherwise like, but I might try some long exposures another time. In the meantime, have this, and then look up to see if there are any classes in your area! Click here to read the rest on my blog!

On Sunday, I went out with my girlfriend, roommate, and a few other friends to Waimea Bay on the North Shore.

Why? To go bouldering!

The gym down my street from our apartment is a bouldering gym, and Justin (le roommate) is a huge fan so Thuy started going, and then I started going, and we made more friends who also go (including James, who was a friend of mine during college but just moved to Honolulu too!). So, a few of us decided that we needed a getaway and went to try out doing this whole climbing thing outside!

I mostly worked on my photography skills, because I'm not a very strong climber, but I had a great time anyways! It's winter, so it's warm but not hot, and the waves were so strong that swimming wasn't allowed! Not that that stopped a lot of people.

Want to see the photos that I took? Well, click here to read it on my blog: CLICK HERE!

** This is me trying to crosspost and see what works out best to engage everyone... Feel free to comment here or there, or wherever else! You can login with your lj username and password on there, or at least I think so.

Ahh, so complicated! Eep!

You know that comic that I've been working on FOREVER? Well, I'm finally taking the leap. I'm scared to death, but I'm going to make the leap without a safety net, really. Harness, pshhh, who needs it?

When things are hard, fall back on what you love. I found that although I'm lacking in sleep, I'm actually feeling a LOT better, if that makes any sense. Or, I could be delirious. I love drawing. Obviously, I need sleep. I'll go do that (and please order the book while I'm sleeping).

Please go order a copy RIGHT NOW!

There are three options for the comic. You'll be getting the same story, same content, but either ebook or physical copy (or both), plus little extras that I've been dying to make. Here are the options:

1) Ebook only
2) Ebook and physical copy (perfect bound)
3) Commemorative edition (physical book, ebook, signed original postcard, and collectible acrylic charm. The first 100 copies also get a special present!)

I'll base the printing quantity on how many orders I get. Whether I continue the comic will also depend on how many orders I get, so please help me spread the word! I promise you won't be disappointed! For more details, read the link (and don't forget to order right now!).

I'm really exhausted, because I've been up for nearly two days straight with only three hours sleep, I will be updating regularly on my progress, so buy copies, share this post, and stay tuned!!

Again, PLEASE order and keep this dream alive! http://jamieism.storenvy.com/products/13801038-denkiki-issue-1-preorder

Well, it's up in any case!!!

* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

So, I can't believe that I'm finally here. I can't say what this book means to me. I can't say how much work, sweat, blood (yes!), and tears has gone into making this book. It's a combination of support from everyone, huge gobs of work for me, and way, way less sleep than is healthy!

Please share this post, go buy a book, and get everyone you know to buy one, too! I'm counting on you! =^___^=

Buying one supports me, supports my art, supports my future plans of beginning a manga magazine some day, and means that you either think that what I wrote is cool, or love me.

Feel free to buy more than one!

If I somehow hit my goal of 1,000 copies, then I will find a way to publish my manga, Denkiki, online, for FREE. Gratis! There are several models that I'm looking at, but the basics are that if you don't want to, you don't have to pay. You can read, or preview, or anything that you want!

(Plus, if I sell enough preorders quickly enough, I can get out of here and into a new place where I can work in peace. If you don't know what's been happening, check out my other blog.)

I can't express what this means to me that I not only have been able to get this book (almost-- it's in it's final edit and design stage now) out, but that I have had so many of you guys express interest and stand by me. I had no idea how much work it was going to be. None at all!

Here's the final stretch, and I need your preorders!

▶ This is a limited-time preorder. Book release will be June 15, 2014, although preorders may ship earlier.
▶ Deluxe softcover book
▶ 5.25 x 8"
▶ ~250 pages
▶ full color cover, b&w interior
▶ illustrations, photos, and mini comics included!
▶ Free postcard with original art
▶ Each book will be signed with a short personalized message (if desired)
▶ E-book included (delivery on release day)

I'm waiting for your orders, comments, and questions!!
And just to let you know, I will return on Monday for daily blog posts-- until then, I will be monitoring orders and comments, but taking a little bit of a breather! I can't say how much I need it! I haven't taken a day off since the beginning of the year! See you in my comment box and mailbox! ^O^

A few days ago, my internet went out! Awful timing, since I had to leave in the morning to see Tokyo Girls Collection up in Saitama! (for work) I live REALLY far from the arena (about 2 hours by train), so I stayed over at a friend's house who lives much closer. It was my first time staying with her (usually the other way around! LOL, or it used to be!), and the first time I've stayed over at a friend's in ages! Fun!! I think my immune system may have finally taken a hit, though, because my throat is hurting a little bit today. It makes sense, since there were 30,000 girls at that event! Surely at least one of them had a cold! O.O!

So...... anyways, I just wanted to update everyone. I picked the winner of the drawing and notified him/her! =^-^= Thank you so much to everyone that donated, whether a lot or a little! I'm still a ways away from what I need, so I'm considering what I can do... a lot of people mentioned commissions, and I thought that I'd never do them... but I think I will have to.... So, I'll take some time during this week to get that ready, I guess!! Unless I find a safe and legal way to sell my body, lol. =3 (j/k)

I know a lot of people aren't going to be reading this far without pictures, so I'll bold so that it stands out :)

I need your suggestions for post topics for my new blog!

□ Right now, I'm aiming to start my new blog on September 15th, the seventh anniversary of me leaving for Japan! Can you believe that it's been 7 years?! (I can't!)
□ Your suggestions here are amazing!! I am adding all of them into the to-do list for the new picture-filled blog!

Any more...? Please let me know what you want to see!! =^-^=

Lately, I've been trying to get my dreams into motion, including-but-not-limited-to:

* 4-page short manga. It's just for fun/practice. The story is just a short episode from working with Konomi-sensei. I'll post it online when I'm done. ^^
* Real manga for Ribon
* How-to-be-a-mangaka posts
* Website/blog! It may be small at first, but it's going to be really cool in the end, I think!!
* Japanese study (This takes up a lot of time!)

I was also in a commercial shoot recently.. more about that later on, as soon as it comes out! I'm not sure if it's going to be on tv or just on the internet or what. We'll see. It seems to be in processing right now. Well, I just did it to help out a friend, so it wasn't paid or anything, but it was definitely a learning experience! I'll talk about that all after it's out! (I'm not allowed to now)

I kinda want to make a Zombies-in-Tokyo mini movie or something..... anyone game? Just offhand, I'm thinking little commercial-like videos to put on Youtube, or something like that.. Whatcha think? Anyone want to work on this? (Actors/scriptwriters/cameramen/etc?) Let me know! Maybe a vampire story too......? Of course, this is all just an idea at this point..

So, starting after this week, I'm going to be launching my new blog/website and see where it goes!!

So, I would really like everyone's input who reads this..
What kinds of posts do you want to see from me?
Obviously they'll have as many pictures as possible, and obviously they'll be about Japan/Tokyo, but I want to write things that you guys want to read! =^^= Please tell me! Onegaishimasu!

In other news, there is just one day left to help me reach my tiny little dream! =^-^= Please, please, please help if you are so inclined! I'd really appreciate anything, and I've decided to send at least a little something to everyone, winner of the drawing or not! *^^*

Without any further ado...

♪Happy Birthday♪
to meeeeeeeee! =^-^=

It's super-hot out these days.. hot enough to fry karaage.. or if you found a hole in the cement, I think that you could make Takoyaki! Geeeeeeeeeeeh.... I've been really, really insanely focusing on my new manga. I'm going to bring this one into Shueisha when it's finished... and I have really high hopes! But only time will tell!! (The story so far has gotten a really good reaction)

But I have a confession.... remember how I used to post tons of pictures, all of the time? Well, I talked about it before, but my old camera finally bit the dust and I've been saving up for a new, professional one. My salary is really low, but I've been scrimping and saving, eating just the basics, all to make my first pro camera happen! But every time I manage to save even the slightest, something huge comes up suddenly. Some emergency. So back to zero I go.

So.... I decided the only way to do it is to make one huge go at it, and ask for help! Since it's my birthday this month, and I want to make things happen, for people willing to help me out, I'm going to give one, randomly-selected person, one of my original artworks (a super-rare thing! I've never, ever given an original art piece to someone outside of birthday/family). One day, you might be able to sell it for quite a bit, you never know!

Details here! I need all the help possible, so please please help out!Collapse )

Eveni f you can't/don't donate, I really appreciate spreading the link around if you can! And of course, birthday wishes!! Lots and lots of birthday wishes!! =^-^= (This year, I hope my dreams come true and I publish my own manga! I promise, it will be better and more awesome than even Tenipuri! ^.~ (sorry Sensei!))

Just over two days until my birthday, and I want to say:

Whomever thought up this idea is a genius ♥

Milk tea and milk coffee??!! Geeeeenius, I say. :)

I'm going to make a version of it at home with less sugar and more milk :3!

I will return with more interesting posts soon, I just wanted to update with something! =^-^= Anyone who wants to send me birthday wishes, wait until my birthday? :) :) :) It's just that waking up to lots of messages from you guys would really be a great start to hopefully a great day. =^-^=

Thank you to Katsu Aki-sensei (Futari Ecchi) and Akamatsu Ken (Love Hina, Negima) for the early birthday presents! =^-^=

I love my birthday ♥ I always love celebrating my birthday too!! It's the only day of the whole year that I can legitimately say, "today is MY day. I deserve to be happy for this day!" I try my best to always be happy on my birthday too! No matter what kind of crap happens. :)

I kinda want to do something on my blog, too, but I don't know what to do... Any ideas? I really have no idea...I thought momentarily about asking for presents, but really, the only thing that I want is contributions toward finally getting a new camera.... maybe if people think it's a good idea, I'll put a paypal link up? But only if people say so.. otherwise, I will continue to save up little by little and hopefully one day I'll get one! (I haven't mentioned it for a while, but my digicam broke a while back, that's why I don't post many pictures anymore... I am going to get a pro camera next time, but a lot of things have popped up and every time I get a tiny amount of money saved up- I had more than half at one point- something comes up unexpectedly!). Oh well.... one day I will for sure!!
